Grandma’s House is the near perfect house rental for families. We used the house as a “base camp” for our kids, their kids and extended family who, like us, traveled to Durango to attend our daughter’s wedding. Its chief qualities include:
* Location: The House is one only short block from 18th and Main, an easy walk to downtown and an even shorter walk to the Animas River and adjacent bike bath. Our kids and their kids tubed almost daily from 32d Street to 18th Street. A small park across the street is ideal for little ones.
* Generously Equipped. From a waffle iron to a baby stroller to games and toys for the little ones. The shed included grills, tubes and bikes.
* Great Backyard. The adults lived in the backyard to enjoy the shade and the cool summer breeze. We hosted a dinner party for 50-55 people, demonstrating the ample size of the yard.
* Character. The pictures and furniture confirm this is truly a grandma’s house, and the upstairs bathroom is a classic. The house reminded me of my grandma’s house where my siblings, cousins and I played as kids.
The kitchen is small (as is typical of houses of this period), there is no dishwasher, and our bed was softer than we prefer. But these points posed no real problems and did not affect the extremely good time had by all over the week.
Grandma’s House certainly must be the best rental for families in the Durango area. There was consensus among our family that on a scale of 10, we would rate Grandma’s House as a 9.5.

Had the most perfectly wonderful Christmas, with 20 or so cousins. We shopped in town, went on a sleigh ride, dinner in Pagosa Springs. We spent alot of quality ttime in and around Grandma's House and fabulous Durango. We enjoyed the wonderful homey atmosphere to come home to after shopping with "the girls". "All in all, the house was perfect for what we needed and all that we were expecting and a WHOLE lot more!"

We came for a family vacation. We went to Mesa Verde, rode the train, enjoyed the La Plata County Fair, rafted down the Animas River, toured an art show downtown and enjoyed Durango, and especially Grandma's House. We talked, visited and enjoyed each other. "The house is marvelously we-provisioned. Everything we needed, we found. And the decor is charming. Loved all the flower arrangements and pictures"

Came for daughter graduating from Fort Lewis College. We did all of our cooking and dining here at the house, mainly because it was easier with a 1 1/2 and 3 yr old. Honeyville was fun, enjoyed the community rec center, Maria's Bookstore, took the 2 grandchildren to "The Polar Express". Enjoyed walking in and seeing wolderful old home that would be our special place for four days. The pix on the website and brochures don't do it justice. Oh, if these walls could talk!

Came for daughters wedding at St.Columba's across the street. Getting ready at "Grandma's House" and watching the guests arrive was perfect. The pix of our daughter and the bridal party getting ready in this beautiful house will be looked at and enjoyed for years. The location was ideal. The bride walked out the front door and across the st. to enter the church. Everything we needed was here. From coffee and tea, to duct tape to repair sandles. We go to RI, Montreal, Italy, no house has ever come close to the warmth and comfort we felt staying here. We will return!

We came for a family reunion.Grandma's House in a cozy delight. I got a lump in my throat when I walked in. My dear friend said "No matter what we needed, we just put our hand out and it was there" We have great memories of family suppers, cooking out on 2 glorious evenings, walking along the river, going across to St. Columba's together, playing at the park. Our thanks for a wonderful place!

Came to spend Christmas together. The house was decorated for Christmas and we set the table and lit candles for every dinner. We walked across the street for Christmas Mass. When we rented the home, we knew it was special. We couldn't really tell the rest of the family, and as others have said, pictures don't do it justice! We felt so at home. We'll be back, we've promised one another! Gracias!

Purpose- To see if the spirit of Christmas could be found in the company of two who had not felt it in twelve years. Weather- 30-50* with intermittant snow
What we did- Caught up on reading (business and pleasure). Combined Grandma's cookware with my (RuthAnn's) Oklahome recipes-gained 5 pounds! Met some soul-friends (Joni, Laurie and Family), discovered Christmas lived in the mere company of two, especially when the "two" shared the house with the sweet old spirits whose presence marks its halls. Places I would recommend- Joni's Christmas Brunch! Special Highlights- From 6:00 PM 12/21/03 to 9:30 AM on 12/28/03. For the guests who read this- Please treat this place with the care is has always known.
Special Highlights- from 6:00 pm on 12/21/03 to 9:30 AM on December 28.
