Thought I would drop you a note about our stay at Mamacitas July 25-Aug 1. My daughter and I had a really great time. What we loved especially about your house (besides the great views and relaxing ranchero) was living for a week in the heart of a neighborhood. Even though we weren't home enough to really get to know the neighbors, it was nice to just say hello and exchange a few words, to interact with the children, and I don't think we would have been able to get a feel for how most Nicaraguans live and play without wandering through the barrio several times a day. A very different experience from staying in hostel or hotel somewhere. Harry was just great and couldn't have been more helpful, even taking us grocery shopping at the new supermarket the first day (we decided not to rent a car). That first day, not knowing how difficult it might be to make arrangements to do what we wanted to do (I have some mild disabilities that I was anxious about), just knowing we could call Harry for questions and assistance provided great peace of mind. He even loaned us a cell phone. Just a great guy.
A recommendation for future renters: We got to know the great folks at Casa de Oro hostel and tour services in downtown SJdS. Wonderful people who among other things have made a genuine commitment to support efforts to preserve the turtles at Las Flores, and to provide tours in an ecologically responsible way. It's owned by Nicaraguans, and became the center of our planning and excursions while there. In addition to turtle watching, they arrange for responsible taxi service (much cheaper than renting a car, and easier on old bones than the buses) beach shuttles, horseback rides, surfing excursions, and just about anything you want to do from SJdS. |

This pad is a dream come true for me. I can walk to town to the bars, beach and restaurant but still get away from the noise and gringos when I want to be in real Nicaragua. The style is super unique and the 2nd story is an oasis of good times. The purple sheets are super soft and I slept like a baby under the fan. I'll be back!

I had the honour of staying at this great little San Juan Del Sur get-away for what I must say was the loveliest, most beautiful 2.5 weeks I have experienced. It is truly a surfers dream cabin, tucked away in the lush hillside with a spectacular ocean view. The time, energy and hard work that was dedicated to this little dream project will guarantee that your stay will be top notch! I hope to get back there again in the near future myself!
