We wanted and got some peace and quiet. We have enjoyed the big skies all around and the views of the water. In the evenings we drove out along Lola Rd. to watch the sunset. Our 2 1/2 year old son had a wonderful time playing on the beach by the ferry. The people are very friendly around here. Jonathon took some video footage of Troy Goodwin talking about life on Cedar Island. Troy is the man who mends and makes fish nets. you can see him out in front of his house wearing a white head scarf under his hat. We enjoyed reading the CI history books and looking at all the interesting shells and pictures that you have. As many of your other guests have remarked, the house is bright and clean with a great view! Thanks for having guests to stay! Mariann, Jonathon, & Ezra ***We would definitely recommend Cedar Sunrise and hope all of your guests have as restful a time as we had!***

I can't believe we will already have to leave in the morning! We have had such a wonderful time! We could not have picked a more relaxing, yet adventurous trip. The first day we helped some kite boarders (on the beach by the ferry dock) get their sails up - how awesome! The open room and beautiful decor of the cottage has been so comforting and very enjoyable. Everyone around here is so friendly and we even made friends with one of the ferry captains who also owns the Variety Store. We really appreciate you opening your wonderful home to us and we plan to be back (and bring the kids next time) sooner than later.

My wife and I first came thru Cedar Island on our honeymoon is 1970. This is the first time we have lingered on CI and have loved our all too brief four nites here. Your cottage is appealing and geatly enhanced by it's setting and tasteful interior. It is bright and cheerful and shows imaginative decorating. My wife didn't know quite what to expect before she arrived and was pleased. Thank you for sharing this beautiful spot with us. We want to come back!

We had so much fun this week. We can't believe how many things there are to see and do around here. We went to Beaufort, Morehead City, Atlantic Beach, Ocracoke, canoing, fishing, and loved the beach by the ferry dock. The children played there forever and we never worried because it was so shallow. The Grimms.
This was our second trip to Cedar Sunrise and Cedar Island. We simply had to return to this little piece of paradise. Thank you for sharing this little hide-away with us! The Tatros.

Thank you for allowing us to vacation in your lovely island home. We loved everything about it. Your home is sooo comfy with terrific views of the sunrise and water. We kayaked almost every day. While paddling we saw a sea turtle and the horses on the island across the bay!! We clammed, swam, and searched for treasures along the shore. Just hanging out at Cedar Sunrise was the best. Thank you again, and we would love to come back again!!

We had a great week at Cedar Sunrise! It was the right place to kick off our summer and settle into suummer mode. The place is cute and relaxing - we love the water temps and jumping waves on the Outer Banks. Have a great Summer! Thanks.

Missy, We had an unbelievable time.Yes the weather was perfect.Your place is Unbelievable.I didn't want to leave.I just love the way you have it decorated, and the sunrises,OH MY GOSH.I have a new lens i just bought for my 35 mm cam(i like this better than digital)and i got the best pictures in the mornings.I'll have to send you some. Our 5 yr old daughter just loved the place. I think her fav was the water at the dock, and the little beach area. When we go out of town she is the first to say i'm ready to go home, she's just a homebody i guess, but she never once said it at your place.Jason and i could't believe it.I know i'm rambling Missy but the last thing i've gotta say is the best part was the horseback riding. My daughter and i went on easter sunday,it was Ms. Sherrills day off but she took us out anyway.Nice lady.It was something we will never forget, and i had a little camera i took and Ms. Sherrill took lots of pictures of us riding. We also came up on the wild ponies while we were riding. They were beautiful.Yesterday when My daughter went to school and was showing off all the pictures all the moms were wanting to know where we had been and how they could go.I said CEDAR SUNRISE and gave them the info. Again, thank you so much for a great time.I'm ready to go back.Kelli

We made it! We endured - two moms, four kids, one mini-van...need I say more?? What a comfortable place to come to. You have all the amenities of home and so nicely decorated! We are already planning our trip for next year! Since we found you on the internet we weren't sure what to expect. W were so pleased to arrive at such a welcoming place. Thank you for making your cottage available. Until next time... Heather PS. The local information booklet you put together (and the maps) were very helpful. And the stars here at night and watching the moon rise over the water were spectacular! PPS. My son, Keith (4), wants to live here! Thanks.

Hi, We really enjoyed the wildlife around here. The kids had alot of fun catching hermit crabs, blue crabs, clamming.... We met Mr. Smith, the neighbor, a very nice man. He brought us on his boat to Hog Island and Back Bay to put some nets out. We ate fresh fish because of him. It's a very quiet place and very relaxing. We enjoyed alot to be here. You have a very nice piece of paradise!

