In the 8 years we have stayed in Maine none can come close to the truthfullness of this house. Clean and COMFORTABLE HOME!!!! Lots of room to move about and lots of privacy, one home next door but far enough away. We had a great week every night was a star night and from the hot tub you can see the stars. Oh one more thing the grill is star quality! Thank you John for a nice week, our dogs are still recovering.... GREAT HOUSE GREAT VACATION!!!

My family and I stayed at Great Moose Lake house
for a week in July. We had an amazing time. The
house was very comfortable and the view was just
amazing. There were tons of amenities for us to
enjoy such as the kayaks, paddle boat, gazebo, hot
tub, boat and fishing poles and a fully stocked
kitchen. We took a couple day trips out to Acadia
Nat'l Park which was beautiful. This was my first
time in Maine and I would definitely return as it is
truly a gorgeous state. Thank you John, for
providing such a gorgeous house for us to enjoy a
week of fun and relaxation.

We just returned from one of the best vacations ever! We spent the last week with our daughter and her family vacationing at Great Moose Lake and we couldn't have had more fun. The home was spacious and well furnished and its setting on the lake was absolutely spectacular. Our daughter and son-in-law along with the kids (our grandkids) enjoyed fishing (first time for the kids and our daughter - they caught quite a few fish - very exciting), kayaking, canoeing, the hot tub and diving off the raft. We (my wife and I) enjoyed the plontoon boat, the gazebo, the deck, as well as paddleboating and canoeing. There was something for every age to enjoy. In the evening we enjoyed board games, (really great family time) and watching the movies (provided at the home) plus the Direct TV. We looked forward each morning to sitting on the deck and enjoying a cup of morning coffee with our daughter and son-in-law. It was so peaceful and serene. The sun rises over the lake and it is a sight to behold, as is the night sky with the stars and planets all aglow. We had a wonderful time to say the least and we look forward to coming again. This was truly a wonderful experience. Thank you.

P.S. We had a couple of questions and one request and Gary was wonderful.

I tell ya, following that dirt road around Moose Lake, the anticipation grew and grew. When we finally approached the house, WOW…..absolutely gorgeous home and surroundings.
Usually when you view a vacation home on the internet, you see only the prime area’s and key attractions of the property. But what they don’t normally show you are the few unmentioned faults or disappointments. Not here. John has done a superb job on the website to give a preview, but pictures cannot describe the entire ambiance. I can guarantee you that when you walk through the door for the fist time and proceed through the house and continue out onto the front deck, you’ll be amazed. After settling in, we only needed to leave to pick up more gas for the boat and jet ski. I normally try to sleep a little later on the weekends and vacation (although it is tough with 4 children) but found myself crawling out of bed hours earlier than the norm to sit on the deck and just enjoy the views. I grew up in the city, so this was not a common site for me. My four children had an absolute blast……not once did I hear the words “I’m board”!! We were able to get some incredible photos from the week that we will cherish forever, and even used a few in our Christmas card. Great fun and memories to share for a lifetime, isn’t that what it’s all about? Thanks for everything John.

We LOOOOOVE! coming to Hartland and staying in John's house. We will be returning for our THIRD year this coming September. We have a large family, and the house accomodates us perfectly. There are tons of amenities at the house. Gazebo (my favorite) the one man kayak (well, my other favorite) a two man kayak, a canoe, great sound system, very well stocked kitchen, beautiful grounds, chairs, swing, bbq, sheets, GREAT blankets, GREAT pillows, GREAT mattresses....I could go on and on. We love to walk, hike, get out on the lake, hear the loons (nothing comparable...we imitate them all year long!) go to the fun little grocery store for a great cup of coffee, talk to Gary the great neighbor...I could go on and on. You must believe that this is a great deal, a great vacation, and a great landlord OR would we drive with six kids all the way from South Carolina to do it?? :) I will close with saying that John not only provides and shares his awesome home, but he has proven to be a friend to us as well. He shared prayer with us this last year when one of our daughters was deathly ill in a PICU...this guy is just tops. Book now! You will not regret it! (I can't wait till September!!!!) Thanks John! Your devoted Maine groupies.... Denise H. for the family :)

This is a beautiful place. The only downside staying there was my wife asking "Why can't our place be this nice?" And yes, we're repeat customers.

