We stayed in the Waverly Beach Lake house for one week in Oct 2008.
My husband and I have stayed in many rental properties, and we have a good idea of what guests should anticipate upon arrival. A well-reviewed property is always helpful for any prospective renter.
Positive comments: As the ad states, the house is close to the beach. There is a fire pit for bonfires (we used this one night -- very fun!). There is a hammock (very comfortable!), and lots of opportunities for R&R! There is a running/biking trail next to the property. The property is VERY quiet during the day, and at night. There are lots of older trees surronding the house, providing lots of shade, and a cozy, relaxed-feeling. There is a nice area outside to have a BBQ, and dinner party. Plenty of space for a gathering.
The house is an older beach-front property with recent upgrades (freshly painted walls, new fireplace, refinished hardwood floors, fully-renovated upstairs bathroom, recent landscaping). The kitchen has a newer fridge, dishwasher and countertops. The gas stove/oven is an older version, but works fine. But, as with most older homes, the kitchen and bathrooms are small. The bathroom on the first floor is very small with original tile work/fixtures (has not been upgraded).
There are four bedrooms: Two larger bedrooms had queen-sized beds, The other bedroom had two twin beds, and a small fourth small bedroom had two full-sized air mattresses stacked. There were plenty of pillows/linens to go around.
The living area is large, with an L-shaped dining/living area. There is a gas fireplace that is a very efficient heater, and kept the house warm at night. There is a love seat and large couch that are VERY comfortable! The dining area is good for entertaining guests.
The pantry was well stocked with essentials. This house had most staple ingredients, and then some! We left a few things behind for others to enjoy, too.
The owners of the property responded to all our email inquires quickly, and met us at the rental property upon our arrival to give us additional information.
Two negative comments: 1. A thorough house cleaning before our arrival would have made my stay much more pleasurable from the beginning. We spent some time sweeping floors, wiping counters, and cleaning dishes (dirty dishes left in the dishwasher) when we arrived.
2. If you have a cat allergy, you should inform the owner before renting; there was a strong cat presence (cat hair) in the house. Unfortunately, I did not discover this until our arrival. |

Homeowner Response:
We do have two cats that are at the cottage a handful of days per year. We are quite disappointed in our cleaners will have to make a change. We do not charge a cleaning fee and rely on tenants to leave the cottage as they find it. I will take responsibilty for not inspecting the property in person in this one instance as I had a broken arm and leg.(Don't ride motocross). This is something that will not be the case again. When you take a serious look at what is available to rent in the area I think our lakehouse will offer the best experience available. Thanks for the feedback, Nicole.