When we arrived we were greeted by a beautiful view and a wonderful home. Your Cedar Sunrise Cottage was so welcoming and it had everything we needed for our family. We enjoyed collecting sea shells, riding the boats, and just simply relaxing. We found everyone around here so friendly also. You keep your cottage so beautifully decorated, I hope we left it is as nice condition for you all. I must add that we all enjoyed having fresh seafood too. Thank you for opening and trusting us in your Cedar Sunrise Cottage. It was truly delightful. Grant, Helen, Landon, Hannah, Mirian and Emma

Our week on Cedar Island was wonderful. Your Cedar Sunrise cottage is comfortable and very well organized. Everyone loved your shell collection and nautical decorations. The view of the water is especially enjoyable, and we spent several evenings on the deck over the water watching the pelicans. We took the Calico Jack's Ferry to Cape Lookout several times and found some great shells near the point. We also saw some dolphins, along with some wild horses that were feasting on grass near the shore. We also did some bicycling and were quite impressed with all of the considerate drivers on Cedar Island. Again, we really enjoyed our stay at Cedar Sunrise. We would like to make another visit sometime in September or October!

What a fabulous introduction to NC! We had no bugs, warm breezy days, and restful times. The whole family enjoyed kayaking, swimming, and exploring. We were so pleased when we arrived! Fans going and everything so clean and well presented. Everything that we could have wanted was provided - good music, a perfect family selection of videos. It was obvious that you had put alot into making this a great vacation spot. Thanks.

Hey there! We had a great time at Cedar Sunrise! We came back a day early...not too much early though. The weather turned bad on us this morning, and we hung around until we decided that the rain wouldn't let up. We packed and cleaned...and finally departed at 2:30 this afternoon. Just letting you know. Everything was fantastic! We had such a wonderful time. And the cottage is awesome! When we got to the cottage Friday afternoon...the weather was so nice...we didn't bother with A/C, we just opened windows and let the sea breeze blow through. Finding the Jimmy B. CD was absolutely what I needed! It set the stage. We didn't have much luck with the fishing or crabbing. Hopefully we will be able to take our boat the next time and try some fishing in the channel. The crabs were tiny. But the seagulls didn't have a bit of problem scooping them up all weekend. It's always hard trying to figure out what might entertain a 14 year-old girl...but she had a blast. She stayed busy the entire weekend...and learned quite a lot as well. We left some bait in the freezer, and a couple of bags of crushed ice if anyone can find a use for any of that. Anything else that we left, consider it a gift to the cottage. I know that we intentionally left some TP, paper towels and such. Again, thank you so very much for providing such a wonderful place to get away. We hope to visit Cedar Sunrise again in the fall if we can. Sincerely, Bobby, Leigh & Stephanie Scurry

Hi Missy, It's Sunday night and we are back from our reunion, which was alot of fun. I met family I had never met before. I just wanted to thank you for letting us rent your cottage and for allowing us to stay late today. We left around 3:30. The weather was beautiful and we sat on the deck at the water and relaxed for several hours today. (we did remember to tie the chairs back down!) Your cottage is absolutely adoreable! The way you have it decorated is so pretty, my daughter (she's 24 and got married in March) and I just enjoyed walking around and looking at all the personal touches you have added to it. My only suggestion would be to state somewhere where the circuit box is located. It is a wonderful place to get away to. My husband and I would love to rent it for a week sometime. My daughter wants you to decorate their first home. Anyway, thanks for sharing. We swept, cleaned and hopefully left it as nice as it was when we got there. Enjoy your summer, after talking with you on the phone, and staying at the Cedar Sunrise, I feel I know you. Take Care. We'll be checking the availability calendar for next summer!!!! Thanks again, Brenda Milam

"There are not enough words to describe Cedar Sunrise. I would call it an "Enchanting Treasure". The evenings were mezmerizing with a gorgeous full moon on the rippling waters. And of course-the sunrise's were most gracious to us in their beauty. The oysters and fish were beyond description. Your cottage is not given justice with the pictures on your website. We were pleasantly overwhelmed when we walked in. So spacious and bright and lovely in decor. All of the special touches were beyond the call of duty. You can certainly tell that alot of work and heart went into Cedar Sunrise and that you take pride in your accomplishment. Thank you so much for sharing this joyful cottage. We hope to return and ride the ponies and travel over to the "Portsmouth Village". Until then.... God Bless, Mark & Jerri M.

