This 4th visit to Molokai was our first time staying at the Villas. We LOVED your cozy home with the wild turkeys on the lawn in the day and the nightly visits by the skittery axis deer. The beautiful and quality furnishings and things were comfortable and the washer and dryer in the unit convenient. The water filter saved us money on bottled water. The atmosphere was comforting and relaxing. Great little place to hang out.

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely home. It was very comfortable and the lani was perfect for morning coffee. We will certainly return to this spot when we come back to Molokai!

We loved the condo, the fact that we looked right out onto the ocean, the extras like lawn chairs, backpack, beach blanket. We liked the comfortable furnishings, dishes, kichen and the deck. We felt very at home, everything was in order and all your info was great. We didn't have to spend a lot of time finding out what to do as you had everything listed.
We loved the slow pace of Molokai, even finding it hard at home to adjust to the pace of running a business. We even looked at land there and plan to go back next year to your condo and check out prices again. We hiked down to the Kalapapa leper colony which was very beautiful, hiked to the waterfall in Halava valley, went often to the coffe plantation in Kualapu for mocha mamas, to the detriment of our waistlines. We went everyday but 3 to Dixie Maru beach and loved it there. We toured all the art shops in Kanakakai and bought a few things. It was just enough to do, very relaxing and we could have still done the tours. We had the best vacation we've ever had there, like being in the country all the time. The people were all so friendly also. Thanks for everything.

We had a great time. Your condo was great....great view framed with palms, attractive wall coverings, and even chip bag clips We found Molokai friendly, beautiful, and, yes, low key. It was just right. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to rent your condo.

We particularly enjoyed walking the beach nearest the condo and the beaches just to the north. The swimming beach at the end of the road was a great place to swim and snorkel. The overlook of the former leper colony was scenic and the story was inspiring. We also enjoyed the drive, scenery, and beach at the end of the road on the east end. Our favorite eatery was the Cookhouse. The staff was “down home” friendly and the food was very good. The bakery, Sundown Deli, and Hotel were thumbs up as well. Based on our one meal, we do not recommend Paddlers. We enjoyed the friendly folks and stuff we bought at the Saturday Farmer’s Market, the week day afternoon Grower’s Market, and Kumu Farms. Molokai was like stepping back into the 1950s. Truly a great vacation place.

We enjoyed our stay in Molokai. The condo was clean upon our arrival. We enjoyed papaya in the morning on our (your) lanai and then drinks there again in the evening. We cooked our meals half the time "at home" and I met some of your fellow condo owners and some other guests in the barbecue area. This became a "male bonding" zone while we guys all tended to our grilling duties. Two evenings we enjoyed dinner and sunsets at Molokai Hotel while listening to Molokai musicians. On Wednesday nights there was more Molokai music at Paddlers' Restaurant and dinner there, too. A visit to Purdy's Macadamia Nut Farm provided us with an hour of entertainment and snacks for our lanai sunsets. You have a very nice place and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a Molokai escape.

Ellyn, Wanted to let you know we really enjoyed your lovely condo on Molokai. I really liked having the window slats which allow the lovely tropical breeze to blow through the condo. Listening to the birds and ocean on the lanai and in the bedroom was very soothing. We used the BBQ facilities many times and enjoyed preparing most of our own meals. We drove all over the island and saw all the highlights it has to offer. The weather was beautiful every day and having the beach almost to our self was quite a treat.

Happy New Year!

We had a wonderful time on Molokai. The condo was great, nice and clean, and not lacking in anything we needed. We absolutely loved the location, and were even dreaming of buying a condo there for ourselves. It was heaven to wake up to the sounds of the birds, and then take a long walk along the beach. We spent most of the rest of our time exploring the island, although we didn't end up taking any guided tours. The only thing we wanted to do that didn't work out was the snorkeling. We drove out to the east end of the island and looked at the waters around Mile 20, but the day we were there the water was choppy from the wind, and the water visibility looked near zero, so we didn't go in.

We really liked Dixie Maru beach , farther down the west coast of the island (at least we figured out later that it must be Dixie Maru). We also enjoyed exploring the area around Hale O Lono, on the south coast. The drive out through Maunaloa to the coast is nice. Next time we want to explore the Halawa Valley and maybe the area along the north coast by boat.

Molokai was a perfect place to relax, slow down, and appreciate the beauty of the island. I hope we'll go back soon.

