My family enjoyed several days & nights at the cabin and we will definetly be back. Next time, we'll bring the extended family as this cabin has pleanty of room for 12+. Thanks for the opportunity. Also, I was happy that even the backroads you have to take to get up to the cabin were on my GPS. We didn't have a problem getting there. Quit reading reviews and just book it!

With withered soul and beaten heart, I arrive at this place. Perhpas hope has driven me here, perhaps an inherant need to think there is hope is more likley. Nonetheless, I am greated by a retreat of solitude set upon a point of contemplation and reverance well suited to my needs.

WOW! The sounds outside are lucious to my soul. Loved listening to Cave Creek and your lil' watterfall. We found the bridge over Cave Creek (north and east on the road, past the old Cave Creek Post Office.) Drove to the Buffalo (really we bumped, slipped and crawled) somehow - through Gene Rush WMA. After 3 1/2 hours came out south of Bass. Although we spend a lot of hours in the area kayaking, we will never forget our drive through Gene Rush. BTW - forget trying this drive in a car - 4WD and high clearance needed. Your home is truly wonderful! The peace and tranquility were what we were looking for. AAH! Hope to see you again...

Thank you again for allowing us to enjoy your little piece of heaven. This was our second Christmas to spend here. It is a wonderful place. We hiked around here several days and were able to find caves and waterfalls prettier than any on the state maps. Even through it rained on Christmas day (we had snow last time) we were still able to have a beautiful and peaceful Christmas Holiday. We hope to see you again.

Our second summer back to the cabin, and we had just as much fun as we did the first summer we were here! We played in the creek, rode the 4-wheeler, went into town, and swam in the Buffalo River. Every night we played Yahtzee and watched movies - what a good way to reconnect from the hurry of our everyday. Thank you for opening your cabin. We'll see ya next year!

Our family loved our week at Cave Creek Cabin. The cabin was lovely and welcoming after a long drive. The creek was great - the kids fshed and swam and the two labs swam and played - we spent a lot of time at the creek. We never found the caves - I wish you had directions on where to hike to get there. Maybe they are easier to see in the fall/winter when the brush is less. We made a bonfire outside every night. The weather was pefect - even the few brief late afternoon storms. We are going home sunburned, tick bit and chigger covered, but we will miss it very much. Maybe not the chiggers.

WOW! The cabin and property are better than the website photos. We brought DVDs but spent our TV time watching your classic movies. Great selection.

It was so quiet....the perfect place to wind down. The bluffs, visible from the front porch, are amazing. We drove down to the creek and spent several hours exploring the cliffs under the cabin.

The adjoining Gene Rush WMA is a great place to explore...with 4wd!
Thanks for a great time!

My best friends and I enjoyed this cabin as we left 2005 and began 2006! It was an awesome night: XXX orange juice (tiny sips), sparklers galore, some fast finger pickin', a fire that just wouldn't stop, brambly bushes, sinrise onthe bluff*****, meta what a talk and a few others tooting their own horn! It was memorable, to say the least, Thank you.

What a place to get away from it all. The hike down to the swimmin' ole made for a beautiful afternoon - that is a piece of heaven, down there. We explored the bluffs and the creek as snow flurries cam and went. Hated to leave it but loved returning to your warm cabin. The fireplace - the whole cabin is extraordinary. You'll probably want to keep this place forever, I would if I were you, but should you ever think of selling, please give us a call.

Stayed 10 days for our 15th wedding anniversary. Our 5th trip to the area in 10 years - love the area! This was a lovely cabin on a neat spot - definitely secluded . We hiked all over. It is very dry, yet there was water and fish in this creek (even the Buffalo is nearly dry). It has been too cold to use the porch, but great weather for the fireplace. Found the "Way Back in the Hills and "History of Newton County" books - definitely a good read to get an appreciation of the history of the area, and just a good read in general.
(If you are looking for where to hike and what to do in Newton County - go to Jasper - the ranger station just north of town has all the maps of trails and drives in the area. Visit the "Spice of Life" bakery, Ozark Cafe, and the other little shops around the square - a neat little town! Also the Visitor Info center on the square will tell you plenty to do and see.)
Thank you for a mrmorable anniversary.

