My boyfriend and I stayed at this apartment for 5 days... it was a good size for a studio and it has lots to offer a couple.
The area is also a good area, but quite far away from the centre, the rapid train doesn't run at the weekends so it takes much longer to get to and from Tokyo a taxi costs 4,500 yen, before midnight, maybe more after.
We think that guests should know before they arrive that the apartment is right next to the railway tracks and both windows face onto the tracks, so you can not open the windows and it is very difficult to sleep later than 5:30am as it's very noisy.
This was not explained fully in the apartment information. The rest of the apartment is how it's described on the website.

5 of us stayed at the 2 bedroom apt in Nishi-Ogikubo. What a great little place it was!! First, it was big enough for 5 grown men, free high speed internet, washing machine, fully equipped kitchen (although we never used it), nice quite location right next to the train station, clean rooms with "real" soap and shampoo, great price compare to equivalent hotels etc. But we were most impressed with the customer service provided by Mr. Makoto. He not only commuincated with us weeks before our arrival but also during out stay he gave us a lot of tips and suggestions to help plan our stay better. He is REALLY funny guy and speaks good English. I would highly recommend staying in this apartment.

We received a lot of information not only regarding the apartment but also on Tokyo (Thanks to Mr. Makoto).
It was a really pleasant stay, the apartment is perfect for 2, nicely furnished, in good location not really central but well connected.
Just around the corner there is a supermarket open 24 hours.
We will recommend it to our friends and we hope to come back soon.

Stayed here for 5 days May/09. Train station is attached to the 24 hour supermarket (which was great) which is 30 seconds to apartment.

Place was very nice and clean and roomy enough for 2 adults.

Nishi-ogikubo was cool little place, about 30 min train to Tokyo station.

Makoto was super friendly, met us at the train station and walked us in, gave us instructions and travel tips

Check out was even easier, just left the keys there.

Would definitely recommend this place, had a GREAT stay, although myself, i might stay in a busier area next time where i can step out of my place into the bustle.

Four of us stayed at the Nishi-Ogikubo two-bedroom apartment during mid-March. Makoto-san was nice enough to meet us late on a weekend night to show us to the apartment and spent time explaining the apartment and other useful information. The apartment itself was really nice, with big comfortable beds and free internet, and even a washing machine if we needed to wash some clothes! The 24-hour supermarket near the apartment was also very convenient to us, and the station location was very close as well. In all, this was a very comfortable stay that saved us a lot of money if we were to have stayed at hotels!

Me and my mother stayed here a few months back and we loved it! The apartment was comfortable and spacious. It was also very clean and had many things already included such as shampoo, soap, and conditioner. The location was great, only a two minute walk to the station and within walking distance to lots of shops and places to eat. We loved having everything so close and were actually very sad when we had to leave to our next destination. We would recommend this place to anyone planning to stay in Tokyo and would definitely stay here again.

We (family of four) stayed in this apartment on Thanksgiving week (November, 2008). I cannot say enough good things about the apartment, access to the city and the neighborhood. Above all the hospitality and welcome by Mr. Makoto is unbelievably great. He gave all useful information a tourist need and always answered any question during our stay.

It is very neat/clean and compact apartment with all necessary supplies. The area is very very easy to navigate has a great 24hr market, and internet cafe, and McDonald's, all within walking distance.

If I am back in Tokyo in future, I am going to stay same place without any doubt. Thanks Mr. Makoto for making our trip a pleasant and memorable one.

My wife and I stayed in this apartment in July 2008. I made the reservation in January and, as the date
approached for us to leave for Tokyo, Makoto would periodically email me. He provided weather updates,
thorough instructions on how to get to the unit, and a phone number I could use to reach him should we get
lost on the way. We did get lost but Makoto was very patient, giving us instructions over the phone on how to
navigate the trains and waiting at the station for us to arrive.

The apartment itself was wonderful. Compared to many of the VRBO units that we have rented in Europe, the
unit was quite spacious and clean. Especially the bathroom, which has a very deep tub -- a fantastic way to top
off a day of sight-seeing and sooth aching muscles. The apartment is also air conditioned, which really is a
necessary accommodation — summer in Tokyo is very, very hot and humid. The kitchen is adequate, equipped
with all the basic tools required to prepare a meal. And the bed is very comfortable. I also appreciated the
high-speed internet.

