| Such a gorgeous house! Very centrally located to all of the beautiful and fun things to see and do in Hana, yet so peaceful. Bubble baths in the clawfoot bathtub, cooking big breakfasts, and daily visits from Kimo (the friendliest, cutest, and most well-behaved dog I've ever met) were special highlights. Highly recommended. We hope to come back very soon! Mahalo nui loa!!! |

| We fell in love with Hana - and our plantation bungalow was a part of that experience. Greeted by flowers and Hawaiian music, it was great from the moment we walked in. The beautiful art and the tub and Kimo... We later met our family in Kaanapali where we go every couple of years - and missed the truly working kitchen in Hana. And Leokane - we LOVE your cd. Meke Mahalo. We look forward to drinks with both of you next time - thanks for all the suggestions too. We want to begin and end future family vacations in Heavenly Hana at the Hale Ulu Lulu. |

We spent our honeymoon at Hale Ulu Lulu and couldn't have picked a better place. It was just a short drive or bike to the seven sacred pools, beautiful beaches, and the lovely town of Hana. The house itself was great, very comfortable and peaceful. I highly recommend Hal Ulu Lulu to anyone looking to see the natural beauty of Maui. |

| Sorry for the delay in making a comment, but my now fiancee and I stayed at this gorgeous, perfectly located find last August for 4 days. Leokani and Chris were so great in communication leading up to our stay and the place is immaculate and full of great Hana mellow vibes. I recommend shopping at Costco/Safeway, packing ice in a cooler, and hiding out at Hale Ulu Lulu for at least 5 days. The house is STOCKED with all of the beach items you need. This is a MUST stay in my opinion. Never have I felt more relaxed. |

A few months before leaving on our vacation, a friend told us NOT to go to Hana. We sure are glad that we ignored his terrible advice! We spent 3 nights in Hale Ulu Lulu and then left for 5 nights in Lahaina. We wished we never left, as our time in Hana was the highlight of our trip! We felt completely at home in the beautiful accommodations. After seeing whales jumping from the porch our last morning, it was VERY hard to leave. We had a great time, and would recommend your place to anyone. Thanks! |

Fabulous! Hale Ulu Lulu is everything it is advertised to be and more. Proprietors Chris & Leokane put a great deal of effort into ensuring our 2 night stay in late January was perfect. We arrived to a beautifully decorated plantation house with Hawaiian music playing and plumeria blossoms decorating every room.
Nearby is a walk along the ocean cliffs to Venus Pool. Short drive to an incredible Bamboo Forest hike. Be sure to sit outside at night and stargaze and get up in time to catch the sunrise--nothing like it! |

| Thank you for providing a beautiful getaway in Hana. We were so glad to be able to stay for 3 days and not do the road to and from Hana in one day. This was a perfect honeymoon cottage and we found ourselves happy to stay at the cottage and on the beautiful lawn relaxing. The sunrise was well worth getting up for; and we enjoyed Hermoa beach less than 1/2 mile away. The Hawaiin music on CD's was wonderful. No artificial silk flowers here. Live orchids welcomed us and plumeria flowers were spread throughout the house., . The gourmet kitchen was a joy to cook in and made for easy clean up. I loved the decorator colors and comfortable furnishings. Your photos do not even begin to show how beautiful Hale Ulu Lulu is. The deep claw foot tub made for wonderful bubble baths every night. Thank you for thinking and attending to every detail and checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. You are wonderful hosts. Mahalo |

We spent our 10 year wedding anniversary at the Hale Ulu Lulu cottage and loved every minute we were there! We planned our whole trip on the availability of this cottage and we were were not disappointed. As soon as we walked in, we were amazed at how lovely everything was. We could tell from the pictures how nice it was, but the pictures don't do it justice!
The sunrise in the morning is directly in front of the cottage door and you can see the ocean and hear the waves all day long.
Every detail was wonderful from the flowers everywhere around the house to the stocked pantry and fridge with all the extras you can think of for cooking a gourmet meal. There wasn't anything missing!
We were really bummed that we had to leave and head to Kaanapali for 4 nights after that. The rest of our trip just didn't compare to our time spent in Hana. Next trip, we will stay the entire time at the cottage. The location couldn't be more perfect.
Thank you so much for having us and we can't wait to come back. It will always remain a very special place to us. |

