Our stay with friends at The Bastide was truly a most restful and memorable vacation. The warmth of the welcome from M & M Martin was communicated with each aminity and also through the meticulously detailed descriptions, both of the home and the local region. The charm and the ambience of the setting were more than we had even hoped for when we planned the vacation. We thank the Martins for the trust and the generosity that we felt in staying in their picturesque dwelling.

A fabulous property in the Var region of Provence - remote enough to enjoy a peaceful secluded holiday but also close enough to all the amenities including a great bakery, butchers, general store and lots of local markets and vineyards. The house is beautiful and we really appreciated all the extras our hosts had provided including information about the area and food and wine. La Motte is a wonderful small town with a great co-op selling fabulous rose wine and a very good restaurant -La Pignatelle where we thought the service was exceptional and the food good value and delicious. Highly Recommended property and village.

As we look through our photos taken during the nine days that we spent at the Bastide in October, 2004, we are pleasantly reminded of the feeling of warmth that came from the old farmhouse. Even though it was a bit too cool to swim, it was a joy to just sit by the beautiful swimming pool that shimmered under the clear, blue Provence sky. The kitchen was well equipped for our dinners "at home" that were prepared with foods found at the nearby marché in the town of Le Muy or at the giant Carrefour Market. Not to be missed is the fabulous charcuterie in LaMotte. We had the best steak ever! It was so nice not to be in a town designed for tourists and even though we spent only a short time there, it felt like home. Hopefully, we will be able to return again. |

A wonderful French village experience. Historic stone farmhouse with modern appliances. Garden and patio with views over pool to nextdoor vineyards and nearby coastal mountains. Walks in the hills across the street, to the waterfall and into the old hill village, La Motte. Pastries at the bakery, cafe in the square, walk the village terraced streets and join the local residents at the boules court. Less than one hour to Nice, St. Tropez, or Aix. Shop at Drguignan, Frejus or St. Raphal less than 30 minutes away. Watch the bicycle racers at your rear gate, visit the local sculptor, and fill your wine bottles at the wine coop. Better than you can imagine.

We spent the MOST fantastic 8 days imaginable at the Bastide des Jonquières in La Motte. We were told it was centrally located and we could easily reach almost anywhere in Provance to sight see and enjoy. They were absolutely right; there can be no better location or place to use as a base. The ground are exquisite, the flower beds undescribable. And you can never feel alone because Denise will stay with you always...as long as you give her cat food every day. If you are looking for a most memorable visit to France, this is it. And to top it off your hosts, Jacqueline Martin and Brad Dismukes, couldn't be more accommodating and helpful. We will definitely be back!

We found the Bastide to be sheer heaven-utter charm and total convenience. Not only did it have all the necessities such as washer and dryer and well equipped kitchen, but it also had lovely exteriors such as its garden, patio, its huge swimming pool, its own boule court, and the lovely view out over the neadows. We will always be grateful for the owner's printed advice as to places to see and restaurants to try. Her assessments were right on!

We have been very fortunate to have stayed at the the Bastide on three occasions, and each time we love it more. It is indeed a magical place, like in the middle of a beautiful landscape. The home itself is warm and charming, and provides much pleasure. One can spend time indoors or out, and the pool is an added attraction. It is close to small charming villages with good food markets, yet it is private enough that you feel romantically alone. Five stars.

We have lived in our La Motte house about six months a year for the last decade. We particuarly enjoy its quiet seclusion and delight in its gardens - over 600 irises and 50 rosebushs - and fruit trees - figs, apricots, plums, apples, hazelnuts and table grapes. The vineyard we look at doesn't actually belong to us. But it might as well. The grapes are mourvedre and the rosé wine it produces is one our favorites at La Motte's wine coop. We've also found that our location close to the autoroute and train station makes it much easier to get to and from, which is a real plus for anyone who likes to minimize traveling time and hassle. Happily all our guests and tenants have enjoyed our place at least as much.
