What an idyllic little spot! We woke to the birds and nothing else. Peace and quiet and lovely views of the valley. Sitting on the patio with a glass of wine and hearing the owls hooting in the trees in the evening - it doesn't get much better than that. The brilliant kids playground (with stream that all kids and dogs seem unable to avoid!) was perfect for my two girls - they loved paddling about and zipping along the zip wire - only a minute away. The walks are stupendous - and lots to choose from - so good if you have little children and want explore the woods (full of celandine and bluebells in Spring) or want to stride uphill for ages all the way to pub in France Lynch! The local shop is great - brilliant fresh bread, papers, wine and usual necessities. Even though the cottage is annexed to the house it all feels very private and the owners are delightful and keen to please. We walked to a couple of pubs were the food was really good (Red Lion in village ok for drink and occasional live music but not food). Cirencester is a 15 min drive away and we had best chinese in ages - also great leisure centre if weather gets grim and kids need entertaining. Stroud Farmers Market which we went to early on Saturday is really amazing - wide range of local produce and lovely with it. Good bookshops for adults and kids and Woodruffs do perfect coffee if you missing a cosmopolitan cappucino. We also took girls riding to Barton End Stables - highly successful (you can drop into brilliant deli/oyster bar in Nailsworth on your way back - had glowing write up in Sunday Times). All in all a pretty little cottage in a great location. Highly recommended.

Don’t normally do reviews but we had such a wonderful time I thought I should. If you don’t know this part of the Cotswold’s then you are in for a treat and where better to start than staying in this wonderful Cottage in the heart of this very beautiful village of Chalford. The cottage is spacious, warm and well equipped and part of what can only be described as a very grand house sitting in the middle of the village. Your hosts are helpful yet discrete, in the mornings you wake up to nothing but the sound of birds singing in the trees. If you are early enough you can have fresh bread and croissants delivered to your door by the village Donkey much to the amazement of our two year old daughter. You will soon discover as you walk through the village that everyone is very friendly and life has slowed down to a very comfortable pace. Everything in the village is within walking distance and there are some wonderful walk along the canal or up onto the common land most of which will take in wonderful pubs most of which will serve wonderful food and good ale as well as your fizzy larger. Conclusion: Do I really have to go back to work next week?
