We owners cannot let our wildlife sightings go unmentioned.
These past few days, as during our last few stays here last month, we have enjoyed watching osprey as they majestically fly over our grassy area and swoop to the beach. The amazing sight we have seen four times now,is the osprey flying up from the beach carrying a fish in its claws!
Whales this summer swim past here and do not linger very long. But they can be seen south at Yachats from the City Park, where the whales hang out and feed.
We've enjoyed being here this month while the painters work on painting the house exterior! It was also nice to be here in May and June while they worked on some bathroom and hallway renovations and replacing south and west exterior siding.
We hate to go now. It's another gorgeous late summer day: sunny, clear, calm, dark blue ocean, blue sky, no clouds. We, too, enjoy sitting on our deck as we eat lunch and late afternoon enjoy snacks, and the gorgeous sunsets!

We have stayed in many places, but this one met our every need. I love the water, so watching it every morning and evening was wonderful. We had several beautiful sunsets.
Al is a 'life-birder' and added several new birds to his list.I think my best vision was at Seal Rock. That is how I will always remember this place.
As we stayed here and looked at your picture history, we appreciate how much of both of you are reflected in the house. You have spared nothing for the comfort of your guests. Thanks so much!

Jen and Lisa--sisters--here to celebrate our birthdays. What a spectacular view from a cozy/comfortable home. As others have stated in previous entries, we feel as if we know you. You have put your heart and soul into making this cabin a perfect place to relax, celebrate, cook, and just live. We felt so at home here.
We loved the long uncrowded beach! So nice for long, refreshing walks!
We enjoyed sitting on the deck every afternoon and we cooked some fabulous meals--very nice cookware! All the little extras made us feel welcome and safe: nightlights, super comfortable beds, exquisite sheets!!
We had nice meals in Newport at 'Sharks', 'The Drift Inn' in Yachats, and 'Waldport Seafood' in Waldport.
No whale sightings until the last morning, but at last we spotted a pod around 9 AM and saw a bunny hop across the lawn.
We hope to return soon!
Thanks again for the great place to relax and hang out. We enjoyed reading the journals from start to finish!

Thank you for renting this place-it made us feel at home. The view is beautiful, although the fog was sometimes
quite thick. Very magic in its own way. We enjoyed the beach, the seals, the woods, and several trips:
Three Capes, Newport area, Heceta Head and Cape Perpetua. The high tide at Cape Perpetua is so powerful!
We never saw so many hummingbirds..especially not
"around our dinner table"!
Thanks again and we hope to be back..perhaps to see the whales!

We have rented a lot of places in the US, but this tops the lot. A home, not a house. Comfortable, it has everything you need. Relaxing and enchanting views.
Plenty to see and do. We've had a great relaxing week
after 2 weeks on the road. living out of a suitcase.
Back on the road tomorrow.
Seen plenty of wildlife, truly awesome. Saw a bald eagle but I think the whales must have sneaked by in the night.
A great place just a pity about the fog. But it didn't spoil our stay. Loved the "Year in Provence" videos.
comment from owners: the Eastern Pacific got warmer
due to El Nino, so the whales moved somewhere to cooler waters. We hear the water is warm and people have seen porpoises playing in the breakers!

Back again after 2 years ago at this same time. Had a
very sunny day on my birthday (Tom). Good time to stop
at Sea Lion Caves for our first visit to that attraction. Lots of wildlife there.
We walked the beach out front for miles. Played 'Sandpines' (golf course at Waldport) Friday and both had a great time (lowest rounds ever). Old Town Florence. Yesterday, took 'in the seafood sale at Ray's and Coast Aquarium in Newport (Oddwater exhibit is new). And of course, the beach.
We'll be back.. Thanks.

Thanks so much for sharing your home with us! We had a great time! The weather was cloudy and cool but it certainly didn't stop us from enjoying the wonderful beach.
We visited glass-blowing shops in Lincoln City, the Aquarium in Newport, the Sea Lion Caves in Florence,
but the time we spent at "home" was the best part of
our trip. The girls had a blast flying kites in the
soft sand!
One evening we were treated to a fantastic show by
the whales--right past the breakers!
Thank you again for allowing us to stay at your
"coast home". We look forward to coming again. We've
been up and down the Oregon Coast but this was our
favorite spot!

On our first evening here, we watched the crescent moon rise, the red sun set, and a deer grazing in our front garden. Magical for the kids and for us!

