We loved the Mountain House. Even though the temperature dropped to -12, the house was warm and comfortable. No frozen pipes. Thanks.

so everything went fine, the weekend was as beautiful as the house. The leaves are just about to turn red up there, and this weekend the Bretton Woods area was best. The weather was actually very good to us and we enjoyed the nature tremendously. If you like, I will recommend the house to our friends.

Just wanted to send a note now that I have come back to reality. The wait to be able to use your fabulous mountain house was certainly worth it!! This was the nicest retreat i have had into the area. It is that area that I have come to love to 'recharge' so to speak. Thank you once again for the opportunity to share your little piece of the mountains!!!

We would like to thank you for opening your mountain house to us. We had a wonderful time. Your directions lead us right to the house without difficulty. The men shoveled off the deck (my husband even had an opportunity to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee and enjoy the view). So much snow!! We made an attempt to use our snow shoes and toboggan, but the snow was too light and fluffy. We just sunk. We failed to make dinner reservations Saturday night so we had to settled for the Littleton diner. If you like diner food it was just ok. Sunday, Feb 18 each did their own thing - some went snowmobiling for the day. Others spent several hours cross country skiing. We spent the day snowshoeing around the ground of the Mount Washington Hotel, enjoying lunch at Fabyan Station. Great Food. We had some time to explore Littleton and Sugar Hill area too.

Happy new year to you and your family. It is really poor form of the Bailey`s that it has taken us 2 weeks to drop you a line since our return to the UK! I actually write this to you on a train down to london on the way to a meeting! Anyway, we had a wonderful and magical Christmas at the Mountain House, and we had the snow, lost of it, especially in the last week. We have never seen snow like it, and the the sledging was brilliant! The mountain house is so wonderful, so cosy and we have wonderful memories of stoking up the fire and eating good food and playing your board games. Your place is by far the best self catering accomodation we have ever been to, and we will be back!
The guy at the post office said `where are you staying` we said the mountain house on maple street, he said, ah yes I know jacki katzman - he and the guy at ma papias (the bagel place) couldn't believe we had found your place on the web. Top marks to the WREN shop and cold mountain cafe, plus angeliques the fish restuarant, they were all so welcoming. We stumbled across a british couple in the littleton book store, said they were just their for the day but would love to visit for longer - we had one of you postcards in our bag, so we passed on your details - we hope to drive your transatlantic bookings for you! To put it in perspective, what we paid you in british pounds was about 900 pounds, over christmas it would cost this for a week in the UK!
Will email some photos when back in the office, sorry about the one bag of trash we left, hope the money we left covered off phone and any other costs.
Here's to plannimg our next trip, maybe a few years away, but it will be a definate.
Talk soon

It did pour, but it ended up being great forced relaxation. We lost power for a few hours on Sat so we sat in and played scrabble by candlelight. The house is great! I hope to be able to visit again soon, I would love to explore the wilderness that the area has to offer Thanks again

Just wanted to drop you a note and say Thank You! We had a wonderful trip and a delightful stay at the Mountain House. It was a bit cold and rainy on Friday, but we made the best of it. It snowed a bit Friday night so it made for a gorgeous hike on Saturday with snow-covered trees. The dogs had a blast and loved playing fetch in the yard. We used the wood stove a couple of days. It was so nice and cozy cuddling up in front of the fire, especially after romping around in the rain on Friday with the dogs. As for the spiral stair case training challenge ... WOO HOO ... Jak did it! I'll send you pictures as soon as I can -- he looked so darn cute! (I still have a regular camera so need to get the film developed). Raven got his back feet up to the second step and then got this panicked look in his eyes and decided he was quite happy just putting his two *front* feet on the bottom step and leaving his back feet on the floor. :) I really hope to return next year ... have decided that next time we go away, it will be for more than 4 days/3 nights as it just was not enough time to unwind from our normal hectic lives.