Makoto made a point to explain the apartment to us and show us how everything worked. He had maps and
brochures of local attractions to share with us and gave us a little gift, which was a nice touch. We really
enjoyed our stay and would stay here again if we returned to Tokyo.

We stayed at this apartment for 3 days and loved every minute of it. We were first greeted at the
Nishi-Ogikubo station by Makoto, our wonderfully happy and friendly host, who showed us all the
local conveniences before taking us to the apartment. We were initially worried about being away from
inner Tokyo, but this was a blessing, and Nishi-Ogikubo actually has everything you could need
without the chaos of downtown Tokyo and is still close to everything.

There is a large supermarket next door to the apartment with a huge range of cheap ready to go meals
(sushi, ton katsu, yakitori, fried chicken, rice etc), as well as a lots of fresh produce if you want to cook
for yourself (but there is so much variety in the take-out supermarket food and its so cheap that its
not really worth it). There is also a very nice Onsen only a few stations away that Makoto gave us
information about. We loved the onsen so much we want to make one in Australia.

The apartment itself was great. It is located almost over the train station, making it very convenient
but the double glazed windows means you can barely hear the trains pass. It was very tastefully
furnished and relatively spacious, with high speed internet and all the mod cons. Perfect for two
people. We bought a JR rail pass in Australia which was worthwhile to travel on the shinkansen from
Kyoto, but the NIshi-Okikubo line is a JR station, so you can travel for free within Tokyo on the JR
lines for free with your pass (just flash it at the gate). Makoto gave us maps and we just made sure we
stuck to the JR lines to get around. Only once did we pay for a subway ticket.

We had such a great time we would love to come back, and we would not hesitate to stay here again or
to recommend it to our friends. We would much rather stay in an apartment than in a hotel so we
experience a more genuine Japan. We only wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you Makoto!!!

Despite waiting until the last minute to try and find a place to stay in Tokyo, Mr. Makoto was more than accommodating to my brother and I. He arranged to pick us up at the train station and walked us to the apartment which was only a few minutes away. He took the time to explain the recycling system and everything else in the apartment. We had a great experience and would definitely stay at one of Mr. Makoto apartment the next time I am Tokyo. Having the super market and the train station around the corner from the apartment was extremely convenient.

While there try the Sushi place with the conveyor belt, the Izakaya next to it and the other pub with the ping pong table(can't remember the names of these places)but great time were had all three places.

Gracias Makoto for our introduction to Tokyo and also the CD, it was a nice gesture. The music in it it's pretty good too.

Very nice appartment. We were 4 linving there so it was a bit small but we were there only to sleep, so that was perfect! There's a nice grocery store at 1 minute by walk and the train at 5 minutes walking distance. The neighborhood is really safe (as the rest of Japan!) and the apartment responsable, Makoto, is really kind and helpfull! I recommend it for the price, the service and the facility around the apartment.

We stayed here for about seven nights with our 10 year old son while on our recent trip to Japan. We found it comfortable and spacious enough to suit our needs. We especially liked having Seiyu Market, a large grocery store, practically downstairs where we bought a lot of bentos and pastries. The apartment is very close to Nishi-Ogikubo Station. However, we found the Green Window at Nishiogkubu Station to be a little frustrating compared to the other offices we used at the larger stations-- the people at the JR Nishiogikubo Station did not seem as if they had encountered many tourists. As the other comments reflect, checking in and out is very easy, although you essentially have to make an appointment with Makoto in order to do so. However, Makoto is easy to reach, cheerful, and very service oriented. Now that we know the lay of the land a little better in Tokyo, Nishi-Ogikubo will definitely be one place we would definitely stay at again and we appreciate and enjoyed our stay there.

