I love this place! My husband and I wanted to get away and on a limited budget it can be difficult to find somewhere nice by the beach. We chose this cottage because of the price and hoped it was as good as it said it was. It was better!! The private beach was fantastic. The cottage was perfect and the bed was extremely comfortable. It was so private and Linda was just wonderful. My husband and I now plan on making this an annual trip.

Two of my friends and I stayed at the cottage for a night while driving up the Oregon Coast. We had a blast! The cottage is perfect, and has anything one can need while on vacation. Linda was incredibly hospitable - greeting us upon arrival and then spent a lot of time telling us about the area and attractions to see. We especially enjoyed the private beach, the bay front and the sea lions that you can see at the bay front. Linda also had some really good restaurant/food recommendations. This cottage is truly a home away from home. Next time we'll definitely come by to spend more time here. Thank you again, and we look forward to seeing you again.

This was the Best place to stay, with kids. Wendy was so helpful and even provided us with crabbing pots! What motel does that!!! the Cottage was perfect, everything one would need was stocked. Just fantastic!!!! Wendy was such a Happy person, and gave us pointers on fun things to do. We stayed in August of 2008, and always before would stay at a motel on the Beach. We've stayed at Lincoln City for the last 20 Years, ans this was by far the most peaceful and friendly area. And Linda Palmer was a SAINT, all the questions she answered before we arrived. Thanks again The Wades

Hello Palmer family,
My dear friends Todd and Cheryl Telow turned me on to your place. My girlfriend and I came up there and found the place to be a wonderful suprise. We were told that it was a great place but was not sure what we would find as we had never been to the Oregon coast.
Your accomadations were just what we needed for a weekend away. The kitchen came in really handy as we did not have a lot of money to spend. Everything was there that we needed and Wendy was just a phone call away. So I just wanted to say thank you and see you again soon.

My family I had such a great time up there at you cottage by the sea. I was not able to take the hike down to the beach as I have health issues, but my husband and nine year old did and they said that it was worth the effort.
We are looking forward to coming back up there in the spring again and just wanted to say thank you for all of your help and kindness that was shown to us.

My world is pleasently busy and our home is occuplied by many visitors, family and friends. There are times, that our home just is'nt big enough for everyone. Therefore, because of the low rate and wonderful setting, we have been able to obtain a night or two at the beach house.

All of our guest have enjoyed their stay and the kindness of the owners. One of the more difficult choices of travel is finding a place that is clean, comfortable and peaceful. Your beach house, is just that for us and our guest.

Our family gathered there for dinner, music and laughter. The traffic noice is at minimum to the point where you we could still hear the waves below.

When we laughed outloud, we did not have to worry about upsetting anyone. It was so nice to be away from home and yet feel that we never left.

I truly thank you for your kindness, generosity and that at home feeling that we get each time we have guest who need a GREAT place to stay in Newport.

Love and Respect

I have stayed in both of these beach houses and I loved them both. They were cozy and comfortable, with all the things you would need. I love being close enough to walk to the ocean and enjoy the sounds of the waves, but I also like having quick easy access to the highway to go into Newport or any other attraction the Oregon coast has to offer. If you are looking for a cute cozy affordable spot to stay this is perfect for you.

I have stayed at this Ocean Front cottage on several occasions over the years. My most recent stay of in July of this year. I always look forward to the experience. I love the décor, the views, the comfort, and the sense of peace I feel when I am there.

I understand some people have recently felt they were mislead or otherwise did not have a good experience at Linda’s cottage. I feel that is very unfortunate, because I have always had a great experience while staying there.

The location of the cottage is very convenient. If you are traveling to or through Newport Oregon, you will notice there are many wonderful sites, parks, beaches, ocean research centers and on and on, to explore and experience. Linda’s rental is very close to all of these great sites of interest.

This is a privately owned ocean view rental. The owners are not hotel owners; they do not have cleaning personnel on staff. Part of the rental agreement is that you clean up after yourself. It is conceivable, that some past guest’s did not think to clean the lint trap of the dryer. Unfortunate, maybe inconvenient, but certainly not a show stopping event in my view. The beach access trail is fun to venture down but is a bit of a challenge. I have never really been bothered by the road noise myself. It just sounded like a low and distant background muffle from time to time.