Hey, thanks for the info - we just got back and had a great time - we actually left home a day early since the forecast was so good and stayed at the Littleton Motel the first night - got in 15 miles of hiking the first 2 days before we even moved into your place.
That deck is a nice place for a late afternoon cocktail. We got to know some of the back roads in the area - we're interested in retiring up there in a few years and have been keeping our eyes open for land.
Thanks much - we had a very memorable vacation.

Thank you for letting us stay in your house this weekend. We eventually got a fire going and everything else just fell into place. Snow fell all day on Friday, so we romped in the woods near the house. Our pup Rigby tried his best to inspect every pile of snow in and around the yard. Saturday was a picture perfect day of cross country skiing up at Bretton Woods. Before leaving on Sunday we snowshoed up Kimball Hill Rd through the orchard and followed some deer tracks back. We also enjoyed our ourselves relaxing inside by the fire all weekend long too.

Hi Jackie, My family, friends and I want to thank you for a wonderfull weekend. The fall colors were just after peak and we were able to experience some great cool, crisp, damp fall weather. We cooked some great dinners at the mountain house, enjoyed good wine, homemade apple crisp and enjoyed campfires outside until early in the morning.
I'd highly recomend others take a quick drive to the beautiful little town of Sugar Hill and stop by at the cheese shop. I went to school in Wisconsin and nothing compares to the cheese we bought at Harmon's.
Thanks again. If we ever make it to the White Mountains again, we'll be sure to contact you again.

I took the privledge of buying more page protectors and fileing your info about things to do about town and added some extras I got...including maps etc. I did a little journaling on some pages. As I was looking thru I started to organize and wala. The extra magnetic pages I put on the bottom shelf of that little stand at the bottom of the stairs...
The house was great.....all the comforts of home.
I'm sure some people like the spiral stairs, but as this body ages and i have to "void"at 1am and 5am, those steps were difficult to negotiate 1/2 asleep.
We hiked Sugarloaf, Mt. Washington, Mt. Willard and to the Aresthusra Falls and Frankenstein Cliffs...and Canoed the Saco one day....and saw 2 movies in littleton........The pizza in Bethlehem was FABULOUS.
Something for your guests to know that is just past the left turn to go to the Cog Railroad, down the road a bit on the right is the AMC - Highland Center just before the Crawford Station.....you can "BORROW" gear there - backpacks, boots, poles etc.
What a beautiful part of the country. You are blessed to own a piece of it.
Thanks for sharing a piece of it with us,

We had a wonderful time at the house as usual. The paving on the road is complete-makes a much smoother ride but I am sure it will also encourage people to go very fast!
Also, I took the hammocks down and and put them in the closet in the living area.

Hello Jacki, Just wanted to let you know how pleased we were spending the weekend at your mountain house. The setting is amazing with its cozy/woodsy feel and that knockout panorama view. The house itself is just perfect for us...great set up with kitchen and living room attached; and a nice big kitchen at that. Comfortable sleeping areas with that great view again. Our weather was good, but it wouldn't have been bad to have been 'holed up' here on a rainy day - still would have enjoyed it. We are looking forward to coming back again. Thanks so much,

Hello Ms. Katzman,
Thank you very much for this week-end. We had the most wonderful time. Left early yesterday to avoid traffic and hit Boston at 11AM!! We left some fresh beautiful flowers for the visitors who were coming yesterday. We enjoyed the camp fire a lot-haven't done that in years- so thank you very much for the brush as well. Got a few postcards with the house to send to our families and show them where we were.
Thank you for everything and have a great week,

Your home is wonderful. Thanks so much for the opportunity to stay there. Yes, we snowshoed up to the orchard you mentioned in your guide, (see the attached photo). The kids slid down the frozen waterfall. They looked for Tikka the Moose at every opportunity. We skied Bretton Woods. Conditions were great. Ate dinner at the Oasis. I got a chance to brush up on your guitar. Emily played along with the metal drum. Nancy mentioned that it just felt nice to be in someone's home that, looking at the your books, etc, just felt like we shared common values. We would love to rent it for school winter vacation next year. Is that a possibility?

