We spent a weekend at this restful retreat when we were trying to recreate the peace and quiet we'd found on the Maine coast without dealing with the four-hour drive. It was just the break we needed. The house was comfortable and well furnished. A town park on the water was a brief walk away, around the corner. And this only 12 miles from our home in New Haven. Wish we could have stayed longer!

My husband and I stayed at the Ledge Retreat the week of our wedding. The house is spacious and very well maintained and well appointed. I loved the beautiful thoughtful flower arrangements and tasteful decor.
The extras that we really appreciated: -Excellent selection of books to read -Two bikes w/ helmets to take to market -Good music and cd player to keep you company while cooking or having dinner. -Laundry facilities were clean and dependable. -General peace and tranquility that the house naturally provides. -the coolest gold yoga frog you have ever seen on the ledge. -Two wonderful porches (main floor and master bedroom). -Local beach is spectacular and convenient.

Just returned from a girlfriends weekend in this wonderful Branford home. The house is immaculate, nicely furnished and very comfortable. Barbara and Blair were very accomodating. They provided us with lots of helpful information, allowed us to arrive early and leave late. The town beach is lovely and not too far from the house. We consider this a great find and a place we would definitely return to. |

I chose Ledge Retreat for its proximity to Yale but it provided so much more. Proximity to a beautiful park and small beach, restaurants, grocery, town green. The house is comfortably and tastefully furnished. The owners provide many special little touches that just make you just feel welcomed and at home from the minute you arrive. There are many interesting books, guidebooks and CDs. The kitchen has every applicance and utensil one could ever need. And, of course, there is the view of the ledge from every window on the back of the house. Stunning! This will be my home away from home until my daughter graduates.

We enjoyed every square inch of The Ledge Retreat! The property is larger and more accommodating than depicted in the photos. We ventured east by car to Mystic Seaport and west by train to Broadway. In between we took in many hours walking on local wooded trails courtesy of a guidebook provided by the owners. The Ledge Retreat also served the ideal home to host a family dinner!

Like previous guests we want to keep this place our secret. The clean and spacious home was a welcome retreat after a busy day in New Haven. Spacious but cozy, we were able to enjoy family and friends in a relaxed environment. The fireplace was appreciated during our Thanksgiving stay! How nice to enjoy a lovely home while away from ours. Thanks.

We have very mixed feelings about recommending the Ledge Retreat--simply because once the secret of this gem gets out we may never find it available again! The place shone in peak fall colors inside and out. The house itself holds welcoming, calming energies. Barbara is a dream to communicate with by email and phone, attentive and punctual to return messages. For us, the ultimate gracious touch was arriving to a refrigerator holding two packages of English muffins, butter and butter knife on a plate, the best wild blueberry jam we had ever tasted, and a container of coffee cream. Breakfast was ready before we even had to head out to the nearby A & P to get groceries for our other meals. We have family in New Haven and will never visit again without trying first to book this home away from home. Thank you for offering it.

7/16-7/20 The Ledge Retreat is a wonderful home in the quaint town of Branford, CT. The house is cozy with beautifully decorated rooms. It was perfect for day trips up the coast, Yale and NYC. The deck is a pleasant spot for morning coffee and evening star gazing. Ruth, Little Rock, AR |

A lovely house, beautifully appointed and managed by a super friendly and laid-back couple. The beds are very comfortable, there is every amenity in the kitchen, wifi in the house, yoga room with a massage table, and the terrace is terrific. Walking distance to an adorable beach, and easy access to Yale. Recommend highly!

I spent a lovely week at Christmas at the Ledge Retreat. I was looking for a home in the New Haven area in order to be nearby my graduate student son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren for the holidays. Ledge Retreat proved to be the perfect option. It is a very comfortable, updated, well maintained contemporary home in the delightful shoreline community of Branford. The well equipped kitchen and casual dining room are perfect for family gatherings. I spent several wonderful mornings building sand castles with my grandson at the beach which is a short five minute walk away. In addition to being only a ten minute drive from New Haven, the house is also a short drive to Guilford which has a thriving arts community that is not to be missed. All in all, I can’t wait to spend time at the Ledge Retreat again. The owners have thought of everything!

We had a great week relaxing at the Ledge Retreat. We enjoyed cooking inside and on the grill - the dining room and kitchen were fantastic for preparing and eating our Thanksgiving dinner. The proximity to Yale allowed us to go back and forth easily since our sons still had reading and research to do over the break. We took walks, shopped, and generally had a great time. We hope to stay here again sometime.

If you are looking for a quiet and restful place to stay a night or two, or somewhere to settle in for a week or two, Ledge Retreat is a lovely choice. This vacation home in Branford Ct is only minutes by car from downtown New Haven and its restaurants and art museums, but it feels like a different world. A 10 minute walk takes you to the local beach on the Long Island sound for swimming or picnicking, and a short drive takes you to nature trails for great bird watching. If you venture a little further, you can explore New England coastal towns with antique shops and local craft galleries. The back deck of the house sits in the trees, and on the October nights I stayed there, I sat outside and watched the sky go dark and the stars come out, and listened to night sounds of crickets. The owners thoughtfully provided the makings for my morning breakfasts, and if you like to cook, as I do, you’ll find a well-stocked kitchen and a gas grill on the back deck. I hope to return often.

I recently visited Yale University on a business trip and stayed at this property. It was a very enjoyable experience. The location is wonderful- quiet and well located to local shops and restaurants ,the beach, as well as the major attractions of the area. The back deck provides a wonderful spot to relax and observe the local wildlife. The house has been newly renovated and immaculate and includes all the items and comforts that you need for an independent stay. I highly recommend it.