But enough of this talk regarding unhappy travelers. As a former Federal Agent, I have traveled throughout this country many times over and have stayed at literally hundreds of hotels over the years. Dollar for dollar, I truly believe this rental to be of Great Value. It’s fun and can house several people. I believe this makes it especially fun and convenient for couples and those traveling with children. You can cook your own meals our just drive down the street and eat at a wonderful restaurant.

I would strongly encourage anyone who is visiting Newport Oregon, people who like to find great deals, those of us who enjoy a nice and peaceful atmosphere, to contact Linda Palmer and stay at her wonderful rental.

Linda & Allen,

thank you so much for renting the Beach Cabin to us for our "newley wed's" to Honeymoon at. They were totally suprised and so greatful to have such a wonderful place to be, and to begin their new life togeather. They have wonderful pictures on them on the private beach, them "hiking" and helping each other down to the beach (kids can do anything). They loved evenings sitting on the bench viewing the ocean. They enjoyed all the movies, the cooking facilities, and the cozy cabin. They are looking forward to returning for a stay on their aniversary. Thank you for helping them make such a wonderful start to their new life. What a wonderful "gift" you gave all of us. It was more wonderful than I could have hoped for. You and the "cabin" will be remembered always.

God Bless you, for your caring and kindness for others. We would never had been able to provide this suprise honeymoon for our kids withour your generosity.

Had a wonderful time at the cottage. The walk to the beach was filled with the aroma of berries and other wonderful and interesting vegetation. The beach was truly an isolated and private piece of heaven along the Oregon Coast. We saw a couple of other folks hiking the beach, but other than that, it was secluded. The sunsets from the bench and the views from the crest of the hill are truly memorable. Thanks for a great place to stay.

My husband and I stayed in one of the cottages two
summers ago and truly enjoyed it. We found it not
only accessible to the beach, but easily accessible
to the highway for travel to any of the many
interesting points of interest in the area, Honestly,
we did not experience traffic noise at all, but
perhaps we are heavier sleepers than most. The
truth is that after the full days we put in there, we
were probably dead tired when bed time finally
arrived.

As far as the cleanliness/tidiness of the cottage,
you couldn't have asked for better. There was even
food in the freezer and the cupboards! Of course
we replaced everything we ate, but we did take the
liberty of eating a few thing (LOL)! As we would if
we were visiting personal friends, we found it no
trouble at all to wash our dishes, linens, etc., and
make sure it was swept and as tidy as it was when
we arrived.

All in all, we have absolutely no complaints. The
beach may not have been as accessible as in other
locations, but we took our beach walks at the
"other locations"! It worked out beautifully!

Thank you Linda and Allen! Hope you keep the
place long enough for us to enjoy another visit.

My wife and I have stayed at the beach house a couple times now in the past but failed to take time to leave any feedback in the past. We do, however, check periodically to see what, if anything, is new or changed with the beach "getaway" and couldn't help but notice a couple negatives recently. We understand what it takes to keep up something as this nature for others to be able to use and enjoy. Therefore, we felt it only right to leave a little feedback of our own since we have surely earned the right and would like to share our own view a little. You're at the coast,,,,,,it isn't expected, to us, to have a paved way to where ever you decide to trek or explore. To me, that includes checking out the beach. The owners can't predict what mother nature might do or change to the surroundings and that includes the path to the beach. Yes, when we were there the steps still existed (somewhat). But, the typical coast weather decided it shouldn't be there so, gone. And, with the abundance of other amentities the cabin offers, it seems to me that the steps/access just isn't really important. But, we didn't expect an escalator. What you do have, reguardless, is an awesome view of the sunsets and the ocean/beach below when standing and looking out. Easy access to town and many other shops, etc. And the facilities? Sure, there is a little clean up at the end but if you take care of the place while there as you would undoubtly your own home then it should be minimal. And just try to find the amenities this cabin offers for even close to what the nightly cost is here. Not going to happen. When you use the dryer, check the lint trap as you would your own at home. When you take a shower, be careful as you would at home. The traffic noise is certainly not "unbearable". You expect, when away from your daily habitat, that anything out of the "norm" is going to catch your attention. It's human nature. The beach/ocean noise? My gosh, isn't that part of what one goes to the coast for? Anyhow, for what it's worth, that is our take and not sure if it would be considered "positive" or what but since it surely isn't negative then I am marking positive. Thanks so much Linda and Allen for all the good times at the beach and, we WILL be back.

