We had the opportunity to stay several days at Apartment Max in Budapest. After reading on the internet about John Farago and his Budapest Vacation Rentals, I knew his group of apartments sounded special, and this was confirmed the moment we arrived and were greeted in person by John. The apartment has been lovingly and thoughtfully prepared -- from the decor down to the last detail. We felt as though we were staying in a good friend's apartment! It was immaculate, quiet, and outfitted with many amenities, including comfortable furniture, (as well as the bed!) We especially appreciated the washer and dryer. There is a small balcony overlooking a park below, and the nearby small grocery store is very convenient. John has thought of everything -- a shelf of guidebooks, a bottle of wine, gourmet espresso coffee maker with coffee, computer & printer (he even dropped off DVD's for us to use), a cell phone we could take out with us, as well as a VOIP phone for our use (no charge) to call anywhere in the world. This apartment is in a great location -- a few minutes walk from the subway, and not far from the city indoor market. John has prepared LOTS of info (both on the internet as well as in the apartment) to help you find your way around, recommended restaurants, etc. -- and he made reservations, suggesting special arrangements for my husband's birthday at Cafe Bouchon, a most delightful restaurant. John is a terrific host & took great care to make sure our stay was memorable, which it was…. |

Ironically we usually find ourselves returning from vacation feeling like we need to re-wash all of our clothes and exhausted as navigating around a new city, while a fun adventure to be sure, can be quite tiring especially when you always feel a little uncomfortable.
This vacation was different at Apt. Andrei. We felt well taken care of, down to the last detail. Perfect coffees with the fancy coffee maker, dvds on hand, well stocked bathrooms, very clean, comfortable bed, large living area, a beautiful view and area that made us feel like we were not only tourists for a weekend.
The apartment is a few minutes walk to the main areas which was fine for us as it was quite quiet, especially on the weekend. The internet unfortunately did not work during our stay which was disappointing; however, John went to every effort to help us make it work and it was the fault of the service provider we found out in the end.
The home was well laid out and tastefully decorated, the high ceilings were beautiful. It was a nice bonus to be able to wash and dry our clothes.
We would definitely recommend Apartment Andrei as a uniquely affordable and truly comfortable accommodation for those wanting to see the fabulous city of Budapest. |

Great time with friends in Budapest We were two couples who rented both Sarah and Belle for 6 nights in July and had a wonderful time. The apartments are very well located in the centre of Budapest, near to good restaurants and cafes and a short distance (about 300 metres) to the main metro stop through which all three lines pass. The loft bedrooms were a little tight for the tall men in our group, but the apartments are very comfortable especially when we opened the connecting doors. We held a dinner party for eight people after shopping at the Great Market as our friends had rented Apartment Max and Apartment Andrei. We all agreed that the apartments are very well equipped and that John and Jeannie go out of their way to make everyone welcome, both in the apartments and in Budapest. Our highlights of Budapest included the Hop On Hop Off Bus from Elizabeth Square, which gave us a good sense of the city, tour of Parliament House, relaxing in the Szechenyi Baths, roast goose at the Cafe Bouchon and casual dining outdoors at Cafe Gerloczy.

We spent a wonderful week at apartment Max in May, 2009. John had us picked up at the train station and driven straight to the apartment. It is beautiful with high ceilings and every luxury you can imagine, overlooks a park and within walking distance of 75% of all the sights. We loved it, and hated to leave. We highly recommend it to you.

Comment Text: I stayed with my daughter in June at Apartment Max, and we absolutely loved it. It is beautifully renovated and spacious and looks over a lovely children's park. Everything we needed was there - a remodelled kitchen and bathroom with a terrific shower, a computer, a free phone to call the US and a cellphone to carry in Budapest. The apartment is in a great location close to restaurants and shopping and tram lines and metro stations. It was incredibly convenient and so much better than staying in a hotel. It's even nicer than the pictures on the website. The owner has great suggestions for places to eat right in the neighborhood and really conveys enthusiasm for the city and its rather interesting history. He was incredibly helpful with everything we needed. I highly recommend this apartment and especially this owner who is so warm and helpful.

Unbeatable location; everything w/in walking distance. Lots of amenities, including all-important washer & dryer. Thoughtful owners are helpful, accommodating, & easy to deal with; provide starter assortment of food stuffs. Apt. is very good value for the money. One negative is staircase to sleeping loft. It is steep & requires giant steps; perhaps not good for those w/ vertigo or those of a certain age.

Apartment Max was absolutely perfect. Not only is the apartment itself beautiful and in a fantastic location, but the amount of detail that accompanies a stay in the apartment is phenomenal. In addition to setting up a taxi from the airport, it was so nice to have some breakfast items available the next morning following a late night arrival. The 30+ page guide to inside the apartment made staying there feel like home, and the other 30+ page guide to to city of Budapest helped us to maximize the four short days we had in this beautiful city. Beyond the dozen or so travel books, John has made some great little maps that we took with us everywhere to be sure we could always find our way back to Apartment Max. I truly believe our stay in Budapest wouldn't have been so great had we not stayed at this apartment.