We enjoyed the river and just being together as a family unit. I had to cook dinners and wash dishes (somebody owes me!:) O
ur 5 year old was a little freaked out by the bugs, but we are city folk so it was a fun experience.

What a beautiful place to visit! The weather was perfect, the view was gorgeous, the cabin was even better than we had hoped, and the kids loved playing in the creek. The only thing we hated was leaving!! One note- be careful driving down and up the road to the creek, we got a flat tire from a sharp rock, but all ended well and we had a great time.

We all emjoyed relaxing in the swing. We visited Hurricane RIver Cave and my kids were a little afraid of the bats. We enjoy coming here, but my husband works too much cutting trees and cleaning up outside. We'll be back this fall.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week here at Cave Creek Cabin! Everything in the cabin was clean and well stocked, and the rustic decorating was exceptionally charming, from the crackled, whit-washed furniture to the woodland-themed books and artwork. The view from the kitchen was great, too - we saw several hummingbirds and a ton of blue and black butterflies.
Our favorite spot, though, was undoubtable the creek. The hike down there was great exercise and we loved exploring all the fishing holes.

The scenery and view is breath taking. My husband and I enjoyed our trek to the edge of the cliff (a little scarry - but worth the view!)
We loved the early mornings on the porch sipping coffee - and the peace and quiet with no phones ringing off the wall was perfect!
The house is amazing in every way (except all the splinters we recieved from going barefoot) and the tub is very relaxing after a day playing along the creek! Thank you.

Only been here 3 days and already don't know what day or date! We should forget things lik this more often - might live longer. We are country folks and live in the hills, but not like this. Good to get away by ourselves and just enjoy. A very nice place and way back - scenery - hills - creek - cabin - everything very good. Walk road front of cabin to gate very pretty and quiet; must have been earlier way to be here. camped and stayed in cabins, 1950-1960, at Pruitt. Just did not explore these hills enough then.

Thank you so much for the great stay. We met our niece and nephew here for a couple of days and enjoyed every minute of it. We're from Louisiana and they are from Texas. Idon't think we could have picked a better place to visit each other. My husband and I walked down to one of the bluffs and what a sight! Our son and his friend took a very long walk and explored some neat places here. He got within 30 feet of an elk and was so excited. He is sixteen and has been an outdoor person all his life. He had nothing but good things to say about this cozy place. Thabnks to special people like you - make life even better!
Our great niece and nephew have enjoyed themselves too! They are satying a few more days. I wish we could, but work calls. One thing - I agree that you should clear a few trees to be able to llok at the great views. Older od disabled people would not be able to see the things wesaw if you didn't. Just a suggestion.

We have hiked Cedar Falls and Bear Cave at Petit Jean State Park, paddle boated on Lake Bailey at Petit Jean State Park, visited Jasper to shop and tour Mystic Caverns. We have canoed the Buffalo River 6 miles & visited the creek on this property many times. We have roasted hotdogs and marshmallows on an open fire.
We have enjoyed the goat on the hillside and the dog herder that greets us each time we come and go to the main road. My children enjoyed seeing the dog and calling him to the fence each time we passed by - what a great & smart dog.
We have also enjoyed coming in at dusk and looking for deer at sdusk and looking for deer and elk, rabbits, etc. in the fields and roads. In Texas, we call this spot-lighting, either your vehicle headlights or a strong hand held light catches the eyes of wild animals out after dark.
It was so nice to see the fireflies out at night; I remember seeing these a a child in Texas; you don't see them much anymore and I got to teach my children what they are and how mystical the are.
Thank you for sharing all the differend wonders this area has to offer.

What a beautiful place! The cabin was every thing we expected and more! My husband has been in Afghanistan for 4 1/2 months and this was the perfect getaway for us. Seclusion is what we were looking for and we certainly got it here. It was so peaceful, no noiise except the birds and wind. The family of bludbirds entertained us with their antics in front of the mirror we placed on their house. (they wouldn't stay off of the car mirrors)
A couple of day trips - one to Judy where my husband bought me a beautiful antique stained glass window for my birthday 6/8/05. Mostly, we sat on the porch watching the wildlife - birds, squirrels, turkeys, butterflies, deer, grogs, lizards, snakes (only 1 king snake) and enjoyed each other. We hope return after hiw years mission is up in January. The view from the porch should be something 3else without the leaves on the trees. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful cabin with us.
P.S. Take a hint from Hansel & Gretel, mark your way out of the cabin our you may never find your way back.