I have stayed at the cottage in April 2008. As a writer, this is a great environment to just take the elements in...the mist, smell of the sea and all the romantic air of staying at a cozy cottage. For some people, all they see is what's missing; as an artist, I see the special Oregon palette - what Newport is well known for. I loved my stay, especially the wonderful bed. I thought cleaning after yourself is a given, aren't we all taught that when we were young? If you want 5 star service, please pay the 5 star hotel price.

Both my husband and I love coming over to the beach house at different times of the year to watch the waves and walk along the shore, or watch one of the famous storms. Granted the hike down to the water might take some effort but it is worth it. I like the layout of the place where you can rent either one side or the whole house, so that when I bring my adult children we all have some privacy so that we all get to enjoy it.

I find the owners to be a lot of help, they have gotton me information on what is happening when ever I have called and asked in advance. All in all I would say that each and everyone of my stays in the last 4 years have been very enjoyable.

stayed for 3 days in august 2008. the unit was nice, the beach was fantastic. very private and couldn't have been better. However, it is not "a few steps away from the beach." it's a small hike away from the beach after which you need to propel with a rope approx 25/30 ft down to the beach. a tad difficult to rope down, say lunch. Defiantly not handicap accessible and if you have bad or arthritic knees, hips, not a good idea.
And the 75$ cleaning fee--to recapture this you are required to do all laundry including bedding (i would guess the last tenants did not do the bathroom throw rugs due to the stains on them. I really questioned the sheets when I got there) vacuum and mob the floors, etc.
i won't have minded either of these, had i known about them before i got there.
if these are not issues, i would then recommend it. the private beach is worth truly allot.
FYI - it's also right next to Hwy 101 and traffic is easy to hear, even with this middle aged women's ears.
I've checked a positive review because, it would have been positive with their full disclosure.

Homeowner Response:
This is our second negative comment in four years, but again...this observation about the beach trail is fairly right. I've changed one of the photos to show the pitch of the trail for clarity. Hope it helps you decide if you are up to it or not.

We use an honor system for cleaning to keep cleaning deposits LOW, but we know that this guest followed Leslie (the other negative comment) and she left it immaculate. Yes, you do your own cleaning up before you leave to get your deposit back by restoring the beach cottage to it's original condition.

This means "Leaving the Beach Cottage as You Found It"...clean sheets, clean towels and the beds made, the bathroom cleaned, the kitchen cleaned, dishes and utensils washed and put away along with games, videos etc. and if you tracked in sand or brush...vacuume and/or mop the floor. It's a BEACH COTTAGE so we don't want you to kill yourself as if you were staying at a 5 star hotel...we have a deep cleaning done once a month which has worked for four years. Hope this brings some clarity for our future guests.

Pros: Cute and cozy cottage, very comfy bed, close to lighthouse, restaurants, etc., property managers were nice and helpful.

Cons: 1) The so-called private beach is only accessible by a long hike through overgrown bushes and rappelling a rope down a 20 foot cliff. The steps got washed away years ago! This private beach part was very misleading! 2) The cottage is right NEXT to the highway and the noise at night is unbearable! 3) The dryer doesn't work well, so it took us 4 hours to wash and dry all of the linens. We left the place immaculate! 4) Although we mailed our deposit the same day of booking the cottage, it took almost TWO WEEKS to receive our $75 cleaning deposit back. Unacceptable!

While we understand that Wendy is in the transition of taking over the rental business from Linda, everything felt so unorganized and scattered. The cottage had obviously not been rented in a LONG time and we felt that overall, we were very misled in what to expect from staying there. We will most likely NOT be returning to stay at this particular location. Good Luck!

