In two words, this place is ROMANTIC & MAGICAL!
On our last evening there... I proposed to my partner, next to the private pond with the gorgeous & grand weeping willow tree as my witness. The white Christmas lights beautifully lining the bushes - automatically lit up as she said "yes." (Who knew that the lights were on a self timer!).
In the mornings we sipped coffee in the Adirondack chairs by the lush gardens. By noon we were relaxing in the sun on the mini private beach & rowing out across the sweet little pond. By sundown we were sipping wine on the screened in porch while Billie Holiday swooned us.
I can not say enough wonderful things about this sweet & lovely retreat. (Just look at the 'availability page'... that speaks volumes about this jewel.
I HIGHLY recommend Springlake Cottage to anyone who is looking for a relaxing, romantic, quiet, memorable weekend or vacation. For us it was extraordinary!

We took a couple of days after our wedding to unwind at Spring Lake Road. Best. Decision. Ever!!!!
The inside of the house is so beautiful. We never met Cary and Gamble, but based on their design sense and taste in books, we've decided we really like them.
Outdoors--HEAVEN. From the lovely vegetable garden and trickling fountain to the path around the dreamy private pond, every inch of this place is gorgeous. We floated on rafts and rowed in the rowboat. We saw what we thought was a Water Turkey, (based on the bird books handily placed on the coffee table on the screened in porch) and an adorable rabbit hopping around the pond.
We really loved this place and hope that we get to go back next summer. Until then, we'll be dreaming of hammocks...(there are THREE of them!) |

| This is a truly special vacation home with a perfect balance of indoor and outdoor comforts in an exceptional setting. It is a great location in the Hudson Valley -- great for stepping out of the busy life and just enjoying life's simple pleasures: coffee on the deck, vegetables from a garden, an outdoor shower, the sound of crickets and frogs, rising mist on the pond, etc. The pictures offer you a sense of how peaceful and pretty the property is, but only by staying here can you really experience the whole "fairy tale" like feeling you get here. I've stayed in 5-6 VRBO properties and while they have all been great experiences, the Spring Lake Road cottage has a charm and appeal to the senses all to its own. I highly recommend it (just leave a week for me to return!). |

My wife and I feel very fortunate to have found Gamble and Cary's gem in the woods this summer. The pictures don't lie; this place is exactly as enchanting as it looks! The location is ideal in that it's a reasonable drive from NYC, yet you feel SO FAR AWAY. Its proximity to The Storm King Art Center and Beacon is a wonderful bonus as well. We will be back for sure! |

| What a wonderful country getaway!!!Yet so close to shopping (Woodbury Outlets) and West Point..My kids couldn't get over the quiet and the private pond and rowboat...What a treat, the house manages to be close to everything, but give you that far away from everything feel..I highly recommend for families or even a couple with a dog, ours had a blast!! |

DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU DISLIKE: birds churping frogs croaking geese drifting on the pond trees swaying sumptuious bedding eclectic housewares anything artistic chipmonks hummingbirds flowers outdoor showering to name a few...... All of these reviews are absolutely true! We were there from sat to tues and had alot of trouble leaving this piece of property. Theres so much beauty, inside and out. This is the first rental i've ever stayed in that is so esthetically pleasing that it hurts!!!!! I only wish gamble and cary the very best of tenants...

| This is one of the best rentals I've ever done. The pictures do not do the property justice. The cottage is just adorable with a wonderful kitchen/dining area. We were so charmed by the surrounding property which is just amazing. I highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants a little "away" time. Cary and Gamble were terrific. |

Thank you for a relaxing long weekend away from the hustle of New York City. Although it was only a short train ride from Penn Station, the experience was one of country living with a farm house and landscaped grounds. Your home is very special and comfortable. We found the modern open kitchen very useful after the large amount of fresh produce and cheeses that we bought at the Blooming Hill Farm. We also spent a half day exploring Storm King Sculpture Gardens.
We brought my dog and and a good book and after a day of exploring it was great to sit in a lawn chair and relax.
I was suprised by the quiet and simple life. It left me refresh.
A real vacation in a long weekend.