We enjoyed Molokai very much. It is SO peaceful there. You condo was great - had everything we needed. Everything was clean, neat and very comfortable. You have a very nice place. Very organized "things to do" book as well - good advice. Wonderful picture album - good job. We rode the mules and that was definitely something NOT to miss. Hope to be back soon and we will most definitely check your condo availability 1st. Mahalo. Carla

The first couple of days were perfectly fine. It was very quiet and relaxing. On the third day is when the builders started the roofing project and we were awakened every morning at 7:30am to pounding and machines being turned on. The golf course was closed the entire time we were there. No biggie for us as we're not golfers. Didn't seem like there were alot of people there until the Saturday before we left (5/17/08). Then the people with the surfboards and other water sports appeared.

Our experience on Molokai wasn't what I thought it would be. There was very little to do so I was forced to relaxed (smiles). Something I don't do too much. I went shopping at the Kite Factory and I must say, Uncle Jonathan is a realy nice man. I did end up buying a few things at his store.

We probably won't be back to Molokai because it is a little too laid back for us. I like busy. We spent our first week in Oahu. We ended up buying a timeshare there and are able to trade to another island. So our plan is to visit all the islands and see which ones we really enoy and will go back too. We are planning a trip to Maui next year.

Thank you for your time and relaxing condo.

Sincerely,

Karen & Brad Brown

Note to readers: Kepuhi Beach Resort is undergoing a roofing project through the summer of 2008. All guests have been informed about this when they inquire about our property. We also do our best to make sure guests are aware of the "quiet" and relaxed lifestyle on Molokai so they are not unpleasantly surprised. If you are considering a visit to Molokai, we welcome the chance to share our experience and knowledge with you to help you determine if Molokai is the right island for you.

We did have a wonderful time on Molokai and your condo was a key ingredient to making our stay so enjoyable. We are currently in our last week on Kauai and just last night we commented that accommodations on Molokai were superior to our current lodging (which is nice as well). Everything we needed was there plus more and it was first class. Thanks to you and all your efforts to make a stay on Molokai first rate enjoyable.
Our only negative is that we wish we had booked a stay longer on Molokai. We found the people to be true to the slogan "Friendly people".

Until next time!

The condo was great, everything you advertised it as and more. The view is definitely nicer than the pictures lead one to believe, which was a real plus for us. The complex was very idyllic and my concerns about the "abandon" part of it were unfounded. The place was clean when we arrived.

The roofing was not an issue for us. They were working on a building behind us a few buildings away, so they did not disturb our enjoyment of the condo.

That's it. If we ever go back to Molokai we will certainly contact you. We loved our week there, it was just what we both needed. We had just the right balance between seeing the sites, golfing, and being on the beach. One of our favorite things that we did was go to "Aloha Friday" at the Molokai Hotel.

Thanks again for all of your help in planning our get away!

Warmly,
Eileen

Bob and I loved our time on Molokai and lucked out on the weather. Sunny and perfect with one HEAVY rain storm which we saw coming from the beach and lasted about 10 minutes. It was great.

Your condo is the 3rd we've rented in the Villas and by far the nicest and worth the extra money to have a washer/dryer and bedroom and just the right amount of dishes, furniture and doo-dahs.

The kitchen had everything one could want. The linens were nice cotton and we took the comforter off and used the cotton blankets which were just right.

We hope to come back in the next year or two.

We really just hung out in the condo playing scrabble and reading after walking a few hours to the beaches past Paniolo Hale and once on Papahaku. We've seen most of Molokai so this time we only left once to go to Halawa Valley. We cooked all our own meals and really rejuvenated from our Washington winter.

Thanks again for your lovely place and how smooth you made reservations, payment and all.

Cheers, DF

We had an amazing week on Molokai. Mahalo! Your condo is absolutely perfect...and I really mean that. You have obviously put a great deal of thought and effort into equipping the unit as we found everything we needed and more. We felt comfortable and at home. The games were an additional bonus and really enjoyed. The unit was immaculate when we arrived, so the people you have arranged for to come and tidy up are definitely doing their job! We loved every moment and found it difficult to leave.

Hi! I forgot to sign the guest book and I apologize for that......the condo was
more than we expected....it was beautiful and very clean......I can't think of
anything else you could have added to make the stay any more
comfortable......your directions were right on...and the view was
overwhelming....we enjoy nightly walks around the area and the people we
met were very friendly.

The hula festival was great.....since we were there to redo a grave site I got to
actually go to the blessing of the hula ( my student was born on Molokai) at 1
am....yes, in the morning....we were also introduced to an event by her aunt
that you may not know about.....at 10 p.m. behind the bakery ... you go down
the alley that's to the right, about 70 feet and on the left you will see a light
down a dark walkway ( this was a little scary) but there were about 20 people
waiting in line..... you knock on the door and they take orders for 2 loaves (
this is how it comes) of bread filled with a selection of different fillings ( we
got cream cheese and strawberries) it takes a few minutes but when they
bring it out, its warm and delicious....we did that several nights.

