I was in charge of finding my daughter a place to stay in Paris, for 12 nights, on her recent R&R from her Doctors Without Borders assignment in the Central African Republic. Now, her accomodations in CAR are more than a little primitive, so it wouldn't have taken much to please her, but she was over-the-top excited when she arrived at Joelle's apartment for her stay.
First of all, let me say that Joelle was a dream to work with. I needed to send a package to the apartment for my daughter to have upon her arrival and Joelle arranged for that. My daughter needed to arrive early and leave late from the apartment, because of her flight times. Joelle arranged for that. She was absolutley MORE than accomodating and I'd be sure to recommend her apartment to anyone looking for a place to stay in Paris.
Now, as for the apartment. My daughter's largest need while in Paris was for rest and she said that the bed in this apartment was absolutley the most comfortable she'd ever in her life, laid her head down upon. She loved the towel warmer in the bathroom. She loved having plentiful hot water. And, she loved, loved, loved the location so near the Place des Vosges, where she would go and read for the day. I loved the free international calling, that allowed my daughter to talk with us regularly while in the apartment.
I cannot recommend this apartment enough. I can't imagine anyone not being totally happy with it.
Thanks again, Joelle!! |

On a recent trip to France (May 2009) I stayed for a week at Joelle's "Le Petite Bijou" apartment in the Marais, in the 4th Arondissement of Paris.
Overall, I was very pleased with my stay. The location is excellent, just a block from Place des Vosges, "the most beautiful square in Paris", and a few blocks from all the action in the vicinity of Place de la Bastille, incl. twice weekly street markets. Be sure to get a baguette from the little bakery just a half block north up the street!
The apartment was remarkably quiet despite its location right on the street. The loudest noises were from the floor above, not from outside, and those weren't a problem. Security also seemed to be fine, and the neighborhood safe.
The apartment is exactly as pictured, although the decoration is slowing a little wear and tear around the edges (not a significant problem and scheduled to be freshened soon). The bed, bed area, bathroom, and linens are all especially nice (I loved that red wall!). On the other hand, you should be warned that the kitchen area is very small (as is quite common in Paris studio apartments).
At the time of my visit, only wired Internet was available (which was fine, it was fast and secure) although the equipment in the apartment was wifi- capable. By the time you read this I am told the wi- fi should be enabled in case you need it.
The apartment was cool while I was there, but I purchased a fan anyway which should be available for future visitors as well.
While the apartment was very nice, Moon, the English speaking local contact, was even nicer. In addition to taking care of my other requests promptly and graciously, she saved me when I locked myself out of the apartment (just don't grab the wrong key when you leave)! She is the real jewel!
In all, I recommend Joelle's Petite Bijou very highly.
PS: Joelle is very nice too :-)

| We highly recommend Le Bijou- superb location, clean, well-equipped and filled with helpful information to help one navigate Paris and The Marais. Like many others have commented, you "feel like a local." Coming back to the apartment after a long, busy, crowded day of sightseeing felt great. Wonderful restaurants in the neighborhood also. |

I am a student living abroad in Paris and chose Joelle's apartment mostly because of its wonderful location, virtually next to Place des Vosges and the very convenient Bastille. I truly was thrilled with the apartment itself and was sad to leave it! It is charming and romantic as well as being in a wonderful building and a safe, exciting area. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Paris! |

| Joelle's little "jewel" is just that. The small studio is set up for efficiency and comfort. We were thrilled to be able to stay in a neighborhood that was less touristy, with lots of art studios and boutiques. And after 2 weeks in Italy we really loved the laundromat a half-block away that was very clean, safe and easy to use. Ate at some fabuous recommended neigborhood restaurants and walked only 20 minutes for the best chocolate in Paris! And of course the day always started with a croissant or pastry at the boulangerie at the corner. The most beautiful square in Europe, the Place de Voges is only a block or two away! |

| The Bijou is a real gem! The building is a beautiful part of Paris, with the historical Place des Vosges and Picasso Museum close by. And yet, Joelle’s studio has all the modern conveniences one could want. We especially appreciated the helpful apartment book. We explored many of the cafes and restaurants Joelle suggested. We enjoyed them all, especially the Spanish restaurant down the street. The apartment is close to the Metro, which also was very convenient. If we visit Paris again, we would definitely consider staying at the Bijou again! |

| We stayed in joelle's jewel for a week and the apartment was charming and very well stocked. Marais is a wonderful neighborhood and everything was just steps away. We went to some of the restaurants Joelle recommended and thought they were all excellent. Don't miss the market nearby on Saturdays -we went shopping and made a great dinner at the apartment. We look forward to staying at Joelle's again on our next visit. |