"Hi. This has been a wonderful week! Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful house. Our son Dave from Chicago and his friend joined us for a few days and they had a great time too. My husband enjoyed the deck so much that not even the rain kept him away from the fishing. We went on the ferry to Ocracoke and then on to Harreras. Enjoyed the firds, the shops, the ice cream, the beach, the boat, everything! My husband is just in love with the place. The cottage is so cheerful. I love the white and blue colors and the cute decorations. So sorry to read all you went through with Isabel. Fortunately Charley didn't come this way and hopefully Ivan will stay away also. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. We certainly would love to be back. Elsa & Dave H.

"Hi. We've had a good stay here these two weeks. Beautiful sunrises, canoeing, kayaking, fishing (caught a couple flounder off Hog Island near the inlet). The kids caught clams and we fixed clam chowder one night. Another day the girls caught crabs and we boiled those up one night. Went to Ocracoke twice and on to Kitty-Hawk once. We got to visit the "Island's Choice" once before it burned down, sad to say. Last weekend we erred on the safe side and stayed in Morehead City while "Charley" blew by. No problems at the cottage when we came back on Sunday. Had fun just hanging out doing jigsaw puzzles and read some of the books on your book shelf. We had a great time, beautiful place, nice decorating, clean and quiet. Thanks for sharing with us, The Holtys

"We came out here to have the opportunity to thoroughly explore Cedar Island and it's surrounding marsh/islands by kayak and we were not disappointed! The weather was perfect, so we were able to kayak ourselves to exhaustion nearly every day. Because I am pregnant, we decided not to make a big trip to North Core Banks, but we explored nearly every nook and cranny of Hog Island (maybe rename Livestock Island to better represent the cureent residents - horses and cows!), Chain Shot I. and Harbor I., which we just circled because they had nesting birds, John Day Ditch to West Bay and Rumley Hammock. Took the trip to Ocracoke I. one day and also to Ft. Macon State Park one day. The doctor told me not to eat seafood, which was the only disappointment of the trip, not stopping by Quality Seafood!! We saw some good birds - nothing unexpected, other that a stranded Ruddy Duck. Watched the boats come in every morning at sunrise. The week was exactly what we'd hoped for - solitude, good kayaking, a chance to see something we can't usually see on a weekend jaunt from our home in Durham. Thanks, Beth F. & Mike R.

"We enjoyed a peaceful month here at Cedar Sunrise. We played around on a boat(rented), learning about fishing and navigating around the shoals. We found some beautiful shells over on the banks and Cape Lookout. We rode our bikes to the ferry. We had friends visit from Vermont and N. Jersey. The shrimp from Quality Seafood was delicious. My son enjoyed catching his own crabs and Jerry relaxed in the shallow water and clammed with his feet! The second week we enjoyed a visit from a juvenile Bald Eagle. He crashed to shore with a sea gull in his talons. We guessed he was stealing his fish. He hung around almost two weeks in spite of the protests from the neighborhood mocking birds, crows, and terns. Hopefully he is on his way to Alaska now. The cottage is very cozy and cute. This trip has been a nostalgic one for me. I grew up on LI Harbor on the sound. As kids we used to clam, catch horseshoe crabs and play in the sound. The smells are great! We fell in love with the cottage, bay and Core Sound. Thanks, Lusy, Jerry, & Liam M.

"We were looking for a nice get-away for part of our Spring Break and we found it! What a wonderful vacation cottage, and very nicely equipped. We loved the view (we had a full moon while we were there). The sunrises are gorgeous! No wonder you named it Cedar Sunrise. It is very serene and laid back here, just what we were looking for. We also had fun taking the Ocracoke ferry. We saw so many dolphins on the beach. We went with Calico Jack (ferry) to Cape Lookout, the boat ride was loads of fun! Found shells there and saw the lighthouse. Our whole stay we ate our fill of fresh seafood (yum). Thank you for the lovely accomodations. We had a great time! Mike and DeeDee A.

"Wonderful Cottage! Wonderful Area! We enjoyed the Variety Store, Sea Level Restaurant, Ocracoke Island, a visit to Hatteras, and Captains Choice Restaurant on Harkers Island - just to mention a few delightful things about the area. The weather was cool (50's) at the beginning of the week and warm (high 60's) by the end of the week. No rain, no bugs, very pleasant weather. Thank you for sharing your cozy cottage. It seems you thought of everything! Sincerely, Colleen K. & Tammy T.