Can't say enough good things about apartment Max where we stayed in early august 2008. Great views, fabulous park and playground, proximity to great cafes and restaurants, walking distance to everything...We particularly liked Cafe Alibi (just down the street) which became our favourite afternoon hangout. Small families, couples and singles would all be most comfortable here as the owner has thought of literally everything (hi-speed internet, fabulous coffee machine, washer/drier, guidebooks, etc. etc. etc.). 10 out of 10!

Upon arrival back from our Eastern Europe trip this family of 4 ( adult children 21 & 18 ) all wrote down on separate pieces of paper highlights of the trip. Budapest and more specifically Apartment Max were standout highlights. This is more than just somewhere to stay, Max becomes the destination. From the pastries on the bench upon arrival to the well stocked DVD library,(Schindlers List just after Auchwitz) to the open windows with the birds from "our" park audible as we have lunch, to breakfast on the terrace, to John's recommendations ( and bookings!) for restaurants and sights,to walking distance to market... well I could go on and on. To keep it simple, Apartment Max and John and Jeanne's thought and care make your stay in Apartment Max in Budapest a very special experience.

The week of May 2-9 2008 spent in Aptmt Max was the highlight of our European journey of two months. The charm of old world ambiance coupled with all the "mod cons" for comfortable living was provided in an unbeatably central location. The amazing hospitality and thoughfullness of John Farago in helping with all aspects of prearrangements and guidance to the best that Budapest offered was well beyond the call of duty for any host. We hope to be back and unhesitatingly recommend this wonderful home away for home to all others

I stayed at Apartment Max for a week in May, 2008. I routinely rent apartments for work (which this trip was) and holiday travel, and this property is particularly nice: very nicely decorated and maintained, with attention paid to every detail. The location is particularly wonderful, as it's very close to the Central Market and three different metro stations, but at the same time very quiet. I would stay in this apartment again without question, and will be recommending it to friends (close friends, that is).

My husband and I stayed in Apartment Max from April 20 to April 28, 2008. We could not have asked for a more stunning and welcoming place to stay while in Budapest. The balcony overlooking Karoly Kert was perfect for having our morning coffee and for our evening glass of wine before heading out to dinner. The apartment was gorgeous and had everything available to make our stay easy and relaxing. We went to the Central Market to stocked up on goodies and cooked dinner at home one night. Our leftovers made perfect lunches for two more days. The location is great. We would just set out on foot and get lost in the meandering streets. The subway was close by which made getting to further points of interest easy. I highly recommend Apt. Max to anyone who wants a dynamic place to stay while in Budapest. No hotel could meet or exceed the comforts of this wonderful apartment.

We had a wonderful time in Budapest, in large part to our experience staying in Apartment Max. It borders a delightful neighborhood park in a wonderful, quiet location, central to all the sights. Our stay in Budapest was midway through our trip so we really appreciated the washer and dryer, computer, and the phone with free calls to the US. John is an amazingly accommodating host. My husband and I enthusiastically recommend staying here to anyone looking for a special experience in Budapest - you will not be disappointed!

The apartment we stayed in was wonderful. This was my firt time in Budapest and I could not have asked for a better welcome than the apartment we stayed in. It was very clean and offered everything we could possibly need from coffee in the morning to bandaids for accidental cuts, washer & dryer to eggs and biscuits. The rooms were very spacious, the window looked over a park across the street where children played most mornings. I felt very safe coming and going. It was close to everything and everyone could easily find us. When I return, I would definitely choose this apartment again and again and again. I do not believe that anyone could ever be disappointed with the accommodations. This is the place to be to experience Budapest.

As a very busy owner of a small, medical education business, I travel ALOT all over the world and try to find apartments that have the amenities I need but also allow me to experience something more that the board room or conference center of a chain hotel. When searching for a place for me and my staff to stay in Budapest, I came across two connecting apartments in the heart of town. Although not the luxuray penthouses that I might usually gravitate to, they had a special quality about them that caused me to enquire about them to the owner. From the moment I started interacting with John about his and Jeanne's apartments Sarah and Belle, I was transported wonderfully and amazingly to a country and city i have never visited: WIth the help of John's detailed descriptions and user-friendly Budapest manual, I felt supported in my trip in a manner I had never previously experienced. Not only were the apartments immaculate, sweet and complete, we never once were at a loss of what to do, where to get something we needed and who to contact for those little--and big--situations that are bound to occur on any trip. All four of us had a wonderful time, but we would not have had half the good time we had w/o staying at this very picturesque Budapest apartments. I could sing opera about the entire thing and if you'd like more detailed info about our "no worries" Budapest apartment experience , please feel free to call me....

My 17 year old daughter and I stayed at Apt Max over Thanksgiving 2007 and loved it. The location is great. Central and easy to walk to many of the sites; also, close to public transportation. The apartment itself exudes old world charm but has all the modern conveniences. It is furnished nicely and tastefully. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, including an espresso machine. The owner was very helpful and accommodating, providing tons of information before our trip and leaving very thorough instuctions and information at the apartment. I have already recommended the apt to several friends planning trips to Budapest and would definitely stay here again.