Joelle's Parisian flat was perfect! Cozy in size, the apt. had everything we needed. We especially enjoyed the well-equipped kitchen for meal prep and the towel warmer (also works well as a hang dryer for socks, etc.). Yes, the flat is on the ground floor but is safe and has white iron bars on window.
We loved the neighborhood. There was a boulangerie literally 1 minute away. This was convenient for daily bread and pastries. And for pastry lovers, the apt. is very close to some of the best patisseries in the city!
We will definitely be staying here again on our next visit to Paris. |

| My girlfriend (who became my fiance on the trip :) and I stayed here for one week in July. We loved it! It's exactly as shown in the photos. The neighborhood is wonderful and within walking distance of many major sites... along with tons of restaurants and shops. We felt safe (although the apartment is right on the first floor) and we very comfortable there. We recommend it! |

| My husband and I stayed in Le Petit Bijoux for a week in June and loved it. I, also, chose this apartment because of the recommendations here. Location is terrific. We found ourselves spending most of our time right in Le Marais. I enjoyed sitting in the Place des Vosges and watching the people. The apartment is small, but well equiped. Joelle's concierge book was very helpful. We tried and liked most of her favorite restaurants. Great experience! |

| We stayed at Le Bijou for a week in May, and it's hard to think of things to write that haven't been written in previous comments. I used these comments as my basis for choosing this rental. And everything was absolutely correct. It's a fantastic place to rent. For comfort, value, and a full Parisian experience, it cannot be beat. This place is a winner: steps away from 2 metro stops, excellent restaurants within a few blocks, a supermarket only a few blocks away, and of course fantastic accommodations. You'll love it here. |

| We just returned from 3 weeks in France. We stayed at Le Bijou for 8 days in the beginning of May. The apartment was great for the two of us. Joelle's instructions were detailed and accurate. We appreciated the suggestions in the house book. The location is great - lots of action, great restaurants and boulangeries nearby. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Le Bijou to anyone wanting comfortable accomodations in Paris. Just another plus - lots of hot water and a great shower!. |

We had a lovely stay in this apartment at the end of March. As others have noted, the apartment is wonderfully well situated, and also wonderfully appointed. It is small--just large enought for two people--but it is also thoughtfullly and very well organized, designed and equipped. It is a great thing to go out into Paris, enjoy everything it has to offer, and then to retire to this comfortable apartment.
The pictures on the website do a very good job of representing the apartment. When I walked into it, I felt that I had already seen the apartment. It also comes equipped with a good set of guides to Paris and the area, and very useful information about the apartment and about restaurants in the area. The internet connection in the apartment is very reliable, and the bed is excellent. |

April in Paris! The studio is in a wonderful location - we walked everywhere and enjoyed getting on and off the Batobus on a day when we needed a break from all the walking. The weather was glorious - 70's for the entire week! Took advantage of the supermarche around the corner from the studio to save our euros and had a delightful and very satisfying dinner at The Petite Marche in the neighborhood on our last night in Paris. Enjoyed our stay in the Marais immensely! |

At first we were sceptics and then we were concerned about the transition from owner to owner but let us assure you that this vacation was exceptional. Not only is the studio filled with romance, the décor is enhanced by the superb location in the heart of one of the finest areas in Paris. Take comfortable walking shoes because you are in for a real treat just to walk around the neighbourhood or for that matter anywhere that tourists want to explore. We toured around for hours and then returned to savour the true flavours of Paris in the local dining spots. Selections are plentiful and the recommendations are not only perfect but extremely accurate including prices. Upon arrival, may we recommend that you take a few minutes to learn about this delightful area through all the books that are supplied. The tremendous attention to detail is outstanding. Something very important but not mentioned is that all adaptors for everything imaginable are supplied. Be sure, to give a try to “Chez Janou” for authentic Parisienne cuisine located directly across the street. For fine wine, delicious pastries, fresh baked goods or even groceries, everything is within minutes. We especially appreciated the proximity to the studio from the Metro Station upon arrival. We are still telling everyone about our terrific time in Paris and at the studio. Incidentally, after over 13 years of marriage we found our home away from home. Thank you to the new owner Joelle Dussuyer for assisting us with all the details and arrival information. It certainly made our trip more enjoyable.

