My husband had an assignment in New Orleans and we wanted to build some time into the trip to just goof off. We have traveled a great deal (domestically, worldwide) and prefer to not stay in hotels. We feel that you don’t get as much of an experience from your stay when you are in a hotel - and to have similar amenities at a hotel in The Quarter would require you to be very extravagant with your spending. We know first hand, because that’s what we did last year. Ouch.

If you want to “live” in The Quarter during your stay, within walking distance of SO much and a short cab ride to everything else, you need to rent this residence. If you drive, there is a French Quarter parking guest pass (don’t forget to return it), but mind the local rules and be sure you know when the street sweeper is going to come. If you completely blow it and are towed, inside the front door, the owners have posted where NOPD tows your car to.

The difference is this – it’s your home for your stay. It feels like you are staying at a friend’s house and they are out of town. But these are your friends that have style, like comfort, and are generous enough to try to think of everything you might need. For instance, the kitchen -- we only used it for heating up left overs and making coffee every day, but you have a fully stocked kitchen. Handy if you don’t want to eat out every meal or just want to store some snacks or goodies for your cooler for your trip to/from NOLA. There’s a very efficient ice maker in the laundry room (a huge bonus in any Southern home and when mixing cocktails, of course!). There’s also a full size washer & dryer, which was great, because we could reduce the amount of clothes we took with us (when you are transporting professional photo gear, all space is at a premium). There’s an iron & ironing board in case you need some smoothing and there is a HUGE walk-in closet, a dresser in case you need lots of storage.

All of the furnishings are vintage or vintage inspired and modern / modernly styled and comfortable. There are lots of extra pillows for customizing the lounging area(s) of your choice. It’s easy to feel at home.

The only unfortunate thing for us is that we did have to do some work – but BONUS, there’s wireless broadband internet access, so if you have to drag your electronic leash with you, you don’t have to set up camp in a coffee shop to be productive.

Need a rest after traveling or touring all day? You don’t even need to go further than the tiny store on the corner to get yourself an authentic hot or cold muffeletta – or a really yummy egg sandwich for breakfast!

In closing – it’s a great deal for a place to call your own in The French Quarter. You better make your reservation or we might beat you to it.

My fiancé and I had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful place a few weeks ago for a long weekend. It’s located in the heart of the French Quarter on a wonderful, leafy residential street. The property is the top (second) floor of a turn of the century shotgun house and is quite large. Although it has been converted into a sleek, modern residence, it is also VERY romantic, peaceful and comforting. The entire space is carpeted, except for the modern kitchen and marble bathroom and is furnished with antiques (the art deco marble bar in the living room is beautiful!) and what appears to be custom designed furniture; original artwork and sculpture, also. The front of the space looks out on the street through old creole stained milk glass windows and the back has a perfect balcony nestled in a giant live oak tree and overlooking a beautiful courtyard.
The entire experience there was so wonderful for us that we really didn’t want to leave.

The location is only steps to World class and local favorite restaurants (Bayonna,
Stella, Irene's Cuisine, Gallatoires), Jackson Square and shopping on Royal Street and at the upscale Canal Place mall. And, it’s only three or so blocks from the hip and funky Marigny/Frenchman Street area where locals hang out and great live jazz plays apparently every night.

Honestly, our only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer. I recommend the place for honeymoons, “baby-moons” or just a romantic weekend. Parking was also a breeze as the property comes with a parking pass and we were able to park right in front of the place. We ended up walking everywhere the entire time but it was nice to have the car right in front for loading and unloading. We will definitely be back!!