Family is something we sometimes take for granted. As we grow older, we go separate ways - some of us move away & therefore, our time spent together is less often.
However, there are special occasions which bring us all together and helps us remember the true meaning of family. This year we decided to do something special, so we gathered together at the Cave Creek Cabin to honor our mother/grandmother/great-grandmother, Gladine Sullivan Eddings of Harrison, Arkansas.
Gladines children, Barbara Langford (Haynesville, LA), Joe Eddings (Mtn. Home, AR), each of theri families traveled from all over to share this special Mother's Day with a woman we all love so much, Glading Eddings.
Our weekend included floating theBuffalo River, a trip to Mt. Judea, hiking in the hills, a special Mother's Day service at Ben's Branch Curch of Christ with our cousin, Junior Dodson, delivering the morning message. We all enjoyed our stay here at the Cave Creek Cabin. It is a beautiful and relaxing place.
Sincerely,

We came to Cave Creek also to enjoy quality family time. My husband, baby dauhter and I stayed for six very enjoyable days to recuperate from a very hectic home life and to visit family who live a few hours away. What a wonderful way to begin a summer break!
Our baby loved the swimming hole and the solitude was surreal. we also met a few of the locals and swam at Bobby's Hole with a few "neighbors" from this mountain.
Everyone has been very nice and probably throught we were the crazy folks who drove passed their houses 101 times on our visit (we found a really easy shortcut to Judy but it wasn't until our last day... wouldn't cha know).
Today we spent a beautiful day at Silver Creek on the Buffalo - since the river is low, few people were enjoying that beautiful spot. You couldn't have asked for nicer weather or a more beautiful river. The bluffs were breathtaking. We love Arkansas!
As for wildlife, we saw a very nervous doe cross thefield a few hours ago. We saw the family of blue birds in the box out front. We saw squirrels, rabbits, frogs, lizards and an ornate box turtle on our walks about the cabin.

My favorite thing about the cabin is the beautiful open widow in the kitchen. My husband's favorite thing is the seclusion, and our daughter's favorite is the porch (she would cry to come outside).
My (our) faavorite thing about this trip is all the butterflies!!! Wow!!! I've never sween so many - Cave Creek Cabin must be dead center of their migratory pathway.
Thanks for the nice campfire ring. We enjoyed a nice campfire one night but left wood as our next one proved to be too windy. With the dry weather we didn't want to cause any mishaps. Next inhabitants enjoy!
Thank you, Formica Family, for sharing your solitude with a family in need.

What a great escape! We were beginning to wonder though - after 7 wrong turnws - 2 hours to drive 5 miles! It' a miracle we ever got here! (and... got out and got back in!)
Beware of the attach blue birds! They love vehicles with mirrors!
Be sure and read "Way Back in the Hills" - it was a great book - thanks to the others who recommended it.
I do agree that some of the trees need to be cleared to afford a nicer view of the river and valley.
Beware of snakes - we saw three close to the cabin - non poisonous, however.

May 18-22 what happens when 8 Episcopalians, a Baptist and a Catholic stay at Cave Creek Cabin? Wait... we got a token Lutheran too!
It starts with a 7+ hour drive from Texas and Mississippi that ends in discussions over the two-way radio about which fork in the endless gravel road to take. Then that's followed by relief - we found the cagin and awestruck by its beauty.
The remainder of our time is summed up as follows:
Food, food, FOOD!
Fantastic floats down the Buffalo River with the occasional unexplained turn-overs, also known as a courtesy dip.
Hours and hours of hunting for rocks
Perfect weather
Big, big, BIG stories by campfire
Cigars and peanuts
Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey
Catching big fish (well mostly the lack thereof) What was that $11 for again?
Condors, buzzards, eagles (depends on the amount of whiskey consumed at the time of the sighting).
Jokes, with some being good, others... not so much
Did I mention the BIG stories?
Having solved ALL the world's problems by campfire
Laughter until your stomach hurts
Sleeping under the stars and counting satellites
Having seen some rabbits, three turkey, and one deer (none near the cabin), the conclusion was made the wildlife was afraid to come too close
Prayers
Naps
Selection committees
Talks of the "old times"
Old Fart t-shirts
Basically, it started and ended like all the trips do... tyhe renewal of old friendships, stronger faith in God and the hope that we all live life to its fullest. We look forward to our next adventure.
Thanks,Cave Creek Cabin, for being part of our life journey.God Bless

