We stayed in both Mango and Papaya and really enjoyed both. There were two of us in Mango and it was perfect. Very clean, comfortable, and great patio and view. There were four when we moved to Papaya and it was also very nice. I would suggest Mango if only two guests. The pool and rancho were very nice. The hill seems daunting when you first arrive, but we walked to and from Samara each day to attend classes and had no problem. The monkey action was unbelievable. The owners and staff were great and very helpful. We had a wonderful 3 week stay.

Excerpts from our on-site guest book: We enjoyed your home immensely. It was perfect for 2 couples that share a common goal - to lay back and relax. The beaches were great but Carillo was our favorite - great for swimming and snorkeling. Good luck with your future plans. We'll tell our freinds and be back ourselves!

Excerpts from our on-site guestbook: Wow! Our family of 15 (Aged 57-2) stayed in the three houses (Gecko, Mango and Papaya). Paradise was all ours...The landscape, the weather, the view - no words can describe - you just have to experience it. We're leaving today but its so sad to go. But we'll will be back. This was our finest international trip and will forever more be our first love outside of Canada.

We recently spent 4 days in El Papaya and had a wonderful time. The house, gardens, walkways and pool area were all well kept and comfortable. The views off to the south were fantastic, and Lavae and Steve were very pleasant. My wife are considering making this a regular trip and if so, we will likely go back to el Papaya.

We just got back from our vacation in Costa Rica at Casa El Gecko. It was perhaps one of our most memorable time ever. The house was wonderful and the beaches near Casa El Gecko are fantastic. We had a great time just relaxing and enjoying the beach. Having coffee every morning on the patio with its spectacular view and the parrots flying around was one of my favorite thing . We fell in love with Costa Rica and will definitely be back.

Casa El Geko could not have been more enjoyable for our family vacation. Nestled in the hills above Samara it provided great views, great breezes, great parrot viewing and great sunsets. The home is comfortable and well appointed, while also very private.
I also enjoy Samara and neighboring Carillo very much. Whether looking to snorkle, swim, kayak or just lounge there was a convenient and comfortable spot for us.
Likewise, a bit of adventure is also nearby. I am a birdwatcher, and was delighted to find a wide variety of habitats. I was astounded when I came across an Aricana (relative of the Tucan) just a couple of miles from the house.
As the Costa Ricans would say, Casa El Geko is "pura vida!" |

My sister and I went to Samara and thoroughly enjoyed our stay and didn't really want to leave.. The house we stayed in had an unbelievable view since it was almost on top of a hill.. and you can sit on the porch and see the sun rise on your left and watch it go down on your right. The house had two bedrooms and two baths, ( one with shower, and also an "outdoor" shower. There is a very handy kitchen, with breakfast bar. It has "spectacular view" of the ocean and the reefs & islands. There were 2 bedrooms and the one upstairs has the best view of all...you are looking at water that goes all the way to the southpole. The accomodations were great and we enjoyed every minute while there..
Those of us who don't speak the language fluently,
We went to Ostiomal to watch the turtles come in and toured the many beaches which you can have almost to yourself... as there are more beaches than there are tourists. The weather is to die for. You can hear the monkeys in nearby trees. Try the casado .. a great lunch... We enjoyed the shops,

I stayed at Casa El Gecko in January 2004, and had a fabulous time. I especially enjoyed rising early, and sitting on the veranda to watch the parrots in their morning flight path. The town is full of good restaurants, but it was fun to put on some music, and cook fresh seafood, beans, & rice (with the help of your great cookbooks). Then just to relax on the terrace as the sun sets over the bay. Pura Vida!

This was the perfect spot for a family get-together. Although we took several side trips to visit the beach, take a river tour, and explore, it was tough to beat just relaxing on the lovely veranda, watching the parrots and other wildlife in the area, and enjoying the spectacular view. The house is cool, comfortable, attractive, and very well appointed. An ideal vacation spot.

My husband and I stayed at Casa El Gecko recently. We enjoyed our stay in this lovely home.
The view of Samara Beach is stunning from it's gracious decks, both first floor and the master bedroom.
We had everything that we needed to cook and enjoy our breakfast and dinners. We enjoyed the variety of butterflies that came to visit in the lush gardens.
I liked the beach both at Samara and Cocatillo. I had a great time on the Wingnuts Canopy Tour, leaving from a quick five minute walk down the hill from Casa El Gecko. We kayaked and snorkeled to the island visible from Casa El Gecko and it was quite invigorating.
There are nice little restaurants in town in Samara when you don't feeel like cooking.
This is a gracious and quiet get away that I would recommend to anyone.

The other beach Kathy refers to is Carrillo, about 4 kilometers east of the house.