We stayed in this apartment from 12-20 Jul 08. There were 3 of us, including our baby and the apartment was spacious for us. The apartment was just a stone throw away from the seiyu supermarket which was opened 24hrs. So, there is no chance one will get hungry. The apartment was well equipped with all the necessities, especially the washing machine which we made use of everyday, thus allowing us to bring less set of clothes there. All the bathing essential was also provided. The kitchenette was also well equipped with all cooking utensils and cutlery. Makoto even provided us with some rice to cook. We spent some time in the neighbourhood and you can find many food outlets there which offered good food at a reasonable price. On our arrival day, Makoto picked us up at the train station and even on the air-conditioner in the apartment to cool down the apartment before picking us up. He was friendly, always packed a smile and was quick to answer any queries we had. He even gave a music CD as a gift. It was a small gesture but a very personal touch from him. We hope to go back to Japan one day and will certainly pick the same apartment to stay in again. Thank you Makoto-san

Our comment to this Nishi-Ogikubo apartment is long over due. But we still have fond memories of our Japan trip and this lovely apartment since summer, 2007.

We traveled with our two kids, age 7 and 10. We were in Japan for two weeks and stayed in the Nishi-Ogikubo apartment for 4 nights and 5 days. The size of the apartment was perfect for our family, although one person had to sleep on the couch, the space is still sufficient.

There was a fully equipped small kitchenette, but with the Seiyu Supermarket next door we never cooked once. You walked through the supermarket to get to the train station and there are more restaurants in the train station and beyond. You can’t go hungry in this location.

Mr. Makoto was extremely polite and helpful. He met us at the train station and walked us to the apartment. He patiently explained the recycling system in Japan (we just finished a trip from Taiwan and it was just like Taiwan’s recycling system), all appliances in the apartment (there were clothes washer and dryer), made sure we know where we are going and made more suggestions before he left us. He even gave each of us a folding fan, which we found extremely helpful in Tokyo’s summer.

Mr. Makoto made arrangements to meet us in the train station to pick up the key when we checked out. He gave us a bakery box and told us to open it on the train, which of course our kids ate the delicious baked goods as soon as Mr. Makoto left.

We just think Mr. Makoto added that personal touch to our trip and he was a God sent to us in this foreign land when we spoke minimum Japanese.

Great place! Great owner! Next time we will rent his two bedroom apartment since my kids will be bigger.

The Nishi-Ogikubo apartment was fantastic, so much better than a hotel, and the location could not have been better with the station and supermarket literally next door. The personal attention received from Makoto made our experience even more special. Thankyou Makoto.
Just make sure if arriving in Tokyo on the weekend that you are given Makoto's cell phone number, as without it you may end up like us and have to find a hotel until the office opens on Monday morning. It was a very stressful time after arriving at the airport and waiting at the Nishi-Ogikubo station with no contact number, but all was forgotten when we saw Makoto's smile on Monday morning (and a refund was given).

The apartment was just enough. There were 3 of us and it never felt cramped! The apartment was well equipped with household products, appliances, etc...amenities that you would not be able to find in any hotel. The only con was that there was no housekeeping service, and you really have to be conscious of what you are throwing away since they recycle practically everything in Japan. That was certainly something to get use to since we only recycle bottles and cans in America.

The area of Nishi-Ogikubo was great for eating and late night activities. We sampled really great Thai and Japanese cuisine from the local retaurants, and you could practically find everything you needed at the Seiyu supermarket!! I recommend the Doutor for breakfast sandwiches and the Yakiniku place by the station! Although most of the locals did not speak english, it was still a great experience! We just pointed to the menu and hoped it was good, and were not let down!

Makoto was extremely nice and knowledgeable. Our flight was delayed and I felt bad that we were running behind schedule but Makoto was very understanding about the situation, and although we were late, he was able to meet with us. He even gave us a great welcome gift, much appreciated! He even took the time to show us how everything in the apartment worked and gave us some great information on what to do and see in Tokyo.
The convenience of the apartment to the JR lines made it very easy to get around Tokyo. We invested in the JR Pass, which came in handy since it is good for Shinkansen (we took a 2-day trip to Kyoto), Narita Express, and all local JR lines!! It was well worth the 280.00 since we made good use of it daily! Just be warned, rush hour gets very packed on all the JR lines, especially the orange Chuo-line!! My only regret is that we didn't get to stop at Nakano, it looked like a really fun place, but there was just too much to do at Nishi-Ogikubo!!