We had a fantastic time -- and my wife and I discovered a new love ... snowshoeing. As Frost puts it, the woods are dark and deep. The snow fell as if it were in slow motion ...
And another absolute first -- I pretty muched turned off my cell and didn't think about work. I suspect we will be back -- it could very well become an annual or even bi-annual tradition. --- Michael
Just wanted to let you know what a fantastic time we had... this weekend was absolutely perfect, in every detail. The weather was ideal, and we went out snowshoeing for several hours on Saturday, then enjoyed taking it easy the rest of the time, playing games & reading by the fire. We hope to make this a yearly event! -- Amy

Dear Jacki,
We had another enjoyable stay at your home last weekend. Thanks so much for sharing it with our family. The house was clean and the sinks and tub were scrubbed so Lynn didn’t come in to tidy up after all. It snowed twice while we were there (yay!) and both times your plow guy did the driveway for us. We had a chance to do some hiking and snowshoeing as well as get in a good day of skiing. We assembled the “Snack Stack” puzzle and most of the Mt. Rainier one in the evenings, while the fire kept us warm. Hope you don’t mind that we put them away somewhat intact…it was just too painful to destroy all that work. We slept like logs on the new mattress…very comfy.

Jacki, Best wishes to you in 2005 as well. We had a very nice time in your cozy home. The only thing I wished for was more snow, but there's no controlling that. There was an inch or two on the ground for most of our stay, but it rained and warmed up on Friday & Saturday. The only thing we forgot was our dog's lead, so we couldn't leave him out at first - he loves the cold weather (part Husky). We picked up some cotton rope in town and he was very good at wrapping himself around trees. Thanks for all of your hospitality & area information.
Regards, Jackie

Dear Jacki,
Apologize for a late feed back to you. We were very tired after 14 hours of driving back home, and after that the computer needed some adjustments because of a "virus infection".
We really enjoy our vacation at The Mountain House. I made some notes in your Nature Book. We had winter time (snow & cold weather) as we wanted, the house is friendly, and the location is excellent. And to be sincere i couldn't believe how private it is. We simply love it, and envy you for that spot!!!
We are glad to see that you are interested to improve the house or the conditions for guests convenient. Maybe you can find a way to get rid off the garbage somewhere at the end of the vacation.

Just wanted to say thanks again for sharing your Mountain House with us. It's beginning to feel like our home away from home now after 3 visits. We were lucky with the weather...every day was sunny to partly cloudy with temps in the 40's. So we enjoyed some nice hikes and stargazing. We didn't see any wildlife around the property (except squirrels and mice) but did see a bear cub squeezing under the guardrail out on 302! Hope to be back soon.

We had great weather and the leaves were peak! We had one rainy day on Friday so we went to the train museum which Keegan (our 17 month old) loved and North Conway for some shopping and lunch out. Every other day we hiked and lit a fire in teh wood burning stove, listened to music, cooked dinner, read and of course played. Keegan loved your whale crayon holder he called it a birthday cake. The last night -Friday (we left Saturday so we could have a day at home to regroup before getting back to work) - we had a camp fire with hotdogs and smores. So fun!
Your mountain house was perfect for us and we really enjoyed spending our days outside in the White Mountains - what an enchanting place. We will defintitley go back for more!
Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us!

We had such a wonderful time. The weather was perfect, the house so nice and cozy and the colors so pretty. We do hope to come again. The informationyou provided was so helpful, especially our last Sunday when everything wasso crowded-the Coppermine Trail was perfect, just a few hikers and a nice peaceful walk. (It's funny that you mentioned Middle Sugarloaf because that was on our agenda but we just didn't have enough time)
I, also, enjoyed spending some time in Bethleham. Jim especially liked WREN where everyone was so nice. I just enjoyed sitting on a bench while he was inside, having a latte and watching folks. I felt I came away with a feel for the area. I hope your other guests get a chance to spend time there.
We took lots of pictures and if any come out nice I will send you a few. Unfortunately we didn't get a picture of the moose since we were driving at the time.
Thank you again for sharing your house.