Wow, the water flowing over the road was a surprise! However, after talking wit a local lady, we were reassured that crossing was not a problem. Although we crossed with visions of floating down the creek and into the Buffalo (eliminating our need for renting a canoe) we actually made it.
When driving up the road, we again had visions of having to meet several locals to give them special passwords and engage in local rituals to gain entrance into the cabin - that drama didn't materialize.
When we invaded the cabin, we immediately wondered if Dave (the caretaker) had come or waws missing on the property - perhaps the barn? That would explain why the truck mysteriously was moved tovarious placed on the property.
After starting a cozy indoor fire and eating our veggie chili (hey, we are from around Boulder, CO) we bunked down.
Day 2:Drove to Tyler Bend by National River VIsitor Center to get our National Pack Passport stamped. We hiked that area and enjoyed the views and the Collier homestead.
We then split up and the more adventurous went to Hurricain Cave! When they returned we found that the cave is the beginning of all that is interesting in life (dead Indian boy, sabertooth tiger, large extince bears & Elvis Presley: in short, SEE the CAVE.
That night we all had a lot of funlooking at the many stars, moths & beds.

Thanks so much for creating such a wonderful and magical spot for a family to share quality time. This was the best... Sharon Grandi

Couldn't have hoped for a more enjoyable family vacation. The cabin was ideal and the scenery and views spectacular. The boys had a great time scrambling down the hill to the creek and following it down to Cave Creek. The view from the bluff just below the cabin is awesome. Didn't see any deer around the cabin; probably because deer season just ended, but watched a bald eagle circle overhead from the bluff. Drove to Ponca one evening at dusk and saw a bull elk standing in the pasture. Then, as we watched, two more bulls and seven cow elk slipped out of the forest and into the pasture. Caught a few smallmouth down at Cave Creek. One of our favorite discoveries was a series of huge bluffs, caves and crevaces we hiked along for hours near Cowell. To get there, go to Cowell on Route 7, then turn north onto 55 (a dirt road) for about 5.5 miles. The bluffs are on your left and well worth a visit.
What a great way to bring in the New Year! Lots of hiking, fishing, board games and laughing. The scenery, rock formations, elk... all incredible! And the local people are so friendly. Happy New Year to All!!!

This is a quiet, secluded place. Our children thought after 50 years of marriage we needed a place like this. (They surprised us).
Getting here wasn't to easy in the rain - missing a turn and getting stuck in the red clay, but all was calm when we made it about forty-five minutes later than anticipated.
10/11/04 Our cell phone worked after we got here and talked to both daughters. Sometimes it's difficult to talk to our son who lives further away. He was probably golfing with his son, Jay, after school if it wasn't too rainy.
Bob build a fire and after eating we sat around the fire reading, "What on earth am I here for?" (Forty Days of Purpose) This is a good place to find out.
12/12/04 We had a good night's sleep. Today Bob is celebrating his 72nd birthday. We had a nice breakfast. Biscuits, hash browns, eggs and gravy (I forgot to cook the sausage). Maybe we'll have another tomorrow. I have seen one squirrel and it is 10:30 in the mnorning. It is 5:40 p.m. We have had a very relaxing day. We walked down a trail but haven't seen any wildlife.
10/13/04 The sun came out today. We saw two deer after we ate breakfast. We went to the creek and saw the old log barn. It is a beautiful place - the meadow - the bluffs and the creek. Our daughter and son came to visit and brought lunch - Enjoyable time.
10/14/04 Another rainy day. Bob saw four deer yesterday when he went for a walk. The squirrels are really busy going to the top of the trees. We have been doing a lot of reading and relaxing - a nice place to reflect on the beauty of creation.
10/15/04 Our fifty years together - 10/15/06. Its a good thing we still like each other. This place is so remote no one would ever find us. Ha! Forty-two degrees this mnorning at 8:15 a.m. The sun is out. Another beautiful day.
10/16/04 No sun this morning. We've had a nice, relaxing time, Thanks!

