We had a very nice experience and it gave my family room to spread out as well as access to a lovely pool area (with a separate pool for the grownups!)for just a little more than the price of a hotel room. | We stayed at Spence's condo for a week in mid-August 2008. The condo is beautiful and was fully equipped with everything we needed, including our own private hot tub!! The resort was very nice and we had a great meal at the Grille. Had some great walks and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I'd highly recommend this place as the location is very central to everything yet you are away from all the tourist activity. |

| WOW! I will never stay in a hotel again. Powhatan Plantation was so friendly we could of stayed there playing in the pool everyday. Our condo was so nice and Spence was so helpful. Just completed a wonderful week at Powhatan in Willimasburg. This is our second year at this resort...and second year booking with Spence. Once again...absolutely flawless transaction and Spence's service is second to none. For those who have never visited this property...I would highly recommend it. It's in a great location...very family friendly...and the amenities are all top notch. Definitely five stars for both Spence and the Powhatan Plantation!!!

Spence upgraded us to a deluxe unit and it had every upgrade imaginable; plasma TV, granite counters, gorgeous decorating, jacuzzi tub in the master, we were very pleased and Spence is a great guy to rent from. He e mails you back right away and is very nice to speak with. All in all, this was a great condo and I would definately recommend it. |

| I found Spence to be professional, straightforward and very accommodating. I would be quick to do business with him in the future. We stayed in a 4 BDRM LockOff at Greensprings Plantation and had a wonderful time. They have a nice variety of amenities, but the grounds and the building we stayed in need general maintenance. The indoor pool has been drained due to a leak. The unit we stayed in was clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. Williamsburg is a wonderful town....don't miss it! Spence, THANK YOU!! |

We stayed for a 14-21 July in a 4 bdr. Lock off at Greensprings Plantation. It was wonderful, we were in unit 99E &F, which was just across from the pool. The condos were lovely, and the master bathtubs were huge. It was nearby to everything.
We would definitely work with Spence again in the future. |

There were 2 large flat screen TVs--one in the living room and one in the bedroom. There was a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. There were at least 2 pools and several hottubs. The resort and our condo was beautiful. We would definitely rent from Spence again. |

Spence was extremely helpful in getting us the units and dates that we needed. I was also skeptical about an internet transaction, but it could not have gone smoother. Our family was very comfortable in the condos and we could not have gotten as much space for the money in any hotel. Living in Williamsburg, I can attest that Powhatan Plantation is in a great location, very conveniently located near multiple attractions, including the Colonial area and Busch Gardens. We will definitely turn to Spence for future vacation rentals. |

My family stayed in unit 178B at Powhatan Plantation and enjoyed our time there. The unit was not refurbished, but was clean and had all of the basics that you would want for a timeshare. The resort itself was nice and had mature landscaping. There were plenty of things to do and the resort location was near shopping and all of the major attractions.
I rented this unit from Spence Witten and felt like I got a good value. It was an easy transaction and he even requested some specifics for me as he reserved the unit. |

| Being in the legal profession and having knowledge of internet scams, I was a little nervous about setting up a family vacation (teens, grandparents, parents) over the internet with an individual instead of directly with the resort. I bombarded Spence with question after question. He answered them all patiently, quickly and completely. I am pleased to advise you the Spence is honest, ethical and economical to deal with. Although there is some negative info about Powhatan Plantation on the internet - it is undeserved. The staff was friendly and helpful, the grounds are absolutely beautiful, the hot tub was tons of fun and the unit was clean and roomy. We spent a week there and had a great time. We hope to return next year and would definitely set it up with Spence. Reserve with confidence! |

I recently rented a week at The Sunterra Resort Villas de Santa Fe from Spence. What a great place with super staff. Renting from Spence consisted of a couple of emails and it was a done deal. Nothing could have been easier. I will definately be contacting Spence again for future trips. The fees for similiar rentals were more than twice the amount that he charged.