Dear Jacki
A sincere nd heartfelt thank you for opening your house to us. We most enjoyed our stay. We hiked, cooked over the fire, enjoyed the locl fare of the restaurants, played with the dogs, watched sunsets and relaxed.
I serve on a couple local boards and, with others, weigh the pros and cons of tourism as an economic development mechanism. Tourism has its cons. Yet as I look back over our weekend, I see many of the pros that people here present.
We budgeted for this vacation and had no intention of spending on extras. We had brought food and drink and were set. Yet we stumbled across many treasures and found Xmas giftsfor family and friends, books, art and other unplanned purchases! Likewise the menu at the Clamshell Restaurant -- so we went there too. We feel this three-day weekend will have helped the local economy here with minimal impact or use of local resources.
Given the grand time we had, plus the positive local impact, I'd say it was a win-win for all! If I were a gambling man I'd say it was a safe bet that we will look to come back again to bask in the joys of the White Mountains and the communities that live there.

Edward and Gracie and I are just back from the Mountain House and we had a marvelous week. The weather was perfect, cool and clear. Our oldest son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter visited, and I discovered how easy it is to have company in the house, even a baby. I love cooking in that kitchen. This time we ate out only once (at Cold Mountain in Bethlehem).
We didn't take any long hikes because of some leg creakiness so were particularly glad to have your suggestions for short walks. This time we succeeded in finding the walk off Kimball Hill Road around the apple orchard, which is wonderful. We also did the loop down 142, Wing Road, and Hazen Road, and walked up Mt. Willard and along the Coppermine Trail to Bridal Veil Falls. We also took some walks in Bethlehem. We hadn't noticed before that it has more little parks and benches than anyplace on earth. We have become great fans of Maia Papaya, and the Real Coffee Shakes are superb. Each year I find that I read and reread your descriptions and hints and explanations of things to do, always with great pleasure. There's something about your tone that's especially winning-- completely unjudgmental, cheerful, welcoming. I'm sure your instructions help people have wonderful vacations at the Mountain House, whether they scoot up Mt. Washington or do nothing at all.

We had a wonderful time. The house is nestled in a beautiful area and despite the intermittent rain we were able to do something great every day. We took a long hike up to the Zealand Falls Hut which is always beautiful. I knew about the birds from previous hiking trips. I'm not sure what type of birds they are, they're gray and about the size of a dove but they're so use to hikers that they'll land on you to take food. I held up some bread and sure enough the birds came out of the trees landed on my hand and helped themselves. Of course all the kids had to try it. It was amazing. Other days included the Flume, Santa's Village and the Cog Railway with plenty of hiking and nature drives. It was beautiful.
All in all we had a great time. The rain stopped just long enough each night to sneak in a campfire, and it was uncanny during the day. We'd just finish our hike or just leave a park and ...boom...then it would start to pour. I couldn't believe it..we kept lucking out. If we head back up to that area I wouldn't hesitate to contact you again. The only things I'd do differently is pack our own pillows and pray for more sun. Thank you for sharing your mountain retreat, and especially, a big thank you for the Welcome Kit. It was exceptional and allowed us to make the most of the limited time we had.

Jacki, I received my deposit back today for our stay 7/27-7/31. Thank you! We really had a nice time and were plesantly surprised when we first saw the mountain house. It has a very welcoming feel to it, and it's in such a beautiful and peaceful location. Our family is into the fishing and hiking scene so we usually try to stay away from the hustle and bustle of tourist attractions. This was a perfect spot for that. You'll be hearing from us again I'm sure. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of your summer and feel free to use my comment on your web page.

Hello Jacki, Thanks for sharing The Mountain House with us once again. We had another memorable vacation hiking, star gazing and enjoying the peacefulness of your home and property. After spending our days hiking in the mountains (we did the Lincoln-Lafayette loop and Eisenhower & Franklin) we looked forward to relaxing on the deck, taking in the gorgeous view and then watching the sunset. Although the temps were warm, your house stayed cool...so refreshing to come home to. Our dog, Abby, loved racing through the woods, on and off your trails. What wonderful scents she discovered! Two nights were cool enough for a campfire and we toasted marshmallows for s'mores for dessert. We were treated to two fireworks displays during our stay...we saw the Littleton show on the 3rd from the comfort your deck and then the spectacular Bretton Woods production on the 4th.

