How fortunate I was to notice a little blurb about this apartment in a daily email of discoveries around the world just when I was trying to make a decision about accommodations in Paris for a week in late October. A quiet apartment of decent size in an attractive neighborhood, with telephone and computer service not just available but included. A kitchen of a size that invited just sitting around the kitchen table to relax at the end of a long day filled with activity. Unobtrusive but dependable help in keeping everything tidy and in order. Plenty of reading material to encourage getting the best out of a relatively short stay in the city. This apartment is certainly a treasure for those who desire to immerse themselves in the life of the city and its work-a-day inhabitants, far enough from the most frequented sights to allow one to believe one is not really a tourist but not so far that one can't make efficient use of the time available to enjoy seeing the things one has to that point only read about and imagined.

For someone like me who spends his time and earns his living observing life in the streets of great cities, Mme. Fawcett's apartment is ideal.
Aside from the obvious amenities (maid service, wssher/dryer, excellent kitchen)and the comforts of a large, well furnished apartment, the place is near the Métro, several handy bus lines, and within walking distance of interesting neighborhoods, first-rate restaurants, Le Luco, and one of the best bakeries in Western Europe.
Considering the cost of an equivalent hotel room, this apartment is a terrific buy. At the end of the day, if you are like me, you are more likely to say, "Time to go home," than to say, "Let's go back to the room." What more could you ask?

In the more than 30 years that I have traveled to France to study, to vacation with family, and to lead tour groups, I have never experienced finer accommodations than those provided by Karen Fawcett. Everything about her apartment at 2, rue Joseph Bara is "haut de gamme", starting with its remarkable proximity to the Jardin du Luxembourg
in Paris' loveliest arrondissement (6e) and to some safe and convenient public transportation - bus, motorcycle and metro. Karen is as astute as she is
gracious. She has anticipated the traveler's every need and has provided every comfort and convenience to make a visit to Paris a personalized insider’s
experience. Ours was unforgettable. The amenities include: a spacious, elegantly-decorated, well-laid-out apartment; a royal welcome (champagne, fresh fruit, goodies and breakfast items); super, professionally-outfitted kitchen; state
of the art appliances - washer, dryer, computer with internet access; painless, free telephone service in France and transatlantic and… the best shower in
Europe (nirvana after a long day’s excursions.)
Karen provides a complete and easy reference
guide that explains how everything functions in the apartment, gives emergency
numbers, suggests good restaurants, etc. Two discreet, yet helpful, housekeepers provide daily tidying up and answers to questions whenever one phones
them. This is the ultimate Paris vacation spot. Proof - it is almost impossible to leave it.

This apartment is beautiful. Well located next to the Jardin du Luxemburg. The double sejour is lovely, the balcony is a bonus and the large American type
kitchen is a rarity in Paris. Lovely building, very quiet and peaceful. It made our visit spectacular!

Our original Paris apartment arrangements fell through two weeks before our flight. We scrambled to find a suitable apt. and found Karen's. We feel extremely fortunate.
The living room is sun-drenched, and separate enough from the bedrooms so that early risers can have some solitude while enjoying their morning coffee.
The street in front is very quiet, and at the end of the block is an extremely convenient, small grocery with great values on good wine.
There is an elevator that proved very useful in ferrying luggage to the apartment. And more than once, at the end of a long day of walking through Paris, did a nice job ferrying passengers as well.
Wireless internet access and the free US phone line were definite plusses.
The apt. is well appointed, and well cared for. Riza and Jenny were discrete, professional and personable. They did a nice job of tidying up and even did laundry for us.
The location is fantastic. In the 6th, two blocks from the bus line, 3-4 from the Metro. On nice days, we walked through Luxembourg Gardens to the bus stop.
No shortage of great restaurants, filled with locals, not tourists. We would highly recommend this apartment. Staying here has convinced us to make renting an apt., rather than a hotel room, the preferred option when visiting for a week.

I've had the pleasure of staying in this lovely apartment on more than one occasion. It's
beautifully designed and outfitted more as a hotel than an apartment that offers only the most essential amenities.

The photos do not do the apartment justice. It's filled with sunshine and it's rare if you hear any noise from within or outside of the apartment. The housekeepers appear to always be on-call and are gracious and willing. They've done my laundry and beautifully ironed my shirts.
In this day of the weak dollar, staying in an apartment makes enormous sense. Hotel
breakfasts alone can break the bank. I got into the habit of inviting people for champagne before dinner before going to one of the area's many
excellent restaurants.
I work when I'm in Paris so I don't want to have to vacuum and clean — not to mention changing sheets and towels. Karen's housekeepers do it all.
The owner is available by phone -- and goes all out to make people's stays memorable. It's not a question of if I will return to this apartment. It's simply when.
This apartment is an ideal environment for someone who's on vacation and others who need to work. The US tie-line is a real plus in addition to the new computer and being able to connect via a fast WiFi connect. ...And the location is perfect.