We had a great time the week of April 16th at Powhatan Plantation. Powhatan is a beautiful place. Spence delivered as promised and we would gladly do business with him again.
The accommodations were as advertised and we felt quite at home. We even got to use the facilities which include two very large pools; one a lap pool which was great for my kids who are on swim teams.
The resort was very close to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and of course the Prime Outlets where there are some great shopping opportunities.
Despite doing lots of business over the Internet, I still had trepidations about reserving a vacation spot with persons unknown. But quick responses to my email questions from Spence and confirming my reservations with Powhatan put all my fears at ease.
We had a fantastic time and did not want to leave. |

internet whom I had never met, but
as it turned out, all dealings with
Spence were professional, and
accommodations were as promised.
I would stay at Powhatan Plantation
again and work through Spence.
A few appealing details about
Powhatan Plantation that I didn’t see
in their advertising. First, there is
plenty of nearby grocery shopping,
including two reasonably priced
Food Lions, so you don’t need to
bring your own groceries to stock up
the refrigerator and cabinets in the
condo kitchen.
Second, Powhatan Plantation offers
a computer room with two computers
and internet access 24 hours a day
for all guests. This was helpful for
me because e-mails don’t stop
coming when one is on vacation.
Third, the front desk has plenty of
information on nearby attractions,
such as written directions and
discounted tickets.
We did not use any of the amenities
at Powhatan Plantation (restaurant,
pool, sports facilities, etc.) because
our week in Williamsburg was filled
with trips to Colonial Williamsburg,
Jamestown Settlement, Yorktown
Victory Center, and other historic
sites—all of which were great by the
way. Thus, I can’t comment on these
aspects of Powhatan Plantation.
Again, I would stay at Powhatan
Plantation during a future vacation,
and I would arrange the
accommodations through Spence.

We Started out searching the internet for accomadations, becuase our sister who lives in the Chesapeake area has "Cats" in the house that affect my Wife's allergies. We found this great rental on this sight and decided to persue. My only dialogue with Mr. Witten was through e-mail, but he also kindly offered his phone number for additional help. We paid for our booking first, then he secured the accomadations for us in a 2 bed/2bath unit after not having one available at first. After processing this over about 24 hours , we were set to begin what turned out to be a rewarding vacation with our two boys.
The units are nice, with many of them now being re-furbished, the indoor pool was closed for renovation, but there was plenty of things to do, in and around Williamsburg. It's nice to have a place like this to call home base as we visited many of the sights around the pininsula.
The check-in and out process was quick and efficient, and Sunterra offers a presentation that will get you some attraction tickets if you sit through it(about 1 1/2 Hours), no obligation to go and no obligation to buy anything.
We will look to Great rentals again to book a vacation, especially one where you dont have to make a hotel room your accomdations. |

Spent 2 weeks at Powhatan August 2004 and it was just great. I was a bit anxious about sending all the cost in advance from the UK to US but it was fine. Spence is a genuine, straight up guy and dealt with any queries quickly and efficently.
The resort is in a beautiful setting, some of the apartments over look the lake and are spread out in blocks of 5. They are spacious, clean and well appointed. There were a few signs of wear and tear (bleach stains on carpets for example) but these were minor. The hut tub filtration system motor hums a bit at night(you can't switch it off) but unless you are a very light sleeper it shouldn't be a problem.
The resort complex is kept immaculately tidy. The indoor pool was closed for renovation but is opening next year again. There are two outdoor pool (one for over 18's only which was a good idea). I didn't try either of the restaurants so cannot comment.
Overall I would strongly recommend Powhatan as a place to stay. It's close to all the attractions and is a high quality place to stay. |

| We had stayed at Powhatan Plantation in Williamsburg and knew it was great, so we decided to hold our family reunion there (20 people). Spence made all the arrangements, sent our reservations immediately upon payment, and got us all reasonably close together. We had one glitch when some family members couldn't come at the last minute, leaving us with an extra 2-bdrm unit. Spence found another rentor for that one and refunded our money within a week. We gladly recommend him and hope to do business with him again soon. |

