Paradise found…..thank you for sharing this little slice of Colorado paradise. We enjoyed the pond most of all! What a perfect time of the year with all the spring colors, little calves and even minnows in the pond. ‘Twas absolutely fabulous. We look forward to returning and seeing another season.

We saw the pictures of Star Mesa online but we had no idea how beautiful it was until we got there. We’ve been all over Colorado and this is one of the most beautiful places we’ve seen. It is truly a Colorado paradise. We’ll definitely be back!

Autumn at Star Mesa could not have been more beautiful! We loved the golden leaves falling like snow; the fresh dusting of snow atop the peaks; the huge full moon; the howling of the coyote’s serenading us while we grilled dinner; a pleasant hike in the woods; and fishing the Arkansas. This house has all the comforts of home in a special setting. Thank you!

Thank you so very, very much for our terrific stay at your beautiful Star Mesa! It was so incredibly beautiful to be there on the property and the surrounding mountains were outstanding! The house was perfect for us and very comfortable and clean and open and airy. It was so great, I could not imagine anything better! Thanks so much and we will be back, although I am not entirely sure of exactly when... but we will be back!!! Thanks so much for everything!

I've stayed at dozens of VRBO/rental cabins, and I can say without hesitation that Star Mesa is at the very top of my list. The cabin itself is perfect: cozy and comfortable with a spacious cooking kitchen, a bathroom with character, and two simple, clean bedrooms. The woodburning stove added the perfect ambience -- and the provided wood was a wonderful convenience. The deck is where we spent the majority of our time -- reading, sunbathing, playing games, gazing at the mountains. Finally, having a fenced yard is a real coup for dog owners -- we could let our pooches romp without worry, and without threat to the surrounding wildlife. Personally, my favorite feature of Star Mesa was the pond. We canoed, we swam, we sunbathed on the deck ... It's the cleanest pond I've ever seen -- it was wonderfully refreshing and tranquil. I’m in my 50’s with two kids in high school and along with my wife, share a professional career and a good income, living in the Denver area. My family has been in Colorado since about 1860 and we love to ski, raft, backpack, hike and explore the hidden nooks and crannies in Colorado and the Rockies.
Several years’ ago we became acquainted with VRBO (Vacation rentals by owner), an internet site where we could locate homes to rent in places we wanted to explore. We have not yet been disappointed with the clean and comfortable homes we have been able to lease, whether somewhere along the coast, or here in Colorado. We feel the values have been very good for nice accommodations that allow us the privacy of a private home. Though a 2nd- home in a resort area appeals to us, we do not want to get tied down having to go back to the same area over and over to justify a 2nd home. Now that the real estate market is very flat nationally, a 2nd home investment is worth waiting out. Bingo! Renting a home makes a great deal of sense and fits our lifestyle better. Our 2nd home mortgage payment goes towards air fare to far away places and better travel toys, like snowshoes, skis and kayaks. There’s even enough left over to pad the kids’ college account.
I really hesitate to let the cat out of the bag on something I was trying to keep secret for myself, but I guess that would not be fair to the owner, Lawton Eddy. We stumbled in to Lawton’s Star Mesa property, near Salida, Colorado, while searching VRBO. We rented Star Mesa for about three nights late in the Fall and were thrilled. The ease of reservation, personal attention by Lawton, cleanliness and quality were unsurpassed. Star Mesa was a wonderful modern log home a short drive from Salida, hidden on about five wooded and pastured acres with mountain views from the good Lord. We could reach the Great Sand Dunes, Mt. Princeton Hot Springs, Monarch Ski Area, the Arkansas River, the Colorado Trail, Historic Salida and more with short drives. Star Mesa was wonderfully decorated and supplied. The stars at night were intense. The family gourmet dinners were a snap in the modern kitchen. Family board games were cozy with candles and the glowing wood stove nearby. Early mornings were either spent oversleeping in the comforter covered quality beds, or by sipping coffee on the porch watching the deer. We paddled a canoe around Lawton’s private pond and even saw a bobcat! All this for less money than staying at the Best Western in Glenwood Springs. I suggest you book some time with Lawton soon to use Star Mesa before it is found out by others and becomes too hard to get when you want it. Well, I guess I let the cat out of the bag – at least the bobcat!

My wifa and I stayed at Star Ranch in early August and we were delighted with our visit! The Coyotes sang us to sleep and the deer walking on the front porch woke us each morning. Salida, with the largest historic district of any Colorado town, is just 20 minutes away and the Arkansas River at the bottom of the hill was very accesable. You have to try the coffee at 'Bongo Billy's" with a deck right on the river. We sat and watch the Kayakers play in the riffs right in town while enjoying a good Espresso. We spent one entire day on the deck at Star Ranch waching a storm move across the mountains and reading. How relaxing.

Just Lovely!! The house was a short drive up into the mountains from Hwy 50 with great views and privacy. It was very quiet at night and the birds woke us up every monring. The house has every thing you need for a weeks stay. Our kids played in the little stream daily and the dogs loved the fenced yard. The pond was another bonus for short canoe floats. We were close enough to enjoy whitewater rafting on the Numbers and Big Horn sheep Canyon with our 10 year old and a day trip tp Pike's Peak. We had sucha great time we did not want to leave and considered the cabin "home". It was a great experience staying at Star Mesa.

Thanks for the opportunity to stay at your cabin. It was perfect - having a place that allows dogs is a huge bonus. The cabin is great, nice views of the Sangre de Cristos and the Arkansas valley. A great change of pace from Denver - very relaxing. Will plan on coming back later this summer.

The solitude and the gorgeous views of the valley are two of the major attractions for visitors to this wonderful property in the shadow of the Twin Sisters peaks. Although you're not more than 20 minutes away from the small downtown of Salida, you feel like you're in another world. Comfortable accommodations (including satellite TV and high-speed internet service), a nice warm wood stove and the abundant wildlife that frequents the area, made Star Mesa the perfect week long getaway for me.

Star Mesa is one word: paradise! Beautiful, clean, relaxing also come to mind. Our dog and 2 children had so much fun and these 2 parents just relaxed. We spent a lot of time on the porch, looking at the mountains and the pond. We went on hikes and also enjoyed a day trip to the Sand Dunes. We HIGHLY recommend it to anyone looking for an escape. One of the best gettaways we've ever had!

From guest book: What a perfectly wonderful house! And so creatively decorated. Also, a sublime location. We came for a rest and we had that, and some great sightseeing. Our beagle thought he died and went to heaven. We so hope we can return in the fall.