If you like scenic, quiet, and comfy, this is an excellent choice. John is a great guy to deal with too.

Perfection! If peace and quiet along with clean water and air, and the sounds of nature lulling you to sleep is not your idea of a perfect vacation then you should probably consider Disneyworld.

Moose Lake House and Great Moose Lake expertly capture the rhythms of small-town Maine. The house is bright and engaging and John goes out of his way to make sure everything anyone needs is available. We were there off-season so it was exceptionally quiet; however, I understand from the locals that even during season it is still very peaceful. Trust me; there is something for all ages. Whether it is taking walks, enjoying the lake or just hanging out in the hammock, this is the place!

Many thanks to John for sharing Moose Lake House!

We brought our three kids (ages 7,4 and 11 months) to Great Moose Lake this year for vacation. In spite of the rainy, cloudy weather we had a great time! Since the house was so comfortable and had X-box and DirectTV, it didn't matter when we had to stay indoors. The boys and their dad did lots of fishing off the dock and caught some pretty big fish. We all swam a little in the lake. Our 7 year old's favorite activity was diving for mud mussels to use as bait on his fishing rod. We also spent a lot of time in the hot tub. One day we drove to Lincolnville to visit the beach. The small beach was perfect for the kids to play on. Headed to Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast for lobster dinners. The steamers were probably the best we have ever eaten, and we have eaten a lot of steamers in Maine, prior to this trip! Yummy! Closer to the house, we had great pizza at the House of Pizza in Newport. The place doesn't look like much when you drive up but the pizza was delicious! A few hours before we left, we saw an eagle fly off from the dock railing with a fish in its' claws. Pretty amazing! Hope to head back next year to see what the place is like in the sunshine!

This was our first visit to Moose Lake, and we all absolutely loved it! We are a family of four and a couple of our kids friends came on vacation with us. The house is naturally beautiful, and large enough for everyone to have their own space. The house was very welcoming, clean and relaxing. The views of the lake are absolutely beautiful. The fishing was fun as were the water sports. We would definately recommend this lovely lake house and nature environment for anyone looking "to get away from it all".

My husband and I stayed here the first week of October for our honeymoon. We could not have asked for a more relaxing place to be. After all the stress of planning the wedding we needed a week of relaxation and that is exatly what we got. Definately renting again next year. The house is beautiful, yet comfortable. You really feel at home from the moment you walk in. Thanks for a great honeymoon!!

Hi John,
We spent a week at your home on Great Moose Lake and just wanted you to know that we loved it. The home is beautifully appointed with all of the creature comforts that we could have wanted! Just off of the property though is the wild Maine that we all come here for! We had a very relaxing, enjoyable vacation and we are so looking forward to doing it again!

We just returned from the BEST vacation we have ever taken. We were at the lake house the last week of Sept.2007. we had 6 adults, and 3 children. From the moment we started driving on Pond Rd., I knew we were set for a great vacation! As we pulled in the driveway I thought..."oh yeah!!!" The house was better equipped than any home, condo, or cabin we have ever rented. It is so large and roomy. The outside...well, what could go wrong? Leaves, sun, breeze, canoe, kayaks, paddleboat, hot tub, and oh yes..the gazebo!! We sat on the deck and gazed at the lake. I took over 700 pictures if that tells you anything. We went to Acadia one day, but stayed at the house the rest of the time. We took a great walk in the woods on logging trails for two hours. Gary, the neighbor, was great. He took us out on a long boat ride. John has though of everything!! We felt that we were at a home away from home. We will be coming back, and will count the days until we do. By the way, you MUST go to the Sunrise Cafe! I guess you can see that I recommend this property!!! As E.B. White said, "I would really rather feel bad in Maine than good anywhere else." Well, we didn't feel bad, we felt awesome. But, Maine...well, I wish we could live there! Thanks again, John!!!! :O)