I look forward to visiting Tokyo again and staying at one of the apartments!! Thanks so much Makoto for helping to make this trip memorable

I stayed in the Nishi Ogikubo apartment from February 28th to April 5th, 2008. I cannot say enough good things about the apartment, the neighbourhood or about Makoto. I had an amazing trip and finding an apartment to rent for the month I was there made things even better. Renting an apartment from is the ONLY way to stay in Tokyo. Everything was convenient, the trains, the grocery store, and the restaurants. Make sure you take time to walk around the neighbourhood, there are many great places to eat within minutes of the apartment.

Makoto is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He was able to give me some great information before my arrival in Japan about a sword museum in Okayama prefecture. Also, when staying in Tokyo, Makoto made sure I had everything that I needed and that I knew where everything was in the neighbourhood. He also made many great recommendations for places to visit in Tokyo and Japan. Make sure you visit Makoto's hometown of Himeji.

What a treasure this apartment was! We travel to Japan 2-3 times a year for pleasure and always try to stay at an apartment. This was our first experience at the Nishi-Ogikubo apartment and we look forward to many more stays. Makoto-san was fantastic; his graciousness can't be beat. Incredibly helpful and very caring. Living in Nishi-Ogikubo was as if we live in the Tokyo area all the time. It felt like home. The close proximity to the train station was perfect, and it was nice to have only a short walk home after a long day of traipsing around Tokyo. A few other visitors commented that you may hear the trains. Due to the effectiveness of the double-pane windows, we were never disturbed by the them. The apartment is well outfitted with everything you need, even including an office supply box with rubber bands, stationery, scissors, you name it. Such a tremendous help to have had that. The 24-hour Seiyu grocery store couldn't have been more convenient. We cooked several meals using fresh ingredients as well as purchased some of the prepared items, such as sashimi and salads. And the other little shops in the building that sell cooked rice, bento meals, and grilled items were great. If you get tired of seeing the sites of downtown Tokyo, be sure to ride the Chuo line a few stops past Nishi-Ogikubo to enjoy other residential neighborhoods. There is so much to offer in the general area that I wish we had stayed 3 weeks instead of 2. Lastly, don't miss Honmur-an, an excellent soba restaurant about half way between Nishi-Ogikubo and Ogikubo stations. We look forward to our next stay at the apartment and seeing Makoto-san once again.

My friends and I were visiting Tokyo for a week, and this was by far one of the highlights of our trip! This place is unbelievably cool and inexpensive for Tokyo. There were 4 of us and we managed it just fine and for the price it was less than $200 US for the entire week per person! That's crazy! Makoto was amazing and met us all at the train even though we were quite late, he showed us where everything was and was very helpful. The area is easy to navigate has a great 24hr market, and internet cafe, and there's even a McDonalds around the corner if you get homesick. We also found the craziest Mexican restaurant in the world in this neighborhood. Very close to major train routes that take you to Shinjuku, downtown and anywhere! You can book your JR tickets there too (we did and went to Kyoto for 2 days). I would highly highly recommend this to people. This was my first "out of the US" trip and I loved it.

In November we stayed for 2 weeks at the Nishi-Ogikuba apartment. It was a regular home away from home.

Makoto met us from the train and we walked for about 2 minutes to reach the apartment.

It was a lot smaller than we are used to in New Zealand but was perfect for the 2 of us. Very cleverly designed to include everything we needed.

As well as a well equiped Kitchen area we were pleased to have a washing machine so that laundry wasn't a problem.

Apartment was lovely and sunny and bright. Even though it was close to the railway tracks we were rarely disturbed by any noise.

It was extremely convenient with the train station being only 2 minutes away and with a supermarket between the apartment and the train station.

Lots of little restaurants nearby.

It felt like a very safe residential area.

We loved the whole experience and found that this apartment met all our needs.