When we arrived on Maui, we have a time share, we met with the rep who
handled our unit and we were talking about the bread thing and I hope you
don't mind but since Marriott has nothing on Molokai I gave him one of your
cards that I had with me.

Thank you for allowing us to use your condo and you were a pleasure to deal
with...one of these days we will be in touch again.....Nancy

Hi Ellyn, Our stay on Molokai was absolutely wonderful! We loved it! The
Condo was very comforable and clean. We had no problems at all. We were
going to contact you when we got home and let you know how much we
enjoyed it there and we will be going back. In fact we are probably planning
to go back around the same time next year! We were in Kauai for 9 days after
Molokai and enjoyed your condo much more than the one next to the
Pricecville resort. Thank you so much! We wrote in your guest book at the
condo also and have told all our friends how great it was! We'll be in touch.

We very much enjoyed our time at Molokai. We have been to all the other
Hawaiian Islands and found Molokai to suit us the best. The friendly people
(locals and most visitors), the uncrowded beaches, the nice golf course, the
empty "resort", the friendly kitties and turkeys and the ease of getting around
all are what we looked for in a vacation in Hawaii. Too bad it took us so long
to finally find it! We will be back without a doubt. We may however be
neighbors instead of renters, we will see!
The condo was clean when we arrived although we ran out of dishwasher
soap after one load. Other than that we found the kitchen to be well stocked.
For activities we did the tour with Lawrence to Halawa Valley and really
enjoyed his comments and perspective. We hiked the Kalupapa trail down
and back (slightly sore the next day) and were amazed at the views and the
difficult conditions the residents had to endure. The snorkeling at 20 mile
beach was not good as it was too windy. Beach time near the condo was
much better. It did not rain on us at all, unusual based on our other Hawaii
experiences. I played golf twice and thought the course was very pretty and a
tough test especially in the wind.
I think from my rather long commentary you can see that we managed to
relax and enjoy the beautiful setting.
I appreciate you asking for feedback.
Cheers & Mahalo,

Not only was this the best part of our vacation to Hawaii, it was the best weekend of our lives! We arrived Friday afternoon and proceeded to town where we found Outpost Natural Foods, small and rustic but a fresh supply of LOCAL organic produce brought in by the farmers. Friendly Market was next, where we found fresh fish and everything else we needed. The villa had all that we needed to prepare our meals to perfection. Food never tasted so good as sitting on the Lanai, listening to Kenny G and watching the waves crash in on the beach! Saturday, we went on the mule ride to visit Father Damien's leper colony. Great trip, fun guides, spectacular views! well worth the time and $. We were supposed to leave Sunday but just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. Sitting down by the beach at night watching the waves, moon and stars was so peaceful we couldn't give it up. Tom and Ellyn were great to wotk with us and we called and changed our flights and rental car arrangements so we could stay another night. Sunday, we went on the guided tour of Halawa Valley into Moaula Falls. The drive alone was worth the cost of our vacation, but the hike through the rain forest and the history of all those that lived there through the years was an experience that enriched our lives. WE WILL NEVER FORGET IT! We were moved to tears more than once as we stood on ground that was sacred to those who loved, shared, and enjoyed life here for so long. Swimming in the pool at the bottom of the falls was beyond description. Our battery went dead in the camera, so we have no pictures of the valley or the falls. We took this as a sign that we were supposed to come back... (already in the plans :)! We stopped on the way out and had to take a moment to thank GOD for making such a beautiful place and honoring us by letting us experience it. This is private property and you will need to schedule a guide at the Fish and Dive shop in town. I guess I could write a book about all that we enjoyed, but short on space. We laughed about rush hour (we passed one car), and just enjoyed the quiet, laid-back life that is the norm to the natives. If you prefer noise, pollution, traffic jams and faced paced hectic living, you probably won't like it here. If you need some true peace, rest, and enjoy seeing spectacular views of God's creation that you'll never see anywhere else, start planning a trip to Molokai now. From all that we saw on the island, you won't find a nicer and more beautiful place to stay than Tom & Ellyns Getaway. They are wonderful people to deal with, and their villa is so comfortable, clean, and full of everything you'll need to enjoy your stay. Lots of books, games, CD's and a wonderful "silent host" guide book with all the information you will need to enjoy a taste of "true life" on Molokai. We are blessed to enjoy "Life more abundant" every day...but our trip to Tom and Ellyn's Getaway was a highlight of our life that will be cherished forever!