| I just got back from my stay at Powhatan Plantation 7/25-31 and was a little dissappointed!! Spence was fine to deal with, the resort wasn't so easy. The first night we were there the garbage disposal in the sink was clogged and overflowed and smelled really bad, we called maintenance and it took them 24 hours to come fix it?? Our kitchen was torn apart for 5 hours while they tried to fix it, so we couldn't use our kitchen. We had no sheets or blankets for the sofa bed, called the first night for that and didn't get anything until the next late afternoon for that. The dryer did not work, we were told to fill out a request to have someone come fix it, never got fixed. The indoor pool was closed, and of course we had rain every day and kids with nowhere to swim? Our keys wouldn't work, every day we would get them fixed and the next day they wouldn't work? Otherwise the resort was very nice, the accomodations were very nice, I guess we just had a very off week with the resort. |

I was a little anxious about finding a rental property over the internet, but was very pleased with the overall result. Spence was very prompt in replying to our e-mails, and addressed each and every question and concern to our satisfaction. The unit was very spacious, clean and comfortable, and the resort itself was wonderful! Plenty of activities for the entire family, and peaceful and quiet too. With Spence's help, the resort accommodated our request to be near my brother's family by placing us in the lock-out unit directly above his. It was very convenient, the kids had a ball, and we got to share the hot-tub! Spence also acquired discount tickets for us to Busch Gardens and Water Country USA, both of which were great parks, and very accessible to the resort. We also visited Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown Settlement, the Williamsburg Winerey, and the Haunted Dinner Theatre. A memorable vacation for all....thanks again Spence! |

We rented a two-bedroom unit through Spence at Powhatan Plantation. After reading some of the on-line comments we were a little concerned about what we would find. We appreciated all of the comments and found most of them to be accurate. They prepared us for what we would find there.
The check-in was long (about 45 min) because they make you wait for your keys for no apparent reason. Nobody tried to sell us a timeshare. We unplugged the phone in the unit and used our cellphone for all calls. The condo was roomy and reasonably clean, with the exception of stained carpeting and cigarette burns on the bathroom floors. Our kids really enjoyed the indoor pool and the miniature golf. My wife liked the Manor House. I enjoyed the hot tub. All in all it was a very good deal for the price and we would stay there again. |

The unit(s) were clean and in good condition. We found the accomodations very suitable for our family.
There were a few mechanical problems.
* the hot tub didn't work at first
* the screen doors for both levels were bent
* I couldn't get one sliding door unlocked
* the mini blinds in one bedroom were damaged
Maintenance fixed the hot tub promptly after I reported it. The other items didn't really affect us, but I did report them so that they can be fixed.
We were busy touring historical sites, so we didn't take advantage of Powhatan's amenities other than the playground. But the condos served as a good base for visiting the area.
Working with Spence was great. I will definitely contact him in the future. |

I can tell you we were very pleased with our transactions with you. You were wonderful, pleasant, efficient and had speedy responses. The unit itself was spacious but somewhat rundown and not well maintained. Many things needed repair and the staff was not responsive to requests. For example, it took them four days to get us pool towels because they said they were out of stock. Our dryer did not work and they told us to pull it out and unhook the pipe to see if the clothes would dry then since the pipes are not properly installed. Overall we had a great experience, despite the run down property. We would not
hesitate to rent from you again. |

| We rented a two bedroom and were very pleased with the accommodations! They were roomy and comfortable. We were close to the historical district, Busch Gardens and a short drive to Virgina Beach. We will do it again sometime! |

Great rental. The property was exactly what we anticipated and dealing with Spence went very smoothly.
It's always a little unnerving setting off on a long journey hoping the guy you sent money too was legit. Well he (Spence) was, the resort check in was very smooth and we had a great week. |

Weekly checkins for most guests are either FR/SA/SU so the 4 O'clock hour can be very busy on those days, the resort is working to speed things up and have assessed owners extra in 02, 03, and 04 to speed replacement of furnishings!