Wow! What a way to celebrate our 25th Anniversary - completely alone in God's beautiful country, in this wonderful cabin! It exceeded all of our expectations! There is absolutely nowhere else on earth we would rather be! Gray and I enjoyed the "Quiet," the peace, star-gazing, hiking, the rain on the tin roof, the sunrise as we sat in the swing with our morning coffee, the fall colors starting to show, exploring the creek, the night sounds, but, best of all, sitting in our bed in the morning and watching the deer feeding right outside the bedroom window!
Your cabin is beautifully done, and we appreciate so much your allowing us to use it for our stay! Matter of fact, we were so swept away by its beauty and surroundings that, even though we had a flat right when we pulled up, we didn't even bother to fix it for three days! We just didn't care about going anywhere else!
We're heading out now, but hope to bring our whole crew with us when we come back (our two sons, married daughter, her husband and two little ones)! And we will be back, God willing (and the "creek don't rise!").
Thanks much - May God Bless
P.S. I was hoping to catch a glimpse of the skunk driving in a car that someone mentioned in the log about a year or two ago. I was wondering... what was he driving? See 10/12/02

It is so hard to leave this place. The sights, sounds and smells of the woods, the fireplace, the hills - so beautiful, so soothing. The cabin is a delight. We made cookies one day. Enjoyed Cave Creek even though it was already a little cool. Spent a great day at Richland Creek - hiked all the way to Twin Falls. The creek bed was unusualy dry, but there was water at the falls and a beautiful pool.
"Way Back in the Hills" is a wonderful window on the history and character of Newton County.
We'd love to come back. Thanks for sharing this stunning place.

As I arrived I saw a cozy cabin, but when I entered I saw a magnificent palace. Another sight I saw was who was named in a previous passage, Bob, the deer head. We saw about 5 elk on the trip and hope to see even more on my way home. Unnamed child...

We really enjoyed the cabin and the woods. The creek was nice, just a little cool. We came for a quick get-a-way and that is just what is was "quick." Two days are just not enough to enjoy the relaxing setting to its fullest. Hope to find time to come again. Maybe the winter would be nice. I loved the woods as a child in Florida and this brought the memories of my childhood back. You have a wonderful place. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for letting us stay here. We saw 3 deer. And one of the deer was a baby fawn. It was very cute seeing it run around and jump. Nate

Just want to say that we really appreciate you guys for letting us stay in your home. We had an awesome time. It was great to get away from everything. The best time was when we were trying to figure out how to get down to the creek. We spent about an hour going through the woods debating on which route would be the safest down to the creek. We finally gave up when we realized the only way down was to jump off a 500 ft cliff. So then we came up and drove around for a bit. We were unsure when we saw a road (that we thought might lead down to the creek) but it had a no trespassing sign. So we came up and we were just fixing to call to figure it out and thats when we read the book. And what do you know - instructions on how to get to the creek. Wow, that was a laugh. Anyways, the creek was beautiful. We all had a great time down there. Thank you once again. We had a blast.

