We so enjoyed our stay at this wonderful little cabin. It was exactly what a cabin in the woods should be – cozy, secluded, and peaceful with beautiful scenery. It was so relaxing. We loved the creek and the hike up the hill to the waterfall (the granddaughters made us go twice!) and we enjoyed the cedar forest in the nearby national forest. We mostly spent time at nearby Bull Lake swimming and kayaking. We saw deer and hawks and it was exciting, if a bit scary, when we discovered a bear in the front yard (keep an eye on your dog!)
The cabin is accessed via a short drive on a gravel road and is fairly new, so is in good condition. It's simply, but comfortably, furnished and has pretty much everything needed for a casual, laid-back vacation. We weren't sure about access to grocery stores, etc. so we just carted in the food we needed in a cooler. Because of the extreme fire danger at the time, we weren't able to use the outdoor grill, but the kitchen is more than adequate for meal prep. There's a small TV and DVD player with some family movies (we took some also, plus lots of books), but we never even used then; we found so many other things to do instead. If we had a complaint, it’s that there was only one rocking chair on the porch – we always fought over who was going to get the rocker! (There were other chairs, tho.) The summer weather is very warm during the day and chilly at night (bring your swim suit and your flannel pj's!)
Lake Pend Oreille (ponderay) is a short drive into Idaho and worth a trip. The lake is beautiful and there are some good restaurants and large grocery stores for supplies. We spent the day and had fun, but couldn't wait to get back to the peace and quiet at the cabin. |