Hi Jacki,
We loved the house, it was great. We enjoyed cooking in and relaxing and enjoying the incredible view. The lupines were perfect and the bugs really were not too bad. My husband was in charge of the fire – not sure what he did to improve its look but I do know he burned several very large logs! Your guide was so helpful. We have camped in the area before but had not ventured up to Littleton- we loved the bookstore.
Thanks so much for letting us rent, we look forward to doing it again- my son wants to go in the winter( he is four and loved the forest and meadow and the mountain , as he called it, behind your home. )

Hi Jacki, We had a wonderful weekend in your mountain cottage. The weather was perfect, and our "backyard visitor" the moose was a pleasant surprise, he was hanging around the yard for a good hour, just walking around in circles, letting us observe her from your deck. You certainly have our permission to use the pics we took of her on your website. We look forward to visiting again very soon. Thanks again. Kimberly and Keith.

Jacki Well what can I say - the Mountain House is out of this world - we have wonderful memories from our stay. We stayed in many self catering accommodations during our 4 week vacation, your by far was the best - and how well equipped - you even had Taylors English Breakfast Tea to make us feel at home. Hope it was ok to use the paints - we left a painting on your fridge, plus my wife painted an exceptional one of the views from the Mountain House - we bought it home and it is currently being framed and we will put it proudly on display in our hall. Heidi and Jake loved it, the weather was great and we did much walking, plus a lot of paddling in the river down the road. And on one final note - we have taken holiday's throughout Europe and the North America, and always stayed in self catering accommodation - by far yours is the best - for both location and how well equipped the house is. Please quote us in your advertising\brochures. Many thanks

Hi Jacki, the house was more than I hoped for! The weekend was great. Luckily it was "warm" enough to be able to stay outside and enjoy the snow. We snowshoed all day on Saturday. We left a sled in the closet in case anyone would like to use it in the future. I really can't think of much that you could do to make the house more comfortable since it seemed perfect as it was. I am sure we will be repeat visitors. Thank you for a great weekend!!

Your house was warm, cozy and just perfect for all of us. A crowd of us went skiing on Sat. at Cannon and Sun. at Bretton Woods--the conditions were excellent and the mts were just about empty (I think most people probably stayed home for the superbowl weekend). We took advantage of your sled, snowshoes and games in your closet--chess, scrabble blocks for the kids! All in all a great weekend--you have yourself a wonderful hide away! Pretty views and nicely away from the beaten path! We look forward to hopefully visiting your house again. If we know of anyone looking for a place to rent in NH, we will send them your way. And thanks for the deposit--I received it today in the mail. Hopefully we'll be in touch some time in the future-- Cheers, Lauren

Thank you for sending back my hat. It's not the most elegant hat, but I got it on a cold day in Florence, Italy, so it held lots of sentimental value. Your house must be very beautiful in the summer too.

Hi Jacki, We had a wonderful weekend of hiking, dining and relaxation. We loved the house, especially the wood stove and the spacious kitchen. The dogs had a great time romping in the woods. Thanks for everything. As you can see from the picture we were a few weeks too late for foilage. However we did arrive to 3" of fresh snow. We will think of you for future events. Dear Jacki, Thanks for encouraging us to try again because we had a wonderful weekend at your home. As predicted, the weather (for the most part) was great and we enjoyed 2 nice hikes, Mt. Clinton ( in a light snowstorm) and Mt. Garfield, as well as one perfect night of observing the skies. The Kimball Hill Rd. walk was just right for our dog and so convenient, too. The house was great to come home to after a long hike. We would light the fire (that thing puts out some serious heat!) and have a glass of wine while browsing through your books. I especially enjoyed the landscaping and cooking books and Robin read the hiking books. The sunsets from the deck were magnificent! We did set up your telescope and looked across the valley in the daylight but after two cloudy nights, we gave up and put it away. Then on the third night the skies cleared and we used our own since its operation was more familiar to us. Yes, we saw brightly flaming Mars as well as many other celestial objects which just aren't visible here because our skies never get so dark. My favorite is always Andromeda Galaxy because it appears in its true spiral form in NH and we only see a fuzzy white oval here. We also saw the Dumbbell Nebula, the Ring Nebula and the galaxy M33 much clearer than at home as well as several other nebulae, stars, and clusters. After 2 hours, we finally came inside, frozen and satisfied. Your house is nicely stocked ( I loved the shower soaps) but I'd add some regular caffeine-laden coffee to the pantry. Thanks for sharing your home with us and we are looking forward to staying again. Yours, renewed in spirit, Sharon