DUCK for THANKSGIVING.

We did a totally wonderful thing and broke with tradition this year. We spent Thanksgiving in Paris with our two sons (15 and 11). It was an absolute blast, and a big part of the reason why was Karen's apartment.

Karen's apartment is just as wonderful as it's described. Elegant yet cozy. Spacious and quiet. Just steps from the Luxembourg Gardens. Plenty of shopping and restaurants nearby. Our friends, who were staying in a much noisier part of the 6th were
so jealous when they saw Karen's place.

It was a joy to come home to after long walks throughout the city. Riza and Jenny were extremely kind and helpful and keep the place tip top. After looking at literally dozens of places online, we settled on Karen's apartment, and it was a wonderful choice. Much homier and roomier than a hotel. It's a great base from which to explore and
enjoy this beautiful city. We cannot wait to return.

Thank you, Karen, for sharing your home with us.

Cheers,

Your apartment was so much better then I expected and the girls Riza and Jenny are the best.Riza was so helpful with showing us the neighborhood where to shop , where to bank, and most important the wine store. My freind Perla made fast freinds with Riza, they exchanged numbers and e-mail, I am sure they will keep in touch. We found some wonderful restaurants in your neighborhood one especially Il Barone, nice Italian restaurant and our waiter was from the same village outside of naples that John is from, the waiter was very homesick and was so happy to be able to speak his dialect with John. He kept bringing us food to try. LOL!!!!
I can understand why you love Paris!!! It is such a beautiful mix of old and new. And to my surprise the people are as wonderful as the city it self. I had the opputunity to take a wonderful cooking class in Montmarte with Eric his business is called Cooking with Class. It was so much fun.

You enter Karen's apartment thru an elegant foyer, and theres a sumptous feeling of space and I should add that its very very quiet. In the time we stayed we never encountered any outside noise; a rarity among rental apartments. A living room thats
larger than most hotel rooms you stayed in. then theres a shower and separate bath. Both bedrooms have quality furniture, tvs plus dvd's & vcr's and have the look of a top interior designer. And the kitchen is fully equipped with enough dinnerware
for a small army. Enough why would you cook there because a five minute walk gets you to Blvd Montparnasse (a Metro stop is right there) with all kinds of places to dine from Le Coupole, Bistrot Dome, amazing fish restaurants and on the side streets a polyglot assortment of ethnic restaurants which are not only good to eat in but are gentle on
your wallet. On Sundays you can wander over to the Blvd Raspail and find an organic maket over a couple of blocks long where you can take back to the apt. fresh pates, numerous cheese stalls with chesses you never before knew about plus a
number of stalls with a mouthwatering breads, baguettes and you name and they will have
it. In the apt you have a computer, fax and a free phone to call back to the US to chortle to your friends about this amazing apartment. Forgive me for not mentioning Jenny & Riza two darling Filipinos who live upstairs and come in six days a week and clean the apartment wash the linens and who are superb about sorting out questions about the various electrical appliances including tv's dvd's and vcr. My wife and I have traveled Europe for almost thity years and rented apt's in Paris and other European
cities and this is the first one we have stayed in where we had no quibbles or problems.

Cant wait to return.

We are now in the last week of a 3 month sabatical in Paris. We began organizing this adventure 18 months ago by visiting Paris twice to look at potential apartments. We visited 12 in total and viewed another 25 or so on the web. Nothing we saw compared with Karen's place. It starts with location, location ,location. Here we are on a wonderfully quiet, pretty street but within an easy walk to the buzziest parts of town, not to mention, 4 convenient Metro stations.
The easy access to Jardin Luxembourg is a huge asset. Door to door and around the garden's periphery is a wonderful 2 mile way to start the day. Of all the apartments that we visited, none had 2 modern, useable bathrooms like this one. The livingroom is a dream. Best of all is the fabulously friendly and competent assistance of Karen and her 2 on site helpers. This place is a joy!!