Took a couple of nights & days but finally began to appreciate the solitude - now if my/our cell phones had just been left at home!
Kept wondering why on earth anyone would build such a nice place so -o-o far from the main road - still working on that but beginning to appreciate as our 4th night has concluded.
What joy we had on night 2 lazing on the patio and looking up to the heavens - saw four shooting stars - what a treat!
Saw 5 falling stars, satellites, never seen so many! Incredible!
Saw 2 female elk, several deer, quail, rabbits, frogs - numerous chiggers and grandson (5) is covered in seed ticks (beware - alsohol seems to help).
Enjoyed the are area beneath the bridge (before turn off main road - Carver Input) - we were the only people there -next day we went to Jasper (actually Pruitt) where water and cliffs were deeper and higher - had hoped to see Stillwater area outside Jasper but no time. Drove over to Eureka Springs our last day (didn't want little one to get more ticks & chiggers). Not quite as I remember it - love Thorncrown Chapel - afraid to risk the drive back here to see the night time Passion Play.
Thanks for allowing us to share your home away from home - a whole new experience for us, but one we grew to emensely enjoy - Arkansas has vast areas to explore and enjoy - so different here than Eastern part (flat and cotton and beans).
Expecially liked the porch - just super. David and Carole Ann

Wonderful Seclusion! The cabin was so welcoming and clean when we arrived - my son, John David (5 1/2) thinks this is the "coolest" place on earth! Thanks for providing the lodgings for a great family getaway. Christy

7-11-04 Sunday

Arrive at about 5 p.m. Cabin is definately secluded and good thing for the odometer readings on the directions! Took a walk (1.3 miles) to Cave Creek. Water was high or appeared to be. Had heavy rain coming in on the drive. Creek was muddy. Cabin was clean and roomy.

7-12-04 Monday

Found a store to get fuel and milk. Went for a morning walk and saw one 6 point buck about 1/4 mile north of the gate. Made the trek back to Cave Creek w/2 kids and 2 poles. Saw lots of fishes, hooked none! 6-year old fell in so fishing became sitting and splashing. Water level had dropped and water cleared up a bit. Drove to Buffalo River and Jasper.

7-13-04 Tuesday

Went swimming at Carver Input of Buffalo. Water was great. Saw 2 snakes swimming around and a lot of fish. Stayed almost 3 hours skipping rocks and finding shells. Popular swimming area for local families and easy to go to. Took a long evening walk around the cabin area.

7-14-04 Wednesday

Drove to Eureka Springs (2 hours) and had lunch at Bubba's BBQ. Pork plate and sliced beef the best options - ribs a little tough. Bubba's was written up in Southern Living magazine as a good eatery. Not much there except food, motels, food, motels, food and some small shops. Stopped at Bob's on the way back to get some stuff. Got back about 5 and played games/watched Andy on VCR! Not much walking today. Cabin A/C worked well in heat and provided comfortable relief, wish the trees in back were thinned a bit to better expose the view. Enjoying the solitude and peace out here and sleep hard each night! Read through this book and noticed one name I knew and others that live close by to us. I am enjoying the cabin and love the way it is laid out. Wish it was cold enough to fire up the fireplace. 2 good things to bring here are 4-wheelers and kayaks as they would be used daily! would like to explore more of the roads but Dodge mini-van just doesn't quite cut it.

7-15-04 Thursday

Slept in a little long then had some bacon and eggs and off to Mystic Caverns on route 7 in Marble Falls (35+ miles). Caverns ($11.95 - adults $5.95 kids 13 & under) for about 4 hours total w/drive time. Smaller cave virtually untouched and looks great. Larger cave is damaged from prohibition days when it was used for liquor and parties. Cool inside but not cold, nice 1/2 day trip. Heavy rain came in about 4. Saw 1 deer on way out and 2 deer by this white house w/green shutters. Rain sounds great on metal roof and porch provides great place to sit and watch the rain. After it cleared some burgers and hot links followed by smores! Still wish it was cool enough to use the fireplace!

7-16-04 Friday

Rain, wind, rain - headed out. Had a good time. Loved the cabin, comfortable, clean and neat, stocked well with linens, towels, etc! Thanks. Have a great summer. P.S. The book, "Way Back in the Hills" was excellent!

