There are very few homes in quiet Crystal Bay, but some of the best swimming in the world--if you like clear, deep indigo waters framed by sparkling granite boulders to dive from, and no crowds--all within easy walking distance of the house. This home exceeded my expectations--quiet, airy, fresh, clean, cheerful, private, sunny; a beautifully-appointed home with a great master suite and comfy beds, plus a wonderful kitchen and entertaining areas indoors and out. Ideal for anyone wishing to avoid frenetic Tahoe tourism--even our two teenagers voted in favor of staying home to cook & entertain, soak in the hot tub, watch the bunnies & chipmunks in the pine, fir, cedar and aspens. Favorite outings within walking distance: the cove or beach for diving and swimming; a hike to Crystal Bay Lookout for an awesome view of the whole lake; a brief walk up to the espresso bar at the Crystal Bay Club. (Crystal Bay is the North shore's CA/NV stateline--the historic CalNeva & other small casinos are there, but we only sampled the coffee). Crystal Bay is a small, upscale enclave midway between Incline Village NV and Kings Beach, CA. This particular house is on the quietest street in Crystal Bay, tucked away between the water and the main road around the lake. This is one of the tiny "best of" kinds of places known mostly to locals, and should be equally good in winter or summer, as Northstar and Diamond Peak are nearby, and both Squaw and Alpine aren't too far. Highly recommended. |