Staying at this apartment was a highlight of my trip to Paris. The apt. was located on the Left Bank near the Latin Quater--a great area. It is walking distance from the Eiffel Tower, Louvre and Arch de Triumphe, not to mention all of the great Brasseries on the Left Bank. The apt. is well appointed, beautifully decorated and meticulous. The maid service was a great addition. If you want any additional information about this apt., please contact me. A Belated "thumbs up" on this lovely apartment. My husband and I stayed here in May 2005 for our 15th anniversay. Karen was wonderful in helping us arrange the accommodations. It was spacious and lovely. The internet and phone made it easy to maintain contact with work and home. The location was superb. We experienced "living" in Paris. My daily jaunts to the local patisserie made our breakfast memorable. The bottle of champagne and assorted fruits, ham and cheese made for a lovely celebration. We highly recommend this apartment. We would love to stay here again in the future (if it is available)!

What a delightful apartment. There's a balcony and classic, handsome front room--wonderfully proportioned and loaded with terrific art books and TV. Once through the foyer with its large leaded glass window, is the modern part of the apartment with every amenity one could want. Shower and bath are perfect. The two sleeping rooms (master br and den) are spacious and well-lit--designed for people who read and who love looking out the windows. The beds are most comfortable. Plenty of closet and drawer space. The kitchen's perfect for those who love to cook; clearly a lot of thought went into its design. You won't need to bring any guide books--there are bookcases of books on Paris, loads of fiction and non-fiction too. The housekeepers were gracious and very helpful.
We loved neighborhood. The RER, Metro and buses are minutes away but walking everywhere was what we enjoyed most.

Oh and then there is Karen. She's smart, a terrific communicator and very knowledgeable about Paris. Thanks to Karen and her wonderful apartment this was our favorite trip to Paris.

I was recently lucky enough to stay at this apartment and loved every aspect of it. The space was glorious and there was plenty of room for the three of us. We could spend time together and/or apart.

Compared to the cost of two rooms at a three * hotel, we came out financially far far ahead. Some evenings, we'd stop at the grocery store at the Bon Marche and eat dinner "at home."

Karen's courtesy was so hospitable. Her housekeepers were more than accommodating. She had groceries waiting for us and even made some restaurant reservations. Would we return? The question is: when?

I can't rave enough .

The images on the net whetted our appetite but the reality exceeded expectations. The light was soft and cool in the bright summer of Paris 05. The location was so left bank and validated the decision to stay with in easy reach of gardens, restaurants, palaces, museums, universities, shops and all the motion and activity that makes Paris so special. We walked everywhere.
Two couples and a visiting adult offspring were magnificently accommodated highlighted by many meals cooked at home and washed down by lashings of local wine. Where did those wonderful maids take all those bottles? Those Australians!!!!!

Karen’s eye for detail and service was incredible and what a secret treasure was her wonderful library.
P.S.
Comfortable beds. Pleasant inside on a hot day. Plenty of room. Heaps of dining out options nearby.

No worries mate, we’ll be back.

This is an amazing apartment right in the heart of Montparnasse and St. Germain on a lovely little street that is a joy to come home to day or night.

Let me see, what were my favorite things...

I loved waking up in my favorite neighborhood and going for a run in Les Jardins Luxembourg. I think Maria Medici got it right when she built those gardens and that Chateau and it still towers over the arrondisement with an incredible beauty in all seasons.

It was wonderful for me to make a quick walk to the metro at Notre Dame des Champs to go anywhere I wanted in Paris.

The light from the balcony in the summer evenings is fantastic - that high, thin light that you only see in Northern Europe flooding the classic buildings.

Food shopping was convenient - either the quick ( inexpensive!) shop at the end of the street or a longer walk to Monoprix or the department stores in Montparnasse - nothing was terribly far.

The apartment has a wonderful first bedroom and then an office with a murphy bed for visitors. It's important for business travellers, and I was one on this trip. It's impossible to over emphasize how incredible it is to have internet anytime in Paris - not so easy to find and crucial to me.

The living room is elegant and cozy at the same time - I had Parisian friends for champagne one night and they loved the place.

Finally the owners do make sure your stay is well cared for - maid service ( in the event even the local store is inconvenient they will shop for you) cleaning and a beautifully appointed kitchen.

and shopping in the stores of St. Germain...as much as you want.. or the museums of the left bank...or my favorite cafe on Rue Vaugirard ..or the restaurant on Boulevard Raspail...

This lovely apartment is an oasis of space and elegance—the perfect way to feel at home in Paris. We loved sitting on the balcony, gazing out at the view, sipping wine and nibbling great food and cheese. We can’t emphasize enough how wonderful it is to have a fully-equipped kitchen with a large fridge, which allowed us to indulge in foods at markets and grocery stores. Also, the maids were simply terrific – they kept the apartment cleaned daily and did our laundry whenever needed so we always had the “right thing to wear.” The phone connection to the US and full internet service was invaluable. Karen is a fabulous and conscientious hostess, who made us feel completely welcome.

