Even without dogs or horses, this was one of the most enchanting abodes I've had the pleasure to
enjoy. It seems amazing that this stark and sere landscape can exist just a stone's throw from the
lush coast.

Hiking back up behind the property was rewarded with breathtaking vistas and amazing flora.
Advise that you don't wear shorts, as I did... ouch! Even the thorns have thorns here.

As a woodworker myself, I was astounded by all the charming handmade touches that abound in the
house and on the property, Photos on the web site do not do it justice. Clearly it was a labor of
love, and reflects a refined sense of the use of natural materials that imbue a sense of peace and
harmony. The house stands as a testament to the possibilities of sustainable architecture.

Haylapa changed what had been loosely planned as a coastal road trip. Drawn to the beauty of the
desert, we continued on to the Salton Sea, and on up through Joshua Tree National Park, before
looping back through the mountains to the sea.

Beautiful, beautiful place. Thank you so much...

I just spent a relaxing 2 nights at the Haylapa House, and I couldn't have asked for anything more! The gorgeous natural beauty of the surroundings, the amazing house itself, the delicious pizza, the relaxing patio, the endless array of hiking trails, and the 2 1/2 acres for my dogs to run around, I never felt the need to leave the property for anything the entire time I was there! Lane and Laurie were the perfect hosts!

This was the perfect solo retreat for a single young woman, like myself, and my 2 dogs loved having free roaming time and the great dog bed inside the house!

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick getaway to relax and forget the world for a couple days, and I'm already looking forward to my next stay.

Our stay at the Haylapa was one of the most relaxing and memorable vacations we've ever had. The challenging trails and panoramic views were a wonderful highlight of our trip. Our dogs were in heaven chasing little lizards around the boulders and charging up and down the mountain all day. We spent a nice day at Lake Cuyamaca (right up the road) fishing for trout, bass and bluegill and again, enjoying the mountain scenery. Laurie and Lane were perfect hosts and the unique, handmade furnishings were as comfy as they were beautiful; Can't wait to visit again in the fall!

This is a wonderful getaway for SoCal residents and
dog owners. The hosts are gracious, the
accommodations so charming. My Springer Spaniel
Riley enjoyed it as much (if not more) than I did. I, we,
will be back. Thanks Laurie!

Lovely place to spend a few quiet days. Very comfortable for both people and dogs. We enjoyed coffee in the morning on the patio and baking pizza in the wood burning pizza oven in the evening. Thank you for a great weekend.

I have to say this is truly one of the most beautiful ,
relaxing place I have been. I was desperatly looking
for a place I could go with my dog to relax, and that
is what just happen. The haylapa house was very
clean, well decorated, furnished with all the
aminities including cable tv and internet access. We
relaxed eating home made pizza by the fireplace,
drinking wine and able to watch the sopranos too!
What more can you ask for. I think Laurie and Lane
are amazing artist and truly talented, and thank
them so much for sharing their vision with us at the
Haylapa House. Thank you

Laurie,
Good morning. It was an honor to stay at the Haylapa House. It was the most relaxing and cozy place we have ever been to. We will be saving our money to visit sometime again this year. Thank you Laurie for the fresh flowers and candles. We enjoyed every minute we were there. Danny and I were blown away by all of the work and sacrifice you and Lane have put into the creation of the Haylapa House. Thank you once again for sharing this place with us. It is a privelige to be able to stay there. Thank you.

My wife and I, along with Sampson & Goliath (our two 90lb. four-legged children) returned this morning from a 2-night stay at the Haylapa House just 35 minutes east of San Diego. It is close enough to San Diego, yet far enough from the hectic city, lights traffic, and urban distractions to let you unwind.

The Haylapa House is a very unique, rustic, handmade round dwelling. It is a perfect location for rejuvenating, relaxing, hiking, etc. The entire 2.5 acres is fenced and there is an even smaller area fenced just around the Haylapa. The floor inside is made of intricate patterns and is accented by area rugs. There is a romantic, rustic feel to the entire property.

The property owners are great people and almost every piece of furniture is handmade by Mr. Roberts from twigs, trees, etc. and decorated with Mrs. Roberts' oil paintings. There are two bay windows with cushions so you can sit and read, enjoy the view, nap etc.

The view is spectacular and on a clear night you can see more stars than you ever thought possible. There are 3-5 restaurants, two small "general" stores, and a large casino within 15 minutes from the Haylapa. Several of the nearby restaurants have indoor and outdoor tables and patios where you can sit, relax, and eat. You can also bring your own food and cook inside with the stove, the microwave or outside in a large brick/adobe wood-burning oven reminiscent of early cooking by Native Americans.

We saw 4-5 inches of snow on Saturday night and anyone familiar with Southern California knows this is a rare occurrence. Our dogs didn't know what to think about the snow but within seconds they were playing in it. There are 5 very well-behaved dogs and 3 Mule/Horses on the Haylapa property.

This is a definite must-do for anyone who enjoy being outside. You can see photos and an excellent description of all the amenities at haylapa:com, or call (888)894-4626. Prices are very reasonable and well worth it to get away from the city.

Once again, this is a beautiful location, a unique dwelling (Haylapa), dog-friendly, and the Robert's will do anything to make your stay outstanding.