This was our first family vacation in eons, so we really wanted it to be special. WE WERE BLOWN AWAY! The kitchen was huge--a real pleasure to cook in. The wood everywhere inside the house was GORGEOUS. All the amenities, yet relaxed. The mist coming up off the lake in the morning, MAGICAL. We have several young children, all of whom loved exploring different corners of the yard, swimming, and playing X-Box in the basement... The owner has plenty of life jackets...Cool pontoon, kayak...The setting is private, lush, and not rustic in any negative sense (as a mom, you want to feel like you can have a vacation, too... big bathrooms you could practically dance in, laundry facilities spacious and clean... I can't recommend it more highly). Dads will enjoy the easy chair, the plasma TVs, the jacuzzi, not to mention the fishing. We've already booked next year, only for two weeks instead of one. God blessed this little corner of Maine for us.

We've stayed at John's Moose Lake house for a week in August for three straight years, and can't think of a better summer vacation. The house, the area, the lake, the amenities, all are incredible. And John is great to rent from. If you want a relaxing week away, this is the place to decompress and collect wonderful memories.

One word describes it all...amazing.

We wanted a weekend to get away with some friends to kick back and relax and we got exactly that...and more! The second we turned into the driveway and noticed the view of the lake we all pretty much said "okay, we don't ever want to leave!"

John (the owner) is extremely accommodating and will make sure you have everything you need to make your stay perfect. There was plenty of space for our party and plenty to do (and not do!) to make our stay perfect.

If it’s relaxing on the floating dock or taking the canoe or paddle boat out on the lake; or grilling up some burgers and ‘dogs and lounging around on the porch with a book during the day. Or if it’s relaxing in the hot tub or stargazing at night...to name a few...there’s something for everyone.

And don’t forget to check out the Oak Pond Brewery!

Although the pictures on the website are beautiful, they do not do justice until you see it and experience it for yourself!

Thanks again to John, we all had an amazing time. We’ll definitely be coming back soon!

We spent a wonderful week at MooseLake House and it couldn't have been more comfortable. The house has everything you could want to do-or do nothing at all!We took the pontoon boat out on days without a cloud in the sky and days when it never got above 40 degrees and sleet fell on the deck! The fish continued to bite through it all! We managed to catch a total of 106 fish on our 4 separate trips out in the boat-and all on artificial lures! We saw loons, osprey, ducks, muskrat, beaver, and kingfishers on the lake.Rabbits, red and grey squirrels, and grouse around the property.Chickadees, goldfinch, bluejay, sparrows, grosbeak, and hummingbirds on the feeders. We loved the hot tub and the comfy beds! If it hadn't rained 4 out of 7 days it would have been even better!Oh well, maybe next time! John, thanks for making our first trip to Miane so memorable! I can’t say enough good things about Moose Lake House. From the moment you arrive at this property, the decompression process begins. The home is well kept, open and light. The décor/furnishings give it an especially comfortable feel. The large windows offer a beautiful view of the lake from all levels of the house. John has clearly put much thought and effort into ensuring that his guests have all those “little things” that make the difference, both inside the house, and out. I have had the pleasure of staying at this home both in the spring season, as well as the winter season. Regardless of the season or the reason for your visit, this vacation home can not disappoint. “Maine (and Moose Lake House), the way life should be”!

Wonderful! Just returned from a great week spent with a group (6 adults, 3 kids (3, 11 & 15). We had 2 rainy days at the start but the house is so comfortable with so much room we didn't mind. The Master BR (which I took dibs on) is beautiful. The pix really don't do the house justice--it was much larger than I had expected and it couldn't be more private! The lake is so gorgeous---I got up at 4:30-5:00 every a.m. and got some beautiful sunrises as the fog lifted off. His neighbor Gary was great---stopped by for a chat and a few days later took some of our group on his boat for a tour of the lake. We saw loons and an eagle in his nest! With a dog and a toddler day trips were out but a great place to poke around and not too far away is Country Creations (it's back near 95 where Shop & Save is); lots of crafty things and the BEST fudge! The guys in our group visited a nearby home microbrewery John had told us about---some really good beer. John is wonderful to work with and very accommodating; would def. rent from him again.