| We loved this place soooo much. After the beautiful but stressful Hana Hwy. drive it was wonderful to arrive at the Hale Ulu Lulu house to the sound of Hawaiian music and the smell of fresh flowers strewn everywhere. The attention to detail was wonderful and the house was beautiful and fun. We were very comfortable and wish we could have stayed longer. Would definitely want to stay there again if ever in that part of the world. Have told many friends about the houses and recommended them highly. |

| If we could've packed up this cottage and brought it home with us, we would have. What a perfect spot. Hale Ulu Lulu was worth every minute of the long (though not as long as I was expecting) winding drive to get there. It was even more charming than the photos suggest. It took about .5 seconds for us to adjust to the Hana lifestyle. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we even left some of our belongings behind (Thanks for helping with that, Chris!). This lovely cottage left us wanting for nothing except more time to spend there. Five stars. |

My husband and I were completely blown away by the beauty of the "cottage" and the loving touches throughout. Hale Ulu Lulu has just the right amount of anything you could need - including the best host dogs ever, Kimo and Ua! Ah......Heavenly Hana. Heavenly Hale Ulu Lulu! I am back at work remembering the peace and beauty of this special place in Hawaii. As I look out my office window at the snow that has been piling up here in the Adirondack Mountains, I am warmed by Leokane's lovely CD and the memories of sunrises seen from Hale Ulu Lulu. Thank you for sharing your special guesthouse. The view, the special amenities, and the lovingly restored and cared for cottage made our stay so memorable. We so enjoyed sharing a glass of wine and restoration stories with Leokane and appreciated Chris' help connecting to the internet. The dogs were an added delight! The local books you provided, the suggestions for sightseeing, and Leokane's music offered an opportunity for a much deeper understanding and respect for the culture of Hawaii--and especially of Hana. We were blessed to be able to spend six relaxing days in this special place. Hale Ulu Lulu and the special men who so lovingly care for it will remain a treasured memory. Dear Chris and Leokane,
We loved Hana and Hale Ulu Lulu! Our stay was way too short. We decided to go to Hana because the Hana Highway in itself is a spectacular drive. And, there are so many natural attractions in Hana - beaches, waterfalls, etc. But, Hale Ulu Lulu is so awesome that it is worth the trip in itself. It has exquisite Mahogany floors. There are dimmers on just about every light fixture to enable you to create a really romantic setting. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped. You will find everything you could possibly need to cook a gourmet meal. If you forget to purchase items such as Olive Oil or Balsamic Vinegar, you may find them in the pantry. There are also cloth napkins to make your dinners extra special. This cottage is so comfortable and exceptionally well maintained that I could live here permanently! The attention to detail and the comfortable furnishings make it feel more like a home than a rental. One of the things that really made Hale Ulu Lulu so memorable was "check-in". I was cranky at best when we got to Hana - really bad mood is probably more accurate. Our drive to Hana was stressful - it was raining and extremely foggy. A tree had fallen across the road and a car bumped into our rental car while we were trying to move aside to allow trucks through to clear the road. We were advised to return back to ?? and not to continue to Hana by one of the day trip tour drivers. We ignored him. When we did finally arrive at Hale Ulu Lulu, my mood changed completely! The sun was shining. The double doors were standing wide open. Hawaiian music was playing. There were orchids and Plumeria blossoms just everywhere! It is really hard to describe. This cottage is so inviting and so so romantic - just incredible. A call to see if everything was okay shortly after we arrived. All of the stress disappeared. My thoughts were - it could rain for the next three days. I could stay in this place forever - relax and do nothing. I couldn't’t think of a nicer or more romantic place to stay.
One of the really unexpected pleasures of this vacation was discovering the voice of Leokane Pryor. I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase Maunahele from 7DAVID7. I could go on and on about your voice. Kipahulu, Maunahele, Ehukai, and Puamana make the stresses of the day completely melt away during a long stressful drive from work. I am anxiously waiting for your next CD.
I almost forgot to mention, the ocean view at Hale Ulu Lulu is pretty spectacular too. And, the proprietors go way above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that you have a memorable vacation.
This is a spectacular place. And we have stayed at so many private homes and cottages around the world. Few can compare.
Mahalo Chris and Leokane. I just can’t wait to return!