We had the most fantastic long weekend here and will be coming back next year for even longer....It is quite simply a little piece of heaven. The cottage and grounds are gorgeous and the little county roads and farms are great to explore (we even spent an hour at Woodbury to quell any shopping urges- talk about a contrast) Beautiful evenings on the porch reading and drinking glasses of wine, making fresh organic meals in the fab kitchen...it doesn't get better than this! We felt incredibly lucky that Cary and Gamble shared their great place with us!! I just hope we can stay there again...everyone we have told wants to stay there too!!! thank you Charlotte |

I rented this house in July and here we are in late August and I still miss it! Perfect spot for a getaway - feels far removed but close to everything! Nestled in a private location, the house has everything a couple or a small family would need to have a great week-end or week. The kitchen is fully stocked and great to cook in! Out of every window there is nothing but the sounds and sites of nature. A must visit - will look to renting again. Cary and Gamble - thanks for sharing this wonderful place! |

What an idyllic (and quick! an hour from NYC!) getaway! Sitting by the pond, bbq'ing, and my dog running after many bunnies and even a deer made this a very special week. Super clean, comfy house with a well-equipped kitchen and always a great breeze, even in the midst of a heatwave. A definite go-back-to! Will try autumn! |

| What a special place to visit! My friends and I came up for the weekend and had an amazing time. We were worried at first about the storms on Friday night but it turned out to be just magical to sit out on the covered porch and listen to the rain. We spent the entire next day by the pond relaxing. Be sure to be there at 8 pm for a treat (cari really does think of everything). If you want to pretend you live out in the woods book a weekend at this cabin and you'll get your fix. |

I recently stayed at Spring lake with my husband and two children. I have to admit I was afraid to bring them because of ther ages.13 and 17. But to my surprise thay loved the house and all of its beautiful surroundings.I would recommend this houase to anyone looking to get away from everyday norm. You won't regret it. One more thing is that Gamble and Cary are the nicest people. They make you feel like the house is truly yours,if only for a few days. |

We're just back in NYC after two weeks at this marvelous retreat. The property is isolated and private, at least in terms of humans. For company, we made do with deer, geese, croaking bull frogs, birds of every description and song, gorgeous butterflies during the day, sparkling fireflies at night. The pond side of the house, with its languid weeping willows and dense cover, reminded us of the bird sanctuary on Avery Island, LA, where Tabasco sauce is made. In remarkable contrast, the opposite side of the house feels more like the hardwood forests of the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee where Frank grew up. But be warned: according to Debby who swam in the pond every day, the water is very cold.
The interior of the house is delightful, tastefully designed and super functional. The wireless internet connection, a must for us, is fast and steady and there is a nice HD tv for those who care. And the kitchen has all the latest tools if you get the urge to play chef. We spent most of our indoor time on the screened-in porch which is much larger than we expected from the web photos. And maybe best of all, the house stayed cool (we never turned on the air conditioner) while our friends in the city sweat and cursed through the recent heat wave. We'll definitely visit again when we can.

| Wow - what a peaceful retreat. We spent a weekend here recently, soaking up the sun on the "beach", lying around in hammocks and wildlife watching. Evenings were spent grilling on the BBQ and generally chilling out over a bottle. Thank you for allowing us to borrow your little slice of heaven for the weekend! |

Who knew that getting 1 hour out of the city could be so relaxing and refreshing? I went with a group to celebrate a friend's birthday and we all agreed that it was a great way to spend the weekend. The cabin was clean and comfortable and very modern with cable and wireless internet access. I wish that the kitchen in my apartment was so nice! The pond/rowboat was an added treat for each of us, as were the hammocks dotted around the property. I highly recommend spending a few days at this charming escape. |

Amazing that a location so close to NYC can feel so completely private. It is a charming little oasis. The setting with the little pond surrounded by weeping willows is very special and peaceful. You can be in a huge outlet center in 15 minutes if you want, but you'ld never believe it sitting on the deck surrounded by gardens, gazing at the ducks on the pond. The owners are lovely people too. Highly recommended. |
