We know the South of Spain very well and have for many years organised family holidays in villas around there and the Med. This year we found Alta Rosa and decided to try 'Gaucin' and what a great find. Sylvia proved to be an excellent host passing information to us before, meeting us and ensuring we had a good base of local knowledge to work on. She ensured our stay ran smoothly.
The villa itself is wonderful; isolated and tranquil set amongst unspoint hillsides in it's own almond and olive woods. Modern/convenience touches of pool, internet, plasma TV and aircon kept us content and in touch, but able to remain isolated as we wished.
If you like a quiet place, close to a real pueblo blanco to wine, dine and socialise, prepared to drive a 4x4 and a trek up from the coast then this is a great spot.
We would certainly return :) |

11 years ago we visited Andalucia for the first time. Passing through some of the white villages de la frontera we decided that one day we would come back. From the beginning our favourite was Gaucin. After some Internet research we decided to rent the Alta Rosa Apartment. When we arrived it turned out that there was some practical problem with the apartment , but Sylvia (the owner) generously offered us to stay in the Villa Rosa Alta instead: A competely modernised finca with a big private swimming pool. It is a wonderful place situated a few minutes´ drive from Gaucin. It has all the modern comforts, but still keeps the old charm. It is the quietest and most private and peaceful place you can think of. It has wonderful views of the village and the lush countryside around it.There are pastures and meadows with olive and almond trees all around. In May when we were there the fields were covered with the most fantastic carpet of flowers.. we have never seen anything like it, it is so beautiful! The silence is unbelievable, only birds singing and the sound of bells from a flock of sheep grazing in the hills arund ..not the usual backdrop of traffic sound. We are keen hikers and we very much enjoyed the the terrain around Gaucin. We have no hesitation to recommend this place to people who want to totallty relax and get away from everyday stress

We recently experienced a wonderful extended vacation at Rosa Alta. Accommodations were excellent. Rosa Alta was designed and built with knowledge and caring. Homeowner was most gracious in addressing our unique needs regarding the home and the area. Daytime and nighttime views were breathtaking. Seclusion was most appreciated but location is easily accessible to the beautiful, friendly village of Gaucin.

We stayed at Rosa Alta Villa the last week of a two month stay in Spain. It was a great way to end our trip. The tranquility at the villa was soothing and restful. The only sounds were the donkey occasionally and the sheep. It feels very remote, but it is easy to get to town when necessary. We walked in several times during our stay. The lights of the town are mesmerizing at night. April is a perfect time to be here, with the wildflowers in full bloom. We imagine that every other month is a perfect time too (we think you can't go wrong staying here).

This place is fabulous! The owner, Sylvia, is delightful and very helpful. Villa 'Alta Rosa' is lovely with stunning views. We appreciated the quiet location but enjoyed eating out at Gaucin's good restaurants, as well as visits further afield. The running of the bull on Easter Sunday was a highlight though not quite the spectator sport we imagined! Though English is widely spoken I would make the effort to learn some Spanish before the next visit as the locals are very friendly.