If you are doing an apartment search as I was a couple months back you are probably looking at pictures of this apartment, reading the description and wondering - is it really that nice? Worth the money? My answer is an emphatic YES.

This apartment is a dream come true. Believe me, pictures and words do not do it justice. You have to experience it.

When we opened the doors and stepped into the foyer there was a collective gasp.It was beautiful! We scattered like children checking out the rooms we had seen in the pictures. They surpassed all our expectations.

My favorite spot was the living room. I would snuggle up on the soft, comfortable sectional, my head propped on a pillow, legs covered with throw. I would be pouring over travel books from Karen's well stocked bookshelves. Music from a fabulous jazz station would be playing in the background. The french windows would be open to let in light and sounds of the neighborhood. My travel companions would be lounging as well. The room was so spacious that we had no trouble finding "our" niche to relax in.

If I wasn't in the living room chances are I would be soaking in "my" tub in the second bathroom. What a treat after a day of sightseeing! This bathroom does not have a toilet which made it a perfect retreat. You could linger forever without fear of someone needing to use the facility. Karen even provided a little basket of toiletries for the bath. Heaven.

The kitchen was another inviting gathering spot. We would set up drinks, snacks and wonderful treats from the neighborhood bakery on the island. We would wander in ond out, helping ourselves. A couple of mornings I scrambled some eggs before heading out. Once I made them for a late night snack. The appliances are brand new and the space is easy to work in. It was a pleasure having a refrigerator to raid and a dishwasher to hid dishes in.

Which leads me to another wonderful feature - daily maid service. Jenny would come in and tidy up so we were free to walk out the door without a care. Worth every penny - oops-euro! We were spoiled.

I know my travel partners would have wonderful things to write about this apartment as well. One of them found the apartment so comfortable that on a few afternoons he opted to stay in, read and enjoy the ambience.

It took a city as fabulous as Paris to lure us out of this lovely apartment. They complemented each other perfectly. So go ahead -treat yourself - you won't regret it!

My husband, two daughters (ages 14 and 10) and I stayed at this lovely apartment on a cold, rainy week in February and it was our oasis. Even more beautiful and spacious than the photos suggest, it was a joy to return to every night, exhausted from our daily travels. Traveling with kids, it was wonderful to have such a well appointed kitchen so we could start each day with coffee and hot chocolate, freshly baked baguettes, croissants, cheese and fruit while we all got ready for the day ahead, rather than hustling out the door to a restaurant. And the internet and phone access was a huge plus. The girls were able to brag to their friends on a daily basis. The beds are more comfortable than mine at home. Unlike a sterile, cramped hotel room, you can truly pretend to be living in Paris during your stay. Karen is a most gracious hostess. It exceeded our every expectation

My family and I just returned from a week in Paris visiting my oldest son, who is studying there this year. The trip was memorable for numerous reasons, not the least of which were these accommodations.

The apartment was just as Karen advertised; well appointed, spacious, clean, and conveniently located. About three blocks from the Metro, numerous cafes and restaurants, and the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens, we couldn't have been more pleased.

As one who has previously stayed in Paris at hotels (not too spacious) I cannot overemphasize the advantages of these apartment accomodations. If for no other reason simply having the ability to come back and relax in the comfortable living area after a long day of touring was worth it. Additionally having access to a full kitchen for keeping food and a ready glass of wine made life so convenient. At Karen's suggestion we went to Le Bon Marche on New Year's Eve and stocked up on gourmet food for an "eat in" dinner rather than deal with the hectic restaurant scene. It worked like a charm, not to mention the cost savings. And lastly, my two teenager loved having both a VCR and DVD player available to them.

Make no mistake about it, this is the way to travel!

We heard about this appartment from friends who RAVED about it--raved about both the appartment and the way in which they were welcomed and treated. The praise was so high that we feared our experience wouldn't live up to it. It did! We loved the apartment, its central location, its comfort. Each day--after busy hours of Paris exploration--we looked forward to our return, relaxing, having a glass of wine, re-energizing for a night out. The apartment was a wonderful haven in a week of activity. We always felt that it welcomed our return.

We hope to repeat with a future week's rental and are recommending Karen Fawcett's flat and treatment to some close friends (not too many, for we fear the "word will get out"). We can't imagine anyone who rents this apartment being disappointed.