Excellent Tokyo accomodations. Superior to staying in a hotel, we are quite pleased that this rental was offered. Clean and relatively quiet (we actually enjoyed the sounds of the trains). Nice little kitchenette in unit- plus immediate access to Seiyu market downstairs. Good antiquing and restaurants in Nishi-Ogikubo area also. Great location, easy to access to anywhere in Tokyo.
We really appreciated the service and info provided by Makoto- a very nice guy. The only negative (and it is minor)
was the futon/couch in the TV area was in need of replacement. Overall, I would recommend this rental to all. You will not be disappointed.

My wife and I stayed at the Nishi-Ogikubo appartment for the first few days of out holiday in Japan.
We were met at at the station by Mr Makato Kuno, a very pleasant and patient man who had helped me make the booking over the phone and had waited a long time at the station when we took more time than estimated to arrive.
Makoto gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home straight away.
He had even prepared a small gift for us and a very useful "tourist information pack".
The appartment was very clean, comfortable and had all we needed. The 24 hour supermarket that we walked through as a short cut to the appartment also had every thing you could need. This made the walk to the station less than 3 minutes and after a hard day sightseeing it was great to be able to grab a snack and some beers before slumping in the armchair.
Despite the proximity of the rail track we were not at all bothered by the noise from the trains. We had a rail pass and the excellent rail system in Japan was out friend.
The location of the appartment away from the centre of town gave us more opportunity of meeting people as we travelled to or from the centre. Most evenings on the train some one would talk to us as they were travelling home form work.
I have to say that in the few minutes of welcome Makato had shown us what our trip would be like as we found the people of Japan to be the most helpful and friendly in the world.
We would love to return to Japan and would stay once more in the appartment and would have no hesitation in reccomending the appartment and the excellent service there.

Firstly, it must be said that our contact Makoto Kuno was an extremely helpful and friendly man to deal with. He helped with advice and directions by email before we left NZ for Japan. He meet us at the train station when we arrived and provided more help as we requested it. The accommodation is small by NZ standards but entirely suitable. We found the nearby supermarket extremely useful and the proximity to the trains very helpful. To those who do go on and use this accommodation, remember to have a bit of an explore around the lovely suburb you are staying in - there are some fascinating stores nearby. Happy to recommend to others.

Appartment is nice and clean. A bit noisy due to the trains even with the double windows if you are countryside folks like us ! It's situation is just great and the 24/7 supermarket 50mt away has almost anything including good french bread. Once you have understood the intricacies of the local vs express trains, it is a really nice place to stay and the brand new installation of ADSL modem makes it even better for email-maniacs !

By Tokyo standards, this apartment was roomy and comfortable. I felt it might be a little cramped for 3 people when we walked in the door (just used to big spacious USA) but within a few minutes I was comfortable due to the smart layout, the cleanliness, and the fact that there was a balcony that overlooked the train station. The split bath is handy if you are with several people. The staff were friendly and Makoto dutifully waited for us even though my estimated time of arrival from the airport was about 45 minutes off! The area is cute and very convenient, dont miss the Hyaku Yen ($1)mini market for buying cheaper but same quality snacks and cute implements...its the long street that runs down from the right hand side of the station. I really enjoyed myself and it was easy to keep this little apartment clean too...

Our booking and reservation details were handled in a very professional and efficient manner by Mr. Seiji Suemitsu. Prior to our arrival, he responded promptly to any of my questions. Mr. Yosuke Yugi who greeted us on our arrival was very gracious and accommodating. We were hours late in arriving in the evening because of lost luggage but it didn't phase him although he spent an extra couple of hours waiting around for us. When we told him that we had an appointment the next day and that the subway system seemed a little overwhelming, he kindly told us to call him on his cell if we should get lost even though it was his day off. The apt. is spotlessly clean, modern and efficient. It has everything you might need from coffee maker to iron to washing machine. It was great fun to stay in this apt in a lovely, residential area and we would highly recommend this type of experience over a Western hotel chain. The 24-hour super market next door has wonderful freshly prepared Japanese food - I never cooked once in a week except to make Western style breakfast. We would highly recommend the Nishi-Ogikubo apt. and would definitely like to return. We feel very fortunate to have been able to stay in this apt. on our visit to Tokyo.