Ellyn, I have never rented a unit that was so well
equipped. The kitchen cooking equipment and dishes
were far above the quality usually found in rentals.
Nothing was lacking.

Most important to me was the fact that the condo was
as advertised. Frequently listings are embellished.
Everything was as described. The view from the lanai
surpassed anything I expected.

Prospective renters also can feel confident that they
will get efficient and helpful response from you.
That is a concern when dealing over the internet when
you know nothing about the person with whom you are
dealing. That, of course, works both ways. You can't
know who or what you are dealing with. I hope most of
your experiences have been positive.

We had a wonderful time in Molokai over xmas, the condo was situated in a perfect spot for viewing the sunset over the sea and was very private. It was also very clean with all the necessary facilities we needed. The 2 minute walk to the beach was great, particularly as we went bodyboarding at kepuhi beach with the local surfers. We also went on the kayaking, snorkelling and halawa falls trips organised by Molokai Fish & Dive which were great, particularly the snorkelling where we went out on a boat to the reef and saw a huge manta ray & giant turtle! One thing to be aware of is the Halawa falls hike is not really a hike but a cultural tour so if you are energetic like us it was a bit tedious stopping every 5 minutes to listen to the guide rather than having a great energy expending walk! Most of the beaches we went to round the island were deserted which was a luxury! We ate at the molokai ranch one night which served very good food. All in all we had an amazing holiday and would highly recommend the 1161 condo and molokai for a perfect getaway from hectic life!

This is a very nice place to stay and the location is great. The best food option was the Molokai Ranch who had a good selection of food. This resort was very peacefull and quiet. The rooms were very nice and the lanai was very nice and had a nice view of the ocean. The whole island was quiet and everyone was very friendly. Next time we are on this island we will stay here again.

We had a great time in Molokai and enjoyed our stay at your condo. The
condo was easy to find and it felt like we'd come "home". It was clean, bright
and airy. I loved the shutters. It was very roomy for the two of us. Upon our
arrival, we spent some time exploring the grounds; we headed up the hill
through the golf course (another great suggestion by Ellyn) and found
ourselves overlooking the 3-mile beach.

My boyfriend played a round of 18-hole golf one morning. It only
took him about 2 hours and 45 minutes since there was hardly anyone
playing. Holes 11 and 13 had the best views. The binder with tips
and information was very helpful. We referred to it many times when
we were looking for places to eat and when we went beach hopping.

I brought my own toiletries but there were little soaps and lotions
on the bathroom vanity just like a hotel. There was body wash,
shampoo, after sun lotions (maybe left by previous guests).

We set up most of our activities through the Fish and Dive. We did
the Halawa hike, snorkeling, kayaking and mule ride. Definitely wear
long pants AND bug spray for the Halawa hike. Snorkeling was best on Mile
20. Mile 22 was the best spot to watch the sunrise.

We went to a few places for dinner. We ate at the Cookhouse on our
first night and loved it (thanks Ellyn!). Dinner at Paddler's Inn was
okay. We stopped by the Lodge one night but their menu didn't appeal
to us so we headed out for the Pizza Café. I think they had the
tastiest fish. Dinner at Hotel Molokai wasn't that good. My steak
was overcooked and my "jumbo" prawns were the size of my pinky finger.
But the setting and music were nice. Mana'e around Mile 16 is a good
place to stop by for lunch. They had good burgers and smoothies. We
had breakfast one morning at Kanekitsu Bakery before driving out to
Halawa. Good French toast. We made our own breakfast most mornings or
heated up left over dinners. It was great having a well-stocked kitchen. We
had all the essential utensils andcookware.

At night, we watched TV (cable!). Between the time difference and
our day's activities, we went to bed by 10:30 most nights. The sound
of the coconut trees swaying in the wind put me to sleep every night.
We even heard the gecko a few times. My boyfriend brought his laptop
and we were surprised to find that our neighbor must have had wireless
service so we were able to "steal" their bandwidth. The condo was
the perfect base for us. We went home everyday after each activity
for a quick rest before heading out for dinner. We had the most
beautiful sunsets. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely
return again!

Thanks Ellyn and Tom!

Shirley

P.S.
Mile 22 where we watched the sunrise is also where my boyfriend proposed!