Renting an apartment through an online service could be a little like meeting someone to date from an Internet site; it might look really good there but the reality is something else again. This is absolutely NOT the case with this apartment or this site. Not only was there total truth in advertising, something was actually left out; when one rents this apartment one does not feel like a tourist. The delightful comfort of the place, the excellent housekeeping staff, and the truly wonderful location all combined to give us the feeling we were the luckiest residents of Paris. Is it quiet at night? One can hear the proverbial pin drop. Are there excellent restaurants a short distance away? Not only are they excellent but some of them are famous! It really was a superb experience to stay in this grand apartment, so much so that I am loathe to leave. The owner of this place was solicitous and was easily reached by telephone; no absentee landlordism here. This is an owner who CARES.
Thanks again!

My daughters and I stayed in this beautiful apartment August, 2004. This is the perfect apartment for a relaxing and quiet getaway. First of all, it is very clean, very spacious, and beautifully decorated. We really enjoyed being able to have breakfast in the fully equiped kitchen.

The courtyard from the bedroom windows is gorgeous, and it was wonderful to wake up to such a nice quiet place. The neighbors in the apartment are very quiet and it is quite a contrast to the noisy hotel balcony on my previous visit to Paris. You are able to sleep with the bedroom windows open, which is wonderful.

With this apartment, you feel extremely safe due to the wonderful neighborhood in the 6th, the outside coded gate, and the locked door to the foyer. After going up the elevator, there is another locked door to the apartment.

Do not dismiss the convenience of having a refrigerator, microwave, and fully equiped kitchen while on holiday. There is a grocery store just down the street.. so perfect when you are tired from walking all day and don't feel like going out again.

Another wonderful convenience in renting this apartment is that there is full internet access so that you can check your email and research things to do in Paris, along with using mappy to get directions. There is also a telephone available to be able to call the USA for free. Such wonderful conveniences!

I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone wanting to have a wonderful Paris holiday.

kitchen stocked with every conceivable item should you wish to cook ( ha ha ), to the

extremely quiet? and that the 2 girls who come in to clean every day are darling and
accomodating? and that the location can't be improved upon....near the Luxembourg

I've stayed here and wouldn't stay anywhere else. The apartment is beautiful and Ms. Fawcett caters to your every whim.

Not only that, there's daily maid service. My idea and a vacation is not having to change sheets and do laundry. Rather, you'll enjoy the champagne, flowers and fruit awaiting you upon arrival. The price is nothing compared to what you'd have to pay for a suite in a three star hotel. I give the apartment a thumbs up!

I've rented this apartment twice because it combines the best of apartment and hotel living.

It's totally spacious and welcoming. The owner is very accommodating and asks what you'd like stocked in the refrigerator for your arrival. Plus, there's a housekeeper who cleans the apartment each day.

She comes in for about an hour six days a week. However, if you want anything extra done, all you have to do is make your request known and for a fee, you can have your laundry and errands done.

The apartment is a dream. There's even a high speed computer and a tie-line so you can call the U.S. for free. If I were staying in a hotel, accommodations of this size and quality would be way beyond my financial means. These owners care who rents their apartment and it's more than evident.

Not only would I recommend this lovely apartment to rent, I plan to come back each year. It is fantastic. You can see there has been a designer in the mix! This is right in the middle of so many Paris goodies, but you almost don't want to leave the apartment!! The free phone calls to America was great, since this was my first trip to Paris, and I wanted to call everyone to tell them about seeing the Eiffel Tower. Mrs. Fawcett had left a list of places to eat (and ones to avoid) that was a huge help. And she had Champagne waiting for us. My husband saw that there was Internet Connect and if I hadn't been so comfortable sitting in the gigantic living room, sinking down into the very plush sofa, in the midst of all that sunshine, I might have tried to pull him off line. Instead, I took a nap, then got up and searched the pantry to grab a bite before we went out to dinner. We didn't even need to go to dinner the first night, we were so exhausted. So we just ate there. We felt like we were staying at a 5 star hotel. (Or is it 4 star? Whatever the big star hotels get!)
Recommended with a unequivocal!!

I heard about this apartment from one of my friends, who raved about it so much I began to think she was nuts. Nothing could be this fabulous. But she was right. Not only was there a bottle of Champagne waiting for me, the expensive sheets were heaven to fall into after my long flight from California. The living room was practically big enough to fit my entire apartment into, and so relaxing, yet elegant. The bedrooms (well, I already said the sheets were heaven) were roomy and pretty. The kitchen had every convenience known to man. Plus, as an added bonus I was able to call the States for free (except for five minutes when the cable was down). There was also a computer with Internet connect... even AOL Internet Connect. I almost didn't want to visit the rest of Paris. Oh, don't forget to go down the street, maybe two blocks to eat at Le Chamelon. The owners of the apartment suggested it and they know good food! Excellent.