We really enjoyed our stay in this apartment in the Nish-Ogikubo area. If you are looking for a good central base to explore Tokyo, then you must stay here. The apartment easily housed 3 adults with comfort and style. The apartment is VERY clean and is designed very well. Althought the apartment may seem a little small to many travelers, the design and overall use of space in this place is terrific. Very thoughtful and smart architecture went into making this apartment very sufficient, despite its size. We had a very enjoyable stay here, and the overall comfort was amazing. The nearby market is a great place to just pick up some quick groceries, while mingling with the locals. Very nice area with very friendly people make this place kind of a hidden gem. I highly suggest anyone going to Tokyo to skip the hotel and high tourist areas and stay in this great apartment in the Nishi-Ogikubo area.

The owner's representative, Seiji Suemitsu, was most helpful with tips and guidance. We would be happy to return to this apartment on a future visit.

We are very pleased to be able to say thank you to VRBO for their kind help and hospitality during our week in Tokyo. Thank you!

The apartment in Nishi-Ogikubo was ideal as a base for us and our two children to explore Tokyo city and for the excursions which we undertook to Nikko and Hakone. We were able to do a little bit of everything: cherry blossom viewing, sightseeing of temples and shrines, shopping, getting out into the countryside and a visit to the Ghibli Museum. This was all helped by the apartment being close to Nishi-Ogikubo station and with the excellent supermarket nearly on the doorstep.

We are happy to recommend the apartment!

We found the Nishi-Ogikubo Apartments on VRBO and would highly recommend them. They are well appointed, clean and in a safe area. There was 7 in our family so we had two apartments one above the other.

The location is rather central to other areas of Tokyo, the all night supermarket is very convenient both to access through and pick up quick meals, the internet cafe across from the station works well and basically everything needed is there.

Of special note is that while we were going shopping and sight seeing in other areas of Tokyo every day we discovered Nishi-Ogikubo on the last night there after reading about it in a tourist magazine and found things we had not found on our travels anywhere else. Luckily we discovered a Toshu Fukami Art Works shop. We had been seeking a modern Japanese artist for weeks through-out our stay in the country and finally found a wonderful, colourful, and talented artist with his shop virtually steps away from the apartments. We felt fortunate.

Our stay in Tokyo was hectic, as we expected, but our accomodation at these apartments was comforting. Thank you for your kindness Seiji, we appreciate all your help.

Had a great time staying for 5 days at this apartment. We had a total of four people and it worked out just fine. A very good value and it was nice to stay in a residential part of Tokyo. Plenty of amenities within walking distance and not a long ride to Shinjuku.

I highly recommend this apt if you're looking to stay in a quieter part of Tokyo. The apt was supremely clean and comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised at how close the apartment was to the train station. It took us only a couple of minutes to walk from the station to the apt, which is a plus if you are travelling during the winter. From the station you can walk through a 24hr supermarket which leads you outside only for a brief moment until you cross the street and head into the apt.

Also, one of the staff, Seiji, provided great assistance to us. He was quick to respond to our concerns and questions.

I had relatives visit me here in Tokyo for 3 weeks, too long to afford a hotel.

This apartment proved ideal in every aspect including price (we did shop around).

The apartment is completely furnished with everything you could think of.

It`s easy to get to from Tokyo & a good central location for getting around.

The apartment is a short walk from the station and has a supermarket literally 1 minute away.

For us... this was the perfect solution.

I have lived in Tokyo for a number of years now and recommend this as very good value for money.

This apartment is in impeccable condition and is very comfortable for a stay in Tokyo. Extremely convenient to the public transportation. We traveled with a 16 month old, so it was a much better option than a hotel, especially with the kitchenette and washing machine. Friendly helpful staff. We highly recommend it.

We had a wonderful week-long stay at the Nishi Ogikubo apartment. It was in a great safe, local neighborhood and the apartment contained all the ammeneties we could have possibly wanted. We especially appreciated the washing machine and cook top stove. The apartment is in excellent condition and very comfortable. Great spot to use as a home base to explore Tokyo.