"Le Bijou" was fabulous - perfect location, the Marais is the best neighbourhood in Paris - close to everything and beautiful. So many shops and cafes and the Metro was literally 2 minutes away. The apartment was very well equipped, from the towel heater, to the music,to the high speed Internet, to all the great guide books; everything we needed was there. Our only warning is that the bed is so comfortable and the apartment is so cozy, it is difficult to get up in the morning - be warned - we thought we would be up with the sun everyday to explore, but quickly realized Paris is a city that runs late and sleeping in at the Bijou is a fantastic luxury - thanks to Jonathan and Gretchen for thinking of everything and answering all our questions so promptly - we will be back, it was so very hard to leave. Do not hesitate to rent this apartment you will be glad you did ! All the best - Toni and John |

| We returned to "Le Bijou" for a short break in August and found it just as we remember from 2 years ago. It was like coming back to a good friend! Johnatahn and Gretchen have maintained a marvellous apartment that is far superior to any hotel. The surrounding neighbourhood is truly alive with activity and interest to occupy even the most regular visitor to Paris, and the Marais studio is a fantastic base. Needless to say, there is also a welcoming greeting from Brigitte when you arrive. We would never stay any where else in Paris, and will certainly return! |

Had a great time in Paris..even though it was windy, cold and wet. Brigitte met us at the apartment and took care of all the little details. She is absolutely a wonderful, friendly, helpful person...you've got a great caretaker. Went through the "personal yellow guide" and it was very helpful for day to day activities. Great idea! The apartment is very, very cozy and comfortable. Host service...absolutely excellent :-) Just wanted to say "thank you" to Gretchen and Jonathon for their hospitality.

LOOK NO FURTHER! This charming studio is as convenient, clean and luxurious as the most elegant and expensive hotel - and a lot more spacious. Our visit was mid-January and this warm, cozy apartment was just perfect. We started our days with fresh from-the-oven croissants from finest bakery in Paris (according to Jonathan, and we agree!), just a few short blocks away, and at the end of each day these two exhausted, chilled travelers looked forward to returning to it's comfort and warmth. Everything was "first class," especially Gretchen and Jonathan's attention to every detail and anticipation of every need. Stop searching the internet now and reserve this special apartment before someone else beats you to it! |

You need look no further than either of these lovely apts. (studio or two-bedroom)for your holiday in Paris. And don't waste precious luggage space hauling Paris guides with you - everything is here: a range of guidebooks, both British and American publications, detailed descriptions of all local restaurants, courtesy of Gretchen and Jonathan, as well as information on shops, bakeries, markets, etc. in the area. We stayed in the studio, which is excellent value for 2 travellers, even more so if you consider the extra amenities: computer hook-up, hairdryer and even a dishwasher! Although we didn't use the stove,we couldn't have imagined staying in a hotel room and not having the refrigerator - it allowed us to stock up on Brie de Meaux, poulet de Bresse, pate de foie and terrines from the market - after walking miles during the day it was wonderful, on more than one occasion, to put our feet up and dine "chez nous." The mattress on the bed was excellent, something not always appreciated until one is away from home for an extended period, and we appreciated it that there were night-tables and reading lamps on both sides of the bed. We were most fortunate in that Gretchen and Jonathan were in residence upstairs during our stay - they were so helpful and kind and our holiday in Paris was enriched by their presence. |

We confess. We had never rented a vacation apartment before (although we had been to Paris a couple of times). It was comments like those below that convinced us that this would be the place to try first. And it was a wonderful experience. Indeed Jonathan and Gretchen make for ideal hosts. There is no detail too small for them not to be attentive too (including the multiple ways that you can get from the airport to the apartment). And while location can be frightening if you don’t know the specific area, this location is just superb. It takes you two minutes to get to the metro and one minute to get to food, or a laundry. We saved a fortune by being able to use this place like a home —not just a hotel room. We would not hesitate to come back again (and again). Thanks to Jonathan and Gretchen for making Paris such a homey place to visit! |

great neighborhood w/in walking distance of many restaurants, boulangeries, cafes. a few times, we walked all the way to pompidou centre and forum des halles for some shopping. for an off-the-beaten-path walk, you can go to rue de lappe in the 11th for a grittier paris feel, at least for ourselves!