We had a wonderful time. I still can't believe the amazing view from the lanai
(and living room!) Everything was just right.
The first day, I was getting ready to make breakfast, and the power went out,
so we just had cereal (the coffee was already made, thank goodness!)
Not knowing if it was just our unit or the whole complex, I checked the circuit
box, and everything looked fine. I saw a maid outside and she said it was the
whole complex and had no idea why or how long. We left for the day and
drove around exploring.
At the Molokai Ranch gift shop, I overheard a women on the phone talking to
another women in the gift shop at Kalua Koi, exclaiming that the power had
just come back on (this was 5pm!) We didn't care because we were gone all
day, and the food was ok in the refrigerator, so no worries there.
I really loved the pots and pans, the bed, the shower and the view.
My daughter really loved not missing any of her favorite shows on TV.
We played Scrabble, that was fun!
The Pizza Café was the best! We went there twice.
Everything was great, just enough to do and no crowds. I want to go back
with my husband and hike to the falls, and see the Father Damien memorial.
My daughter was not into hiking, so we mostly explored the shops and
beautiful scenery. One day we did nothing and just hung out reading and
sitting by the pool.

Thank you so much for a great vacation!

We THOROUGHLY enjoyed your place on Molokai! We love the spectacular
view and the warm pool and the tropical surroundings, and the weather has
been more than cooperative. Your high-end kitchen cookware was a real hit
and we've made fabulous meals here. Last night it was grilled ahi with
cilantro/key lime sauce. Tonight it's grilled tofu, but Joe doesn't know it yet.
We had time to get some writing done and we explored lots of Molokai. Right
now we are nursing our sore thighs and calves from our round-trip hike to

We truly enjoyed Molokai and especially your condo.  I left a short
note in your guestbook that said we have rented several condos in
the islands and truly, yours is the best equipped that we have
seen.  One of the fun things we do on holidays, which we never
seem to have enough time for while working, is cooking.  Your
kitchen had all the utensils we needed to stir up some fine meals.
And what a joy it was to be able to light a candle and enjoy a
relaxing dinner on the lanai.

Your new lanai furniture arrived while we were there - it is lovely.  I
took over the chaise lounge and spent several hours stretched out
on it with my nose in a good book.  We took several books with us
and left most of them there for others to enjoy as well.

The weather could have cooperated a bit more - we had a lot of
cloud and very few sunsets but we were there when Oahu and
Kauai had fierce storms and flooding so we couldn't complain as
the clouds produced very little rain.  We did remind ourselves that
we were visiting during Hawaii's winter season and we wouldn't be
wearing shorts and tee-shirts if we were at home!

You are to be complimented on setting up a lovely condo and
sharing it with others.  I've passed your information on about rental
details to a few friends already who are considering vacationing
on Molokai.

Your condo on Moloka'i is great!  It
surpassed our expectations and exceeded
the condo we rented at Napili Shores, Maui,
during the previous week. The condo was
perfect as far as I'm concerned.  Couldn't
have asked for anything nicer and plush.

Just a side note.....loved your
dishes....thought I could get on the internet
and locate them, but they must not have an
internet site.

It is close enough to the ocean to be just a
short walk, and far enough away that the
breaking waves didn't keep me awake at
night.

Moloka'i is even more laid back than we
expected - I now know where they got the
expression "on Molokai Time".

We really enjoyed the Mule Ride down the
cliffs to the Leper colony.  View was
amazing.  Tour guides made it fun and
interesting.  Mules made it an unforgettable
adventure - my top activity from our two trips
to the islands.

Talked with several native born Molokaians
(if that is a word) and really were pleased
and educated by them.  They are a
wonderful people.  Everyone we met treated
us well.

Again, thank you so much for the use of your
beautiful condo.  It really added to our
enjoyment of our visit.

Hi Ellyn,
Just a quick reply to your request for feedback on condo in Molokai.
We thought your place was one of the best we could have stayed at. We
actually left our comments in the guest book at the condo, but you probably
won't get to read until you return, so briefly - the place was in great shape.

We would not hesitate to return to your condo. Great, comfy king bed,
awesome location, very nicely furnished, everything we needed. Have raved
about it to friends!! So long for now,

We are reluctantly leaving this bit of paradise you and Tom so graciously
shared with us. We have so loved the condo, felt right at home right from the
beginning. We took your recommendations and went to the eastern tip--
Purdy's, the overlook---and even to the bakery at 5:40 am this morning for
fresh rolls and coffee before going up to the overlook to catch the sunrise.
The drive out east WAS positively spiritual....we had dinner at the bar at the
Molokai Lodge twice and we grilled steaks here last night...We didn't "do" a
lot, yet each day felt rich, full, and completely satisfying...we would love to
come back. And we thought the condo was wonderful--Paul is saying right
now to me, "tell her she had the most excellent bed and pillows". This is one
of the most wonderful islands, places, I have ever been, subtly unique and
totally absorbing....