Moose Lake House is a first class act, from the web site-which is the most informative I have run across, the house more than lives up to it's photo's, and John provides the human touch--what a great place for some peaceful relaxation. The full moon on the lake was worth the trip alone! We would recommend this home to anyone looking for a relaxing time-away from the hustle and bustle of crowded beaches, loud hotels, and expensive tourist traps. Definitely a place we will return to--thanks John! Susan and Ron

We had such a wonderful time at the Great Moose Lake house--even our Otterhound, Jaxson hated to leave after two glorious weeks! The house, the yard, the views and all the furnishings are so comfortable we felt like it was our very own get-away. Absolutely nothing was missing. It was quiet and secluded...just the sound of the loons on the lake. Perfect. And the stars--unbelievable. There were even lots of shooting stars. John was just the best host...answered all questions and was more than accomodating. Thank you, John, for offering such a great place and keeping it special.

We've been renting places in Central and Coastal Maine for about 10 years now. This was by far the most complete and clean setup that we've experienced to date. "Everything" seems to be there, and at a fair price. The boats, hot tub, satelite dish, and other nicities were a great supplement to our vacation. It proved to be a great place to relax and read, explore on the lake, do some fishing from the dock, or take some daytrips to nearby attractions. John couldn't be nicer or more accomodating. Even this Yankee fan enjoyed watching the Red Sox on NESN with the rest of our household of Red Sox Nation citizens. Thanks for the great location to host our family vacation.

Our group, which ranged in age from 2 months to 67 years, thoroughly enjoyed our restful week in this gorgeous home. The kids caught 15 little fish off the dock, many of us spent peaceful hours in the kayaks and canoe, and this crowd of enthusiastic cooks particularly appreciated the well-stocked kitchen. (And I must admit that the kids did spent a few hours on the X-box after being in the sun most of the day!) The lake is remote enough to feel isolated and away from the world, but close enough to the coast and other attractions to provide variety.

John, you have an amazing house. For my 30th Birthday, May 16th, my beautiful fiancee Stacey rented your Mooselake House for a long weekend. Three of my friends from high school, along with their significant others, made the trek from Boston, Ottawa and New York City. If they had any reservations about the drive, once they arrived they couldn't have been happier. As great as all the pictures look on the website, they don't do the house justice. Although I didn't speak with you directly, I can't thank you enough for being as accomadating and gracious as you were with Stacey during the reservation process. A big thanks for getting NESN up there as well. There were eight of us that went up there and now there are eight of us that can't wait to go back. Thank you again for your hospitality! Tim G.

We wanted to vacation in an out-of-the-way location and we got it. The house is very nice and comfortable. It is also well-maintained. The view from the deck and from the loft in the house is magnificent. The lake is the bluest blue and the surrounding hills were spectacular. If you are a kayaker, the lake is great to go out and explore. If you are in need of some shopping areas, Freeport is only 90 minutes and Bar Harbor is about the same. And you have a Walmart Superstore (with lobsters) only 20 minutes away in Newport. The year-rounders are friendly and will stop and chat. And yes, we would rent again in a heartbeat. Oh, yeah, what the owner says about the darkest night skies is absolutely true. The stars are beautiful and if you are lucky enough to get a full moon over the lake, make sure you have your camera.

John, Nancy and I had a great time at your lake house. We even had time to ride to the Canadian border on Scenic Route 201, visit the Maine coast at Belfast and even hit Olgonquit Beach on the way home. We knew we were back in civilization when we spent and hour and a half crossing the GW Bridge in NYC. I really enjoyed kayaking on the lake despite the temperature in the 50s and low 60s. Rich
