October, 2009, I had the privilege of staying at Casa Eugenia in Figueria da Foz for 2 weeks. This was absolutely one of the best places I’ve stayed in a foreign country. The apartment was very convenient to the sights of the city and beach, but also in a very nice neighborhood. The city is very clean and friendly. The apartment was excellent for my extended stay. It was very clean, nice beds, and good atmosphere – I enjoyed cooking with the fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh meats from the local farmers markets. My apartment was fully equipped to cook and bake what I desired. The patios are lovely and very relaxing with gorgeous views as well as the nicely manicured yard and garden areas. I really felt like family, as John and Eugenia were very helpful in directing me to the things I needed or wanted. Their children were available to answer my many questions in English. For me this was totally awesome since I speak no Portuguese – This made it so easy for me. I really felt like I was coming “home” to my apartment at the end of each day. Between the awesome stay at Casa Eugenia and the wonderful people in this community, I had a fantastic 2 weeks! I would highly recommend this apartment to both experienced travelers and the new/green traveler. You will be treated like family!

Just recently stayed at Casa Eugenia... Portugal was amazing and we loved Figuiera Da Foz and the surrounding country side. What really made the trip a pleasure was the hospitality provided by John and Eugenia Carvalho. Its always difficult to travel to other countries for an extended amount of time. Everything seems so different and foreign but John and Eugenia made us feel like we were home. I have had the ability to travel to many countries and have experienced a number of different types of accommodations. Casa Eugenia ranks far above any where I have ever stayed. The Carvalhos constantly went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying every minute of your stay... If you plan on going to Portugal and plan on staying in or around Figueira Da Foz, be sure to stay at Casa Eugenia. You will absolutely love it!!!!!!!....... Thank you so much to John, Eugenia and David for making our time in Portugal one of the best experiences ever

Looking for a home away from home? This is it! Owners Eugenia and John were the most wonderful hosts and David kept us well informed of places to eat and visit within the surrounding areas. We booked 7 nights and stayed 8. Figueira da Foz is the perfect spot for day trips. I would not hestiate to recommend Casa Eugenia to anyone looking for a place to stay in Portugal but beware of the Ginja.
Thank you Papa John and Mama Eugenia for a truly memorable experience.

We had a wonderful time in Portugal and we hope to return some time. The people are so gentle and non-aggressive. Our time at Casa Eugenia was very special; our hosts were delightful. We were extremely comfortable in the apartment - we had lots of room and the attention to detail in every way was so touching and appreciated. We loved the garden – the fig trees, grape vines, tomatoes and lettuce, etc. What a treat. September was a great time to visit and Buarcos a good base to explore the surrounding countryside. We would be happy to recommend Casa Eugenia to anyone.

If you are looking for a place to stay that feels like home, this is the place! The location, facilities and hosts are beyond amazing. We travelled Portugal for 3 weeks, and the week we spent with John and Eugenia (along with a few days with Dolce and Alberto, and the phenomenal assistance from David), made our trip a truly memorable one. It truly felt like we stayed with family,

We stayed at this property from Figueira Da Foz for a one week period in May 2009 and really enjoyed it. It was perfectly located to visit the middle area of Portugal, from Fatima, Coimbra, Conimbriga, Aveiro and many more cities. We were 4 adults and it felt like being at home, with the superb view of the ocean in addition. We had the opportunity to cook our meals, received good advices from the owner of the facilities such as grocery, restaurants etc... Also, we really appreciated the kindness of the owners, Eugenia and her husband. Eugenia also had us taste her secret ''Ginja'', which was very good. We highly recommend this location to everybody, very nice place and people. |

Everything about our stay was wonderful! The Carvalhos were most gracious and provided for our every need/concern. Our total stay in Portugal, including the Azores, was a dream vacation thanks in large part to our first week spent at Casa Eugenia and the opportunity we had to orient ourselves there. We will have fond memories of it that will last us a lifetime.

Our week in Figueira da Foz was wonderful. The accomodations were comfortable and spotless. The views were magnificent and John and Eugenia took good care of us. Be sure to ask John to barbeque for you. The people of the neighborhood and area are friendly and it is easy to travel widely and see much.

John & Eugenia made our week in Buarcos a thoroughly pleasant experience and the perfect way to get to know Portugal. The apartment was comfortable, the front patio was nice and sunny in the morning, and the back patio was perfect for evening. The cool ocean breezes were constant. The plums and pears were a real treat, too. It's just a short walk down quaint streets to the beach -- perfect week for us!

We had a very nice week at Buarcos, early April 2007. We were made very welcome, the apartment is well equipped with front and back terraces to ensure all day sun. It has a new very modern kitchen and is in a good location. Our hosts were very kind, giving us fresh fruit and salad from their garden but were never intrusive. I can recommend the apartment without any reservations.

My partner, two grown up daughters and I experienced a lovely holiday in the apartment. It is very comfortable and welcoming and has everything you need to relax or prepare and enjoy meals out on its own terrace. It is situated in a quiet road above the town, five minutes stroll from the beach and the local market and shops. The terrace has its own stunning view of the sunset over the sea. The Carvalhos who live in a neighbouring apartment were wonderful and really looked after us without ever being intrusive. A real gem, highly reccomended.

My family and I spent two weeks at Figueria da Foz this summer. Figueira is a nice port with a wonderful beach, and a convenient city with all type of facilities and at close distance (35 minute drive) from other breathtaking places like Coimbra, Batalha, Aveiro, and Obidos. We had the opportunity to enjoy excellent Portugese food and participate in city fairs and festivities. Our stay in the Carvalho’s apartment was also a remarkable experience which exceeded our expectations. It is a new building, conveniently furnished and equipped. The apartment has a nice view to the ocean and surrounding mountains from a terrace where we enjoyed grilling sardines and spending long evenings chatting with Eugenia, the charming and unforgettable landlady who lives on the second floor of the building. I highly recommend the apartment and wish will have the opportunity to stay again there in the future.
