Modern comfort and rustic charm nestled in a peaceful and relentlessly picturesque landscape: these qualities moved Les Bouyssieres to the top of our list of favorite European rentals. For the three of us (one adult couple and one independent adult) who rented Les Bouyssieres this last September, our week long stay turned out to be the highlight of a trip that also included Paris, Vezelay, and Venice.
The kind owners of Les Bouyssieres, who restored a lot of the cottage themselves, obviously gave a great deal of thought to the comfort and convenience of their guests. The cottage has a spacious, modern and beautifully finished kitchen, two and one-half bathrooms (also modern and well-finished), a comfortably furnished living room, a utility room with a washing machine, and wireless Internet connectivity throughout the house. But all of this comfort is offered without aesthetic compromises or loss of an indigenous country-living feel. The generously sized bedrooms, tucked comfortably into the attic of the cottage and with decoratively exposed beams, are particularly charming. And the exterior of the house, its one outbuilding and extensive grounds are impeccably maintained in a manner appropriate to the region.
Creysse, the town where Les Bouyssieres is located, may be difficult to find on a map, but it offers many delights worth exploring (as well as a good restaurant). And nearby Martel has an extensive and beautiful medieval section as well as stores of all kinds, and very good restaurants. While Les Bouyssieres and its immediate environs are delightful in and of themselves to spend time in, the cottage also proved a convenient home base for day excursions to the Romanesque, gothic and renaissance splendors of Souillac, Sarlat, Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, Conques, Moissac and Rocamadour.
We would highly recommend Les Bouyssieres to others--and are indeed already ourselves longing for a return visit. |