Homeowner Response:
We regret it when any guest is less than thrilled with the value our beach cottage offers for just $115. a night.

Leslie does make some valid points though and we hope to mitigate them for other guests here and on our opening page. We have the option of posting or not posting these comments, but do not want to be misleading in any way, so we hope the corrections here and on our opening page make your expectations more clear.

We have noted on our opening page that the beach trail is only for guests in good physical condition. Our adult children, other guests and teens and even our 5 year old grandchild use this trail all the time. However, based on Leslie's comments, I would not recommend it for anyone without good physical agility at this point.
The steps went out two years ago, but our last Northwest Pacific storm took about 20 feet of coastline...and made the trail to the beach more challenging.

Very few people used the beach house in the past several months before Leslie visited because we were upgrading it and remodeling it to add extra value for our guests lodging dollar. However, it has been rented constantly since July so any potential negative feelings about it's prior vacancy is no longer an issue.

We were unorganized (more than usual)gearing up to rent it out again...which for us is more a labor of love than for the income.

Unfortunately, this guest did have to deal with our disorganization...and yes, she did leave the cottage immaculate and should have received her deposit back by mail a week sooner! We are very sorry she was so bitterly disappointed, but we offer her two FREE nights at the beach house for as long as we own the cottage... if she decides to visit again.

In four years, we have had only 2 complaints about the 'road/ocean' noise, but we want anyone who is hyper-sensitive to these dual noises of ocean and traffic to know that the cottage is located on a narrow strand between Highway 101 and the Ocean! We have noted it on our opening page.

We checked the dryer after leslie's visit and the filter was crammed with lint so this might account for the SLOW drying...our guests HAVE used it without difficulty.

Thank you Leslie for alerting us to any 'misleading' lack of information you experienced and I hope you will give us another opportunity to serve you FOR TWO FREE NIGHTS in the future.

We are the most AFFORDABLE, cute, clean and cozy cottages in Newport...offering extraordinary value for the dollar, but we aren't a hotel or motel or even a business for that matter. That is why we advertise only on VACATION RENTALS BY OWNER...it's just "our family" wanting to share this awesome place with others at a price they can afford.

It was wonderful. The captain's quarters were so nice and of course the private beach access. Was just great. Yet it was a little ways from the hustle and bustle from town which I liked also. The Crab pots were such a nice touch and I caught most of my crab with it. I would and am going to go there again I will no longer stay at a hotel. This place is much nicer and more comfortable.

As of June, 2004, I asked my Guests to share their experiences in a Guestbook located at the cottages as people seemed to be very busy once they returned home and forgot to go to this website to enter their comments most of the time.

You will find their experiences, recommendations for sites to see, and things that they enjoyed in full when you arrive for your own "Discover Newport" Vacation. I hope you enjoy reading what they have contributed. Because I have entered the comments myself from the on site Guestbook, there is no positive rating possible, but I think you will agree that their experiences were positive once you read what they have shared with you. This is truly a little paradise, regardless of the season, or the reason, for a visit or a vacation.

Yeah, we didn't have any luck with the crabbing this time, but our family loved the private trail and beach. It was so nice and restful to sit on the bench, watch the waves and the ocean. Thanks Mom for letting us enjoy the beach house once again. Thanks for making arrangements for us to stay in your neighbor's larger beach house, but we moved back into yours the next day. There is always coffee here, and all the extras that I doubt anyone else thinks to put in a beach house for their guests. Movies and books and almost any gadget one might have at home. Even the extra toothbrush came in handy as Sierra couldn't find hers. I replaced it, but didn't have to make a special trip at bedtime to go buy a tooth brush. As you know, I stay at hotels and motels all over the world, and I can say that I am most at home, and most comfortable, here. I can tell by the comments of your many guests, you have a little paradise here. Thanks again for everything.

Thank you Linda and Allen for letting us use your wonderful cottage. Sally especially loved the hominess of our stay. As 'locals' we've stayed in several places, but this is now our favorite. It's so nice to come back to a place that's just like home. It rained very hard our first night here, but we were snug and warm in here. We ate at Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay and shortly after being served, the whole town went black from a power outage! We finished our meal by candlelight. It was very good. We caught 15 crab in the bay the next day. We also had a good time shopping in Newport. We'll definitely try to reserve another stay here next year.