I and my friends (Vivian, Alice, and Darcy) enjoyed your place very much. We loved your kitchen and took great advantage of it putting together fabulous meals collectively. It was what I expected: a cozy, warm, get away in the woods that is close to the mountains. We had a great time enjoying our leisurely mornings before heading to the Mountains for our hikes (we did Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Jackson), coming back after a long day and cooking great meals, finishing the evening with great conversations and laughs...

Thanks for sharing your Mountain House with us. It was good to get away from everything and just relax without the temptation of television. Read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. Earlier had read The DiVinci Code. Both are good reads. It was interesting to observe Beau, our kerryblue terrier, learn about trail hiking. The first day he was hesitant to jump over running water more than 8 inches, didn't like walking on flat sided logs over muddy bogs, and kept walking into the mud. By the end of four days, he was jumping 30" over brooks, using the log pathways, and had discovered that the edge of muddy bogs provided dry passage. He seemed to enjoy problem solving! Other than the slightly annoying upstairs screen door, everything was perfect about your cabin. The screen door seems to be hinged on the wrong side. We should have asked you to have Mr. Moose stop by for another photo session!

Dear Ms. Katzman:
Based on your water samples taken August 23, 2003, your artesian well water is fine. The water is bacteria free and all parameters are good. The turbidity is not of any concern, the color is zero, well below the recommended color of 15 or less. You have great water.

The house was great. We had three run-ins with 2 1/2" spiders, but other than that all was well. You should find it as you left it. Saturday was great, but we had a very long hike, got back, relaxed w/ the sunset, and by the time we got to the Beal House it was 9 and they weren't serving anymore. So, anniversary dinner ended up being pizza take-out. Sunday it rained hard in the afternoon so we cut our hike short, had a drink at the Mt. Washington hotel, and then made up for Saturday's dinner by going to the spa at the Grand Mountain View hotel in Whitefield. Very nice. We forgot to take a picture w/ the dog, sorry. We'll be in touch for future rentals. Thanks!

Dear Jacki, I just realized it's almost a week since we came home. We had a wonderful week in the Mountain House, and I have been meaning to write and thank you for the hundreds of things you do to make guests comfortable. The weather was too rainy and muggy at first for trail hiking, but we took walks in the neighborhood on back roads. First Kimball Hill, then we discovered that River Road in either direction (it has another name going west, I forget what) is a fine place to walk, with views of the river and mountains, and places where Gracie could get her feet wet. We also found a quiet back road out of Bethlehem that had some interesting views and houses to look at. Then it got drier and we did a little trail hiking after all. And went to Forest Lake State Park. We consulted your compilation of wisdom every day and always found your advice excellent. We loved Polly's Pancake House. (We didn't explore much of Whitefield, except to get ice cream cones one day, between rainstorms, but last year we drove out of town and found the place where we stayed in 1967. It's still there, but not as nice, with more houses.) It was a terrific week off, just what we needed, just what our dog needed-- thanks again. I left one of my books for you to have, a collection of short stories. It's under the boombox. I hope all's well with you. Warm wishes, Alice

Jacki –
Just wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed our stay in New Hampshire last week. Your home there is wonderful, such great views! Just wish the weather had been a bit nicer. We brought our telescope along to use on the deck, but never even unpacked it because the sky was cloud-covered every night.
Our 3-year old son loved the spiral staircase and the lights on the ceiling in the bedroom, and asked if we could bring them home with us when we were packing!
We will certainly consider a return visit. … By staying in Bethlehem, we had the chance to do some different things than we have done in our previous visits to the area. The beach at Forest Lake State Park was practically empty each time we went (which was nearly every afternoon after a hike) … it was very enjoyable for both us and our kids who had their first lake swimming experience.