Cave Creek Cabin

This is one of the coolest cabins I've been to since a long time. On our first day we saw three elk. That was cool. And the creek is so nice. But we had to be careful because of the snakes. But I mean it from the bottom of my heart, nothing can beat this cabin. I'm not really a wildlife girl, but when I stayed here for a while the bugs got me alot. But it was worth it. Oh, and watch out for red bugs during the summer.
P.S. I'm hoping we'll be back. Alaina (age 10)

We arrived early and got to meet the houskeeper and her husband. I learned that he was born and raised on Cave Creek and, in fact, owns most of the surrounding acreage. Also met one of his sons who also owns adjoining land. What was most striking was to realize that we are mere visitors and they are the keepers of the land and traditions here.
I love reading, and especially about places I live or visit. The book, "Way Back in the Hills," was a jewel and I wish I had read it prior to coming here. All the other books put this entire area into a better perspective of place and time. Being born and raised in the South, I treasure areas like this. I laugh at people who make fun of Arkansas (having lived in Arkansas before for +25 years gives me the right!) and advise them to stay away. I love the Ozark and Ouachita mountains and want to keep them our "secret."
The favorite feature of the cabin is the porch. I enjoyed having the whip-poor-wills serenade me at night, to the glow of the fireflies and join me for my first cup of coffee before dawn.
My son Wyatt (born in Little Rock) celebrated his 9th birthday here. He and his little brother, Seth, learned to use slingshots, find fossils and explore and fish Cave Creek. It is my hope thay they learn to love and respect areas and peoples like these.
We couldn't bring ourselves to make pictures, preferring to take memories of: wind in the trees, crows over the valley, water bubbling in the creek, tree covered bluffs, clean/cool air. Thanks for the great facility to enjoy this. P.S. The water made better coffee than the bottled water!

What a wonderful hidden surprise at the end of an adventurous ride! The cabin, woods and creek were our own little private paradise for two beautiful days. Our two grown boys enjoyed the private fishing. They saw four deer, turkeys, rabbits, and water moccasins (beware).
Our grandchildren (10, 8, 5) loved the swimming hole and had fun catching crawdads, lizards and baby toads. Grandad and I loved the early mornings on the porch. All in all, a splendid time was had by all.

Well, here we are. We have arrived from a four-hour drive to the cabin, and boy was it worth it! The cabin is beautiful; especially the loft! Later that day we went to the creek. It was a nice hike! We saw a deer running by as we walked there. Earlier on we had seen 21. Once we got there I jumped in and swam with Maddy. The water came up to my neck. It was really fun! There were some big fish and giant mutated tadpoles. When we got back we named the deer head on the wall Bob. Good ol' Bob. Rosemary

Big treat tonight - we turned off all the outside and most inside lights and stargazed on the patio. Amazing! Can't do that in the city. After that nailbiter of a drive up the mountain, we are ready to turn in! L.

Day 2

Spent the day canoeing on the Buffalo - Tyler to Gilbert - lots of fun - and what a joy to come back to such a comfortable & secluded cabin. My favorite view is sitting dead center on the top step of the patio and looking to the left - mountain, after mountain, after mountain. L.

Well, canoeing was awesome. We stopped at some great swimming holes along the river. The view up here is awesome. Saw 3 deer yesterday and many rabbits. We saw a large toad tonight :o There are loads of small fossils in the rocks around the cabin. Maddy

We went canoeing on Buffalo River today. It was great! We swam some too - it was really cool! I liked playing in the rapids. The rapids were my favorite part. Rosemary

Day 3 (6/18/04)

We slept in... very tired from the Buffalo River canoe trip the day before. Cooked a "big" breakfast; bacon, waffles and a large pot of coffee! Everything tastes better at Cave Creek Cabin.
After breakfast we hiked down to Cave Creek and found a great swimming hole to the "left" of the trail. After a couple of hours of swimming and exploring, we headed back to the cabin because we were hungry and a thunderstorm was approaching. Made it back before the rain and the tuna fish sandwiches were outstanding! Mark

On the first day we saw 3 deer, and I was going to draw one, but never got the chance, so here :)
Drawings of deer and turkey by Maddy were very good (management comment)

Last Day (6/19/04)

The weather has changed to cloudy and 69 degrees. Feels like we skipped Summer and went straight to Fall.
It has been a wonderful 3 days at Cave Creek Cabin. From the first day when a hummingbird buzzed around the kitchen window greeting us to our last night of stargazing and marshmallow toasting, everything has been perfect. We have enjoyed the quiet seclusion and marvelled at the skill of the craftsmen who so lovingly restored this beautiful old cabin. We take with us warm memories of our stay here in the Ozarks. L.