| The Hale Ulu Lulu is just what one would want to find at the end of the road . . . your beautiful cottage, with the music playing, the ocean out front, is a welcoming, comfortable retreat. Chris and Leokane have created an Eden in Hana, and what's more, they're sharing it. We felt very lucky to be staying there. Hale Ulu Lulu was exactly like the pictures on the website. The large expanse of lawn with the ocean in the near distance was what we saw looking out the front door. | I simply cannot say enough wonderful things about our week-long stay in Hana at the Hale Ulu Lulu for our 30th wedding anniversary. The house is really lovely and close to all the beaches. Right across the street is the awesome lava rock coastline where you will be mesmerized as you watch the waves crashing against the rocks. You can sit in the spacious yard at night and look up at a sky full of stars. The house offers free internet service and phone calls to the mainland. The kithen is by far the most well-equipped one I have ever used. Everything you could possibly need is there. The house has a washer and dryer, as well as snorkeling/ beach/picnic supplies. Even the bathroom has everything you need. Our memories of our stay there will stay with us forever. The location is perfect if you're looking for a quiet get-away from the hustle and bustle of the resorts. We highly recommend the Hale Ulu Lulu for at least a week in Heavenly Hana! |

This place was magical - both Hana and Hale Ulu Lulu. Better than we expected and we expected paradise. I'll never forget sitting in the lounge chairs in front of the house while warm rain soaked me and then having the sun pop out a few minutes later and drench me in its warmth. Hamoa Beach was, as Michener claimed, the most perfect beach in the world- and its less than a mile away. And the 'red sand beach' was a sweet little surprise. After 4 days in Hana we made the mistake of spending our last 2 in Lahaina. We won't do that again!

| Hawaii was our best vacation ever and the Hale Ulu Lulu house made it even more special. The house is incredible (and we are very picky): exceptionally clean, beautifully decorated, gorgeous view of the ocean, a short walk to the Venus Pool, a short drive to Oheo Gulch and the trailhead to Waimoku Falls (both must-see's), everything's P E R F E C T ! ! We just wish we could have stayed longer - we recommend a minimum of 2 nights to enjoy everything Hana has to offer. Make sure you bring something to cook, either from Kahului or purchase in town at the Hana General Store, because you will want to use the fully furnished and gorgeous kitchen. Words cannot describe the feelings of peace and tranquility that envelop you as you absorb the beauty around you...listening to the sounds of birds chirping, waves lapping, feeling the cool breeze drifting across your face. | I thought Hale Ulu Lulu [house under the breadfruit tree?] was so charming when I walked in, I didn't know whether to throw a dinner party in the wonderful dining room, write a letter at the perfect little desk looking out on the surf shooting up over the hill across the street, or take a nap in that great bed. Ken immediately took a bath in the blue clawfoot bathtub. This is a house to really relax in...I loved it and can't wait to come back. This was my first trip to Maui and to Hana. After the beautiful drive to Hana from Ka'anapali Beach where we'd seen breaching whales, beautiful beaches, huge swell at Hookipa, and all those amazing bamboo forests on the road to Hana, I didn't expect to be so blown away by the area, but I was. Loved Red Sand Beach, the Kona beef burgers at the Hana Maui hotel and the so-called seven sacred pools at Oheo Gulch. Leokane and Ua the dog are wonderful hosts!!! We spent 11 days in the 1 bedroom guesthouse at Malanai and without a doubt it was the best vacation we have ever had. Getting up every morning surrounded by the lushness and the fragrant air, to hear the birds and ocean waves; to have a relaxing breakfast (created in the beautiful and well appointed kitchen) followed by sipping coffee and watching the day unfold while we plan what to do that day. Will we go to Black Sand Beach, drive up to the Bamboo forest, or drive into Hana town after a two hour break on Hamoa Beach, or just sit outside the guesthouse and relax? I hope you are getting the picture? We enjoyed our stay at the serene, beautifully decorated guest house with the fragrant breezes flowing through it. We were fortunate to arrive when a full moon was rising so we could sit without lights on and watch the tropical night. We can't remember when we saw so many stars. Bonus! the bed is really comfortable. If you want to go out for a meal there are two dining rooms in Hana Town. Chris and Leokane are perfect hosts, giving information and directions while respecting guest privacy. Driving the Road to Hana was well worth finding this gem. Homeowner Response:
I wanted to add a quick note of response to this kind comment from our guests. There had been a bridge out, past Hana and our property, that has since been replaced and so the road is open to Oheo Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools). The road past the pools is now closed due to loose rock, so the "back way" to Hana will be closed for a while. Please contact us for more information and updates.