We've really enjoyed our three nights in the cottage. It was a very romantic venue for our honeymoon. It was a shame the weather wasn't a bit more cheerful, but it was still fantastic to walk along an empty beach in the wind - it made us feel like we were at home! We ate at the fantastic Tidal Raves last night - can highly recommend it.
Off to Seattle, then back to the UK. We'd definitely like to come back one day and we'll recommend all our friends and family to come here too! Thank you Linda. We had a great time at your cottage. The beach is beautiful. The kids found some shells and a couple of sand dollars and we saw lots of starfish and other creatures at low tide. We went to Florence and rented ATV's and 'dune buggied'. We had a blast on the dunes. An hour rental was plenty of time to wear ourselves out! Went out on a charter and caught lots of fish and crab. It was great coming back to the cottage and relaxing. Newport is a great town with lots to do. OUr five days are gone so we must part! Thank you again!

We visited with the Winchesters, and we too loved the stay at the cottages. This is so much more personal than a stay at a motel. We visited many stores and restaurants in Newport, Depoe Bay and Lincoln City. The fishing with Tradewinds Charter was a real bonus. The Yaquina Lighthouse Tour was great. Thank you for your hospitality and the accomodations. We hope to return and schedules allowing, we can bring our son and daughter. PS- We purchased a new coffee maker for the east cottage as the one that was here, gave up the ghost during our stay!

We had a great time as everyone else seemed to have. Fishing trip at Depoe Bay was good and productive. This is so much better than staying at a motel as it seems 'homey' and it is so comfortable. We trekked down to the beach twice to walk and explore. We ate at the Chowder Bowl in Depoe Bay - it was great! We also had a great steak and seagood dinner at Zabos just south of here, and IZZY'S Pizza at the top of the hill by the Yaquina Head Lighthouse was also a great meal away from Fish and Chowder! What a wonderful time we have had here in Newport and at your 'home away from home'. From Florence to Oceanside, we traveled...marveling at the beauty Oregon has to offer. Quaint old Newport, the wonderful parks, the beautiful beaches, we had a great visit! We hope to return again.
Thank you Linda, for your hospitality. You have made us feel very welcomed. We left some Breyers "Snickers' crunch for your next guest. Hope they enjoy!

We have had a wonderful time in this lovely homey cottage. Nothing was missing! I was so well supplied, clean, comfortable and so cute. What a wonderful place just to rest, relax and watch all your videos. It is so near everything - views, vistas, shops and restaurants. (etc. etc.) We left a new can opener and some food items - like homemade bread for your next guests. Blessings upon you and all your endeavors. I hope we both get the opportunity to come back! Many thanks..

Thank you Linda and Allen! It had to take a couple of wild n' wooly Californians to get this New Jersyan transplant appreciating the best of her own State! Newport has so much to offer. Thanks to you, my son and I discovered and re-discovered the Aquarium, Aquarium Village, the Marine Science Center, Nye Beach, the Lighthouse at Yaquina Head, and it's intrepretive Center,..and best of all, your private beach with is 'trail of major suprises". Found a perfect orange starfish 'permanently resting' on your beach and after much observation, gave him an appropriate burial at sea.
I hope we can dejaVu this great place to stay...time again, and again.

Thanks for a GREAT VACATION! The accomodations were wonderful and more than met our expectations. The kids and we has a super time on the various beaches, the aquarium, lighthouse, tide pools and Bay Crabbing were awesome. We caught 31 crabs! My wife and I enjoyed eating clam chowder from various places in our own 'quest' for the best chowder!
I went on a bottom fishing trip and limited out - LOTS OF FUN! We are looking forward to a return trip already. Thanks again. Tim, Naomi, Jonathan & Kenzi

WOW! How time flies when you're having fun. Our main goal was to chillax, read, walk the beach and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. We did that and so much more. Newport has so much to offer. We enjoyed Hatfield Marine Science Center, shopped at Aquarium Village, Nye Beach and of course, the Historic Bay front...we enjoyed the Coastline from Newport to Lincoln City and visited the Casino. We celebrated a birthday at Tidal Raves (excellent food and service). We went to the local theatre and saw "The Trouble with Summer People" and enjoyed the performance. Yeah, it was a little corney, but I support the good, the bad and the corney. Don't forget Jarilynn Salon for a wonderful massage! Our cottage was very comfortable, well appointed and we had everything we needed and more. Most people will be surprised at your thoughtfulness I think.