Its time to load-up the Volvo Wagon and head back to Memphis. We are taking back memories that will last a lifetime. Mark

Bye Bob, Gertrude, George, Omnigrip, Poll and Erwin. Bye Cave Creek! We'll be back! Maddy

We had a very pleasant, peaceful time here. Thanks for sharing your place with us. We searched for squirrels and deer and elk and bear without success. Dad says in the winter you could see the whole valley (hint, hint). A squirrel feeder slightly off the hill would entice the avid creatures to watch (hint, hint). The first night I renamed the place "Whipperwill holler, holler, holler" which we truly enjoyed. Looking forward to a return trip. Dad thinks this is the place to enjoy tranquility and long afternoon naps on the porch. Thanks for the memories -Beautiful Cabin - Mom wants to move it home.

My husband, Victor, found this place during one of his escapes to Arkansas on the net. We always go to a cabin on anniversaries and birthdays and have seen many marvelous places. Cave Creek certainly goes into the list of those special retreats that we would like to return to. I love the spaciousness of this cabin. The view from the kitchen window is so spellbinding. It was cool and rainy but we still enjoyed the porch as much as possible. Vic happily found plenty of smallmouth bass at the stream so he had a smile on his face.
The fireplace is everything previous visitors have said, and we had the kind of weather that fires were made for! One suggestion; a big comfy couch to enjoy the fire by.
Thanks.

I can't put in words how special this has been for me and my lady. This cabin is done so nicely and simple and is as cozy as can be. I would have to say that the fireplace is the foremost highlight of the cabin, well maybe the tub,or maybe the kitchen... although, the bedroom is quite enjoyable as well. I really don't want to go back to the hectic city life, but places like this really remind you that life really is simple. I want to thank you for giving us the opportunity to share your warm and comfy cabin. We really decided to head to a cabin one day, got a call back that night, and left the next morning, not really knowing what to expect and not really caring either, just get out of the city! The drive was tricky 'cause it got dark before we arrived. When we pulled up it was cold and wet from rain and we could see that the light was left on for us and when we opened the door we almost cried. The place was very clean and was beyond what we had hoped for. All I wanted was a fireplace and a kitchen. We didn't expect to discover the most beautiful cabin with such wonderful decor. We unloaded the groceries, started a fire and drank a bottle of wine by the fire. When we woke up, it was like Christmas morning, running to see what it looked liked outside. Amazing! This is the most beautiful land, we even saw a bald eagle New Year's Day, today! No one will believe how amazing this place is,and I am very grateful to have been a part of it. Thank you for the great books and games, they were fun and informative. Thank you to the Formica Family, Paula and Joann for everything, I will never forget the special place.

We loved the cabin. Thanks for sharing it. Our family's roots are in Newton County (Davis). We visited the Newton County Library which had a fabulous geneology department.I (Becky) found that my paternal great-great grandparents were born here in the Deer/Nail area. My mother's family migrated here after the depression and we found their old homestead. The owner gave us a tour and my grandfather's barn still stands as I remember it. The old spring is almost dry but still there. It's been wonderful to share this with my daughters who are almost grown (26 & 17).We decided that between my husband and me having the most backwoods roots, I win! Will be back.

We had a lovely time in this beautiful place. We even got to see a bear cub on our last evening here. What a treat!
The creek was a lot of fun too. Just a few things to beware of - splinters in the floors, chiggars (of course),and we did have a run-in with a T-post by the creek wrapped with barbed wire that was completely hidden by the grown up weeds and vines (scratched the side of our new van), but we got over it. We exposed the post, but watch out should the weeds grow back!
Mornings on the porch were a favorite of mine. The birds were very chattery. There is also a nice selection of nature books. We learned a lot about the birds, trees, history and an assortment of other topics. Thanks for a beautiful vacation.

There is some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever encountered in this area. We loved the cabin. (Next time we'll know that Hwy 74 and 123 intersect at more than one place and that a Cadillac is not the best mode of transportation.)

Memorable adventure!! A beautiful setting for our mother-son canoe trip down the Buffalo.