We hiked all over Hana for 3 days and saw many beautiful waterfalls, heiaus and trails. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

We had a great time. It felt like staying at friends' 2nd home and I guess that invariably, your renters become friends with you. The houses are very comfortable and for cooks like us, very well appointed and great to indulge our passion. We rented both houses and so we took numerous walks through the yard back and forth, picking fresh avocados that fell to the ground outside the 2 bedroom cottage as well as passion fruit, bananas, papayas and the like, all of which are in the garden, practically an arm lenght's away, there for your tasting pleasure. The citrus were not quite in season... a pitty, because according to Leokane, they are fantastic. Try a fresh avocado with lemon or lime, olive oil, salt and pepper and you won't need any other snack when you're lounging on the deck, watching the ocean waves not too far away. At night the place is amazingly quiet and you will see more stars than you've ever imagined possible in your entire life. It's hard to get that picture unless you're 10,000 ft up a mountain and no city glare in sight, yet here you get it with the ocean practically at your feet and a gentle breeze swaying the palm trees just above you, the only thing restricting your view being their giant leaves. Hamoa beach is a dream, as is the Tuesday night Luau there, a must if all you've seen in the past are the highly commercialised luaus everywhere else in these islands. Relax, unplug, and kick back. This is the place to do it. |

We have been to Hana several times on day trips and decided that if we ever went again that we would stay at least a couple of nights. What a difference that made. However, due to the limited number of available accommodations in Hana, be sure to book at least 6 months out, and maybe as long as a year during the high season. We only had a couple of months lead time and were very fortunate to find a place like Hale Ulu Lulu. Booking was very easy via email. When we arrived the doors were standing open ready for us to unload, and when it was time to leave we simply packed up and left The immaculately decorated bungalow offered a true Hawaiian feel and lacks for nothing, including great ocean views. The location provides plenty of peace a tranquility, yet is very close to town and all of the sights. We found it to be the perfect way to start our Hawaiian vacation. We could have not asked for a better place to stay.

Staying in Hana at the Hale Ulu Lulu was an absolute highlight of our April visit to Hawaii.
Hamoa Beach is the ideal, secluded getaway, and how can you complain about swimming under the falls at Ohe’o Gulch?
The cottage itself is immaculate, with every imaginable amenity and delightful decor. It was a wonderful place to hang out and unwind, as well as the perfect home base for discovering Hana.
Our two disappointments were having to leave so soon (two nights is not enough!), and that Leokane and Chris were out of town during our visit. Having heard so many lovely things about them, we'll need to return soon to rectify the situation. |

| Awesome place! These guys have done a super job renovating and decorating the cottage for an authentic island experience. The fantastic ocean view is enough to make you linger on the front steps while you plan out your next adventure. Be sure and ask Leokane the way to the Venus Pool...it's worth the hike! |

This was our first trip to Hana and it was amazing. We had come to Ulu Lulu from an ocean view suite at the Fairmont in Wailea. We can honestly say this cottage was more regal and more impressive. The cottage is immaculatly decorated. The town of Hana is so relaxing and the people are so nice. We were so lucky to have spent time in this cottage and are counting down the days to our return. | We highly recommend this gorgeous and sooo peaceful bungalow. It was the most relaxing and enjoyable part of our entire stay! It is a well-appointed bungalow with all the amenities we were looking for and none of the hassle. The sunrise and sunsets were particularly beautiful, as was sitting out in the yard, relaxing and appreciating the weather. I recommend this to anyone who would like to relax and have some peaceful "you" time in great quarters. Enjoy! |

We have been coming to Hana for many years, enticed by the remote location, the beauty, the sense of being in the "real" Hawaii. Each time we have stayed in different places, ranging from the Hotel, the Condo, various B and B's and inns, but never found the one we wanted to return to over and over...until this visit. Thank you Chris and Keolane, for givng us the perfect place to come back to, year after year. See you soon! Sharon and Casey Jonquil |

Comment Text: What a gem! When we first fot there we couldn’t believe our surroundings, inside and out: Incredible scenery with an amazing view of the ocean that fills the front windows, light streaming in from all sides, the most beautiful rooms so tenderly put together. Inside, the colors, the furnishings, the handmade chandelier, everything was interesting and appealing. We loved the tapa cloth on the walls. Hana is gorgeous to see and deeply refreshing. We were fascinated by the tiny Hana Cultural Center with it’s collection of black and white photographs of the Hana community. The hosts, Chris and Leokane (a professional Hawaiian singer with a gorgeous voice) were charming and gracious and left us to our own devices except whenever we had questions or concerns. We’d go back in a minute. Oscar Melara and Kate Connell, San Francisco