Hi Jacki,
I just wanted to let you know what a great trip we had…The weather was sunny and dry the entire time, and we had a wonderful time hiking and swimming and eating out and just exploring (Lonesome Lake, Lost River Caves -- spectacular! Polly's Pancake Parlor, etc.). Nicky's favorite part had to be catching crayfish in Echo Lake -- he spent hours doing that on a couple of days with a gang of kids (no doubt the direct descendants of the crayfish I used to catch there). We said hello to the Old Man's forehead -- still seems to be clinging to the cliff. And your mountain retreat was just that.
I left "A Handmade Wilderness" in the book shelves underneath the boom box. I'd love to hear your impressions after you've read it.

The mountain house did its magic again. The fireflies and the lupin combination is irresistible. The house improves as time goes. Little details that add to the charm, nooks and crannies developed to offer more and more comfort, and the majestic meadow that always enchants me as not many other places on earth.

We had a wonderful time. What a haven! On Sat we hiked up to Eisenhower via Edmund's trail. The next day we did Mt Washington via Jewell and descended on Ammonousuc. My sister said she didn't know she had it in her. In my sister's words "I've never had something quite like it with sore muscles and a soaring spirit to do more..." I think she's hooked. We happened upon the Cheryl Wheeler concert at the theater in Bethlehem on Saturday night and decided to go, strolled up and down the Main St at intermission. On Monday had a leisurely morning at your place, explored Littleton, checked out the gristmill, had lunch at the diner, our lattes......thank you!, drove south to Sugar Hill to see the lupine field (although the lupines were in their prime at your place) and made our way back to Arlington totally relaxed and satisfied. Normally I drive to the White Mtns, spend the day hiking and drive back at night. It was such a treat to be there for the entire weekend, have a leisurely dinner, sit on the deck star gazing, watching the fire flies, wake up to the sound of birds. I could have stayed much longer...

Always a pleasure to relax at your mountain house, even in the rain - the quiet patter of raindrops recalls pleasant times, snuggling by the wood stove. And the outdoor fire pit is wonderful for evoking tall tales, while keeping warm on a cool summer or spring evening...

We had a wonderful time relaxing at your place. You have a great view. Loved reading in front of your wood stove. I read through the Cavicchio gardening catalog and started planning changes in our garden. It was fun.
We woke up to snow and fresh powder. It was just beautiful looking out your front door and down your road with snow everywhere. A fabulous day of skiing indeed! And it was fun driving around the snow capped trees.
Yes, and I loved having the guitar available! It's so hard to go skiing, with all that you have to take with you, and take a guitar! I played for a long time and we had great fun playing with all the other musical toys.

Hello, the house was amazing!! We wanted to stay forever. It was so cozy and comfortable that it felt like home the first night. We went snowshoeing with the dogs. What fun they had romping in the powder. We cut quite a few trails for you. There a bunny tracks everywhere. My dogs were so happy they were so upset to leave. The dogs had very long sad faces on the way home.
Snowmobiling, we saw two handsome, healthy coyotes. The snowfall wrapped the trees in snow. How peaceful, a little piece of heaven. The only complaint( if you want to even call it that) is that Dennis was disappointed that the snowmobiling trails were 5 minutes away. We couldn't get to them from the house.
I would change not a thing it is such a great relaxing peaceful atmosphere. You are very lucky to have it. We will come again. Thank you , Courtney

