This cozy condo felt like home. My husband and I are generally not “beach” people, but we found Luquillo beach irresistible. It’s absolutely gorgeous—the pink-yellow sand is firm enough to walk on barefoot a mile in both directions from the condo. On weekdays in January, we almost had the beach to ourselves. On some days, the waves in front of the condo were big enough for body surfing.
A 5-minute car ride from the condo brings you to the breathtaking El Junque, the only rain forest in the U.S. (You can see the mountain peaks of El Junque from the back balcony of the condo.) We hiked a well-constructed path through the lush rain forest up to a huge cascading waterfall with a basin beneath it large enough for bathers. Wear your bathing suit under your hiking clothes!
Several very good restaurants are within walking distance of the condo, along with several fast food chains and a large supermarket.