It's a good thing, Hale Ulu Lulu is well off the beaten path ... it if weren't, EVERYONE would be there in a heartbeat, and it wouldn't be the same magical, unique rejuvenation haven that it was for us and the club of clued-in fellow travelers who've done time there. If only we'd BEEN imprisoned! Instead, our time at this incredibly pleasant and serene guest house was way too short. Next time, we will stay longer. Wonderful, friendly hosts; a well-appointed cottage that shows off Chris' obvious flair for interior design; and that practically surreal, mesmerizing view from the front windows of the pasture and ocean beyond ... it just doesn't get any better than this. Oh yeah, Hana and the surrounding sights are a bonus, but ... if you arrive in the state we did – desperately in need of major stress reduction and relaxation – you may not even want to go outside. Bring a good book & your Mac w/airport card (if you must; I left mine at home on purpose, but next time may just plan to stay much longer & do some writing ... no muse could refuse to appear in Hale Ulu Lulu!). Thanks, guys, for sharing your fabulous guest house. |

Staying in beauiful Hana for a week or so is well worth it, and guest cottages at Malanai are the perfect place! The location is excellent, close to everything and yet private and secluded just enough. The cottages are very comfortable and well equipped, complete with the wireless internet and phone! We stayed at many hotels and vacation rentals over the years - this one is a rare find! Chris and Leokane are great people and the perfect hosts, going out of their way to make sure your stay is the best it can be. They love the area and will point out the best things for you to do and see. There are so many natural wonders in Hana and around and the place is so relaxing and soothing, it is an amazing treat to come here and experience it! And it is so easy to do from your basecamp at Malanai cottages! One last thing: before we planned our vacation in early November, we were concerned about the rainy weather in Hana, as it has a reputation for being one of the wettest spot in Hawaii, especially in fall/winter months. Here is what we learned: 1. Hana is such a beautiful spot with so much to do that the weather does not matter at all 2. The coastal patterns with clouds coming in and out and occaisional rain are actually great and make for a very pleasant hiking weather (and you want to go hiking here, believe us!). And the few beaches in Hana deliver, too, rain or shine! So unless it is some huge storm pattern coming through(in which case such as life) - the weather is just perfect in Hana all the time! We are definetely coming back to Hana as soon as we can to stay with Leokane and Chirs and can't thank them enough for introducing us to one of the loveliest places on the planet!

The first time I rented Hale Ulu Lulu, I had such a great experience that I knew I no longer needed to stay anywhere else on Maui. At this moment, I am sitting in Hale Ulu Lulu, for my second visit, using their wireless internet connection and this experience has only confirmed my ealier feeling. This cottage is the perfect vehicle for the magic of Hana. |

I live in London and travel all around the world. This is the most beautiful place I've ever seen with the ocean just across the road. The accomodation is not only very comfortable, but the decor is subperb. It does not feel like a rental. I had the happiest time there.

Hana feels like the most relaxing place on earth. Hale Ulu Lulu is an ideal private cottage that is walking distance to the beach. As nice as the cottage is, (and it is beautiful) it is Hana that is the draw. The walk to the beach in the morning is as nice a walk as you can hope for. If you get to the beach by 7:30 you will be the first ones on the beach. And if you like dogs you will fall in love with Ua, who comes free with the cottage. This is a great vacation spot! The Hale Ulu Lulu is the most beautiful cottage in Hana! I have visited many times in the past and stayed at the lovely Hana-Maui, which runs you at least $500 a night. But, the Hale Ulu Lulu is better, more private and much more affordable. I have told everyone I know to check it out. If you want to enjoy your own private paradise in the most beautiful enviroment, cook your own ahi tuna steaks, take a great bath and just take it all in. This is the place for you. The owner is very cool and keeps the place spotless. We would never stay any place else in Hana now. What a find... We only hope it doesn't get so popular that we can't book when we want! Oh yeah, there was one problem....We only booked 2 days...We should have stayed longer.

| Wow! What a fabulous house and location. Hana is lovely and a must to visit--not just drive through. The cottage we stayed in is so well appointed. The hosts have truly thought of every possible convenience. The kitchen is better stocked with appliances than ours! It reminded us of the of the Ritz Carlton--dark wood and fabulous colors. Makes it a very pleasant stay. Look out the front windows to the ocean. So serene and quiet. Would recommend to anyone! |