We've traveled the world many times over, but we have never felt as 'at home' and 'welcomed'as we did here in our little 'home' away from home.

Linda, we really appreciate you! Thanks for being such a beautiful person. You rock chickie! We came here strangers, but you made us feel like friends. Take care...

Enchanting, Entrancing – What a dream. This was such a delight I will be going back as soon as possible. The Unit was truly a home away from home. Wonderfully stocked with everything you might need to enjoy even the first few hours of when we arrived. I made a cup of coffee and my daughter and I went down to the beach to enjoy the beautiful view, our very first coastal sunset together. Linda was such a delight. Warm and welcoming much more than I could of ever expected. The location was quite and serene but located closely to everything I wished to do. This is a WONDERFULL place for memories to be acquired. Thank you Linda for your warm welcome and beautiful cottage.

Thanks for making your beach home so nice for others to enjoy. We were lucky and had some great sunshine. Seeing the sea lions at the historic Bay Front and watching people 'crab' right off the piers is fun! The Yaquina Light House and the views from the Salal Hill trail look like a post card. What a wonderful place to celebrate our 10th Anniversary!

The Crab Cakes at Tidal Raves were fabulous! We saw whales three different times in Depoe Bay. Shopping at the historic Bayfront is A+! Chowder at the Chowder Bowl ROCKS!
Every night it was wonderful coming 'home' to this place!
Thank you so much for the marvelous stay. We will return many, many times. Newport will always be in our hearts.

My granddaughter (Cayla, age 9) and I were lucky enough to stay at Anchorage East for our vacation in Newport. What a thrill!!!! Early morning, I had coffee while sitting on the bench over looking the Pacific! Quite a thrill for someone from OKLAHOMA!!! The unit was everything and more than we expected. Very comfortable with all the amenities and more. Cayla enjoyed watching the movies and we played the games that were made available to us. It rained, but that was okay. With the skylight, we just watched for the rains to stop and we went out again to beachcomb and enjoy all that Newport has to offer. Thank you so much for providing such a GREAT place for us to stay. Never again will I even consider staying in a hotel when I visit the coast! We felt like we were at our home away from home. THANK YOU!!!

We had a wonderful experience at the Ancorage West Unit. The beach access is easy and makes for long walks on the beach delightful. The unit is "A Number One" and has everything there for the asking. Local dinning from fish and chips to high tea is available in the surrounding area. Shopping from Wal-mart to upscale shops is also available both in Newport and Nye Beach. We had a great time and will be back this coming summer.

The beach cottage was beautiful with many amenities from home that one wouldn't expect. We fell in love at first sight and have been back on numerous occasions. This was the first vacation that we really felt like we could just unwind and relax. I highly recommend this hidden jewel to anyone looking to getaway for a weekend or even a week! It is hard to find direct beach access only steps away from 'home' at such an affordable price, and to have miles of beach all to ourselves to explore was a rare treat for these two Californians used to crowded beaches. Much Thanks for your warm hospitality...and as our Governor once said, "Well be Back!" William and Wendy!

WOW! What an experience. The beach house was great, the view is breath taking. We are already planning our next trip. There is so much to see and do and we only had a few days. Can't beat the price with all the comforts of home and a beautiful sunset to enjoy. What more could you want. It is a wonderful place for stress relief. Get away from the office, kick off your shoes and walk on the beach. WE LOVED IT.

We stayed at your guest house for 5 days in August. It was lovely there and we enjoyed the ocean and beaches. Our activities are more limited but the whole area is lovely. The guest house was neat and clean and had all the ameneties. We would stay there again if in the area.