Hi Jacki,
What a delightful place you have! We had a wonderful weekend -- two couples and two 5 year old boys. We appreciated the warm and welcoming feeling it has, and all the instruments, games, books etc. This AM we snowshoed along tracks (I assume yours) down into the woods -- the stillness in the falling snow was incredible. I am sure you know and love every foot of the land.
Our husbands are both former professional musicians, and they couldn't resist taking liberties with your classical guitar, ie, fixing the nut and putting on a new set of strings (both purchased at Northern Lights). The nut as you probably know is the thin bar of white plastic at the top of the neck, just under the tuning pegs. It was cracked in 2 and worn down and made the guitar (according to Steve) hard to play. The original nut is in the black vase on the table next to the guitar. They love doing this sort of thing -- my only concern was that we didn't ask you first, but they were like 2 kids in a candy store, so I truly hope it's ok.
We woke up to 5 inches of snow and it was still coming down, so we called your plow guy (thanks for providing the number) and he came over fairly quickly. Good thing we called -- he says he has 99 customers!
Thanks again for the wonderful stay… it's so nice to know we are coming back (please try to order up some more balmy weather!)

Everything was great ....... we all managed to be very comfortable and had a relaxing weekend. It was too cold to ski on Friday so we shopped. Saturday at Cranmore was great, no wind and ten (warm) degrees. Your list of restaurants was quite helpful. Glad you found everything neat and tidy - even the wood pile!!! We like to leave no trace that we were around!! :)

Hi Jackie, We had a great Thanksgiving and stay at the Mountain House. We loved it! We did have some snow and the driveway was a bit hairy once or twice but nothing we couldn't handle. The kids made great use of the hill and sled! The rattles, drum and Jenga were a big hit also. We really enjoyed the place and would have booked it for Christmas if it were available. We travel to that area often and will definitely book it again. It really beats hotel rooms.

The Chalet was was marvelously quaint but extremely functional and comfortable as well. It's like having a great apartment in the woods! The kids had a ball at local attractions including swimming at a picturesque lake at a state park just 5 minutes away! The White Mountains and it's many attractions are all within half an hour as well. For price comfort and location this place was fantastic! |

What a wonderful vacation we had at your Mountain House. The kids pitched their tent on the deck for their first sleep out. They loved the rock scramble up Bald Mountain and tossing pebbles into the river along the Zealand Trail. Thanks for the great suggestions. We decorated the house with wildflowers from the meadow, picked (and ate!) raspberries, explored the woods and roasted marshmallows in the firepit. It was just like camp, only better because the family was together.

We had a very enjoyable time at the house. Everything was just as you had described. Your info pack was exceptional. Alot of good, useful information included.
The spiral stairs are small and a little hard to navigate (I'm 6' 2" and over 200#), but I can deal with that. The bad thing is that I was usually navigating them in the middle of the night!
Otherwise, we were very comfortable. It is a comfortable house. Just real homey. We had a very nice week, as far as the weather, too. We look forward to (hopefully) another visit next year.

This is just to thank you for making possible one of the best vacations ever. The Mountain House is incredibly comfortable, beautiful, and convenient. I loved waking up hearing thrushes and sitting on the bench in the early evening with a glass of wine while our dog sniffed around. We took several hikes in the area and walked up Kimball Hill several times. We liked resting in the shade at the top and looking around at the mountains and the fields. Thanks for that helpful suggestion (and for all the extremely useful and accurate information).
The house is great. The only thing we didn't love was the spiral staircase, but we even got used to that. It is good to have enough sofa room for two people and a dog, and especially good to be able to cook easily. In the past we've stayed at the sort of summer cabin that contained two pots and seventeen pot lids, none of which fit the pots. What a pleasure to be able to put a meal together without feeling as if vacation was interrupted.
Bethlehem is fascinating. We all but ran over a Hasid in a big medieval hat, but Edward drove around him and he proceeded on his stately way. We went to the movies. We ate in two restaurants. Cold Mountain Cafe (I think it's called) is excellent.
hope we'll find a time to return to your lovely place.

This cabin provides a hybrid between camping and bed-and-breakfasting in the mountains. It operates on ecologically sound principles and the indoors and outdoors intermingle with the windows and doors are open, but providing much more comfort and shelter than camping. It has the quiet seclusion of a near wilderness area, but is close to small-town quaintness and usual 21st century amenities, including gormet food. The drive is part of the experience as the cares of city life wash away by the time you get to Franconia Notch. I love it there.