Every time we travel we stay at one location and drive to see the sights in the area. From Waldport as our base, we took day trips to Tillamook Cheese Factory where we savored the delicious ice cream. Yum! Other trips we made a few times each: Newport Bay Front; Cape Perpetua; Florence; and many, many long walks on the beach including into Waldport where we spent a few hours watching the fishermen in the bay and harbor seals while standing on the bridge. We got some awesome photos of harbor seals and the bald eagle.
We also went to Eugene to meet Betsy and CHris for lunch. We'd gotten to know each other from emails and phone calls and wanted to meet each other. It was a fun afternoon with a beautiful walk through Hendricks Park where we took many photos of the beautiful rhododendrons, azaleas, cala lilies, and other flowering plants. We have nothing like these in Arizona.
Especially wonderful were the two weeks spent here with cool temperatures, cloudy skies, sun, and rain. We enjoy the change from the intense sun and heat of Arizona!
Thanks for letting us use your wonderful coast home. We'll be back again soon.

We spent Valentine's Weekend here and had such a lovely time. We were blessed with sunshine most of the time and loved exploring the beaches.
We made delicious crab Louie's Saturday night and with such a wonderfully stocked house, we weren't surprised to find supplies to crack crabs!
This house was above and beyond what we hoped for!! What a delightful, warm, cozy house, filled with love.

We had one day of beautiful weather. Rick got some 'string time' with his kite. The sea was calm, and I enjoyed walking the beach. BIG winds on Tuesday...we'd rather stay snuggled-in than brave the roads.
This is one of the best equipped vacation homes we've stayed in. We so appreciated the great king-size bed, and all the other 'extras' like cutting boards, blankets, reading lights, etc... The view is wonderful too! We will be back.....

The week went by so fast! We had a great time exploring the Oregon Coast with Mike and Betsy and boys. I think we 'did it all'.
We appreciated our wonderful accommodations here at your beautiful place. Having our cabin in MN, we know it takes a lot of upkeep. You have it all organized so well.
As I am writing, the whales are spouting quite close--at least 3 of them.
The dune buggy ride (at Florence) just about did me in, but it will be a lasting memory for the boys!
We enjoyed crab for our last evening meal and then headed to the beach for a fire while Mike and Betsy slipped away for an anniversary dessert at The Adobe.
It was all great!!

We have had a great time at your home and at the coast this week! We had a couple of gorgeous, sunny days where I have basked in the sun on the beach while reading a good book (my perfect vacation!) while our girls played and played and played for hours. They couldn't get enough of the beach and the ocean. We broke away a couple of times to visit The Oregon Coast Aquarium (shark week!) and The Sea Lion Caves.
Our week couldn't have been more relaxing, interesting, and comfortable. I feel like I'm home here--thanks for creating such a comfortable and cozy place--and for sharing it with so many grateful people!
We watched whales for quite a while one morning--I think it is the first time I've seen whales while staying at your house. It was fun to show them to with the girls.
We also really enjoyed finding the grassmat in the closet! It came in very handy during my moments of basking and reading.
We also can't get over how comfortable your beds are! You know you are having a good vacation when you wake up feeling like you've been sleeping on a cloud.

I've looked forward to returning to your beach home for a year, and our second visit was`as wonderful at the first. We enjoyed long walks on the beach, crabbing, lighthouses, drives along the coast, Newport, Yachats, and a hike up Cape Perpetua. We saw whales, rabbits, a deer, squirrels, eagles, a snake, and a bear! The bear came visiting at night and I saw him walk right past the bedroom window after he had knocked over the neighbor's trash can!
We have really enjoyed our visit--this really is a little piece of heaven on earth. Many memories have been made this week. Until next time.

Arrived to cool, breezy weather here after suffering thru 100+ weather in Boise. It was so nice to sleep in cool weather!
Had a lovely week as usual and did a lot of the usual things: hiking the 804 Trail, walking on the beach, and just relaxing. Had an interesting time at the wharf in Waldport watching people fish for crabs--got a lesson on it from a sweet old man who's there regularly.
Saw the usual array of animals which we`always enjoy and spotted a bald eagle for the first time! In Florence saw a mother deer and spotted a baby fawn right by the road.
Went to Coos Bay to the Shore Acres State Park--beautiful and relaxing..(gardens on the Simpson Estate)
As`always, thanks for a lovely place to go "on holiday". We enjoyed ourselves so much.
Looking forward to the next holiday!

What a treat it's been to stay here the last two nights! Thank You!
Your coast home is so lovely--everything we'd hoped for and more. The several months leading up to our stay here passed so slowly, as we waited out winter and spring in Minnesota. And of course, once we got here the time raced by.
Thursday, June 19th was amazing. Warm, cloudless sky--perfect. The beach thrilled us and our daughters! Early to bed where we slept beautifully.
Friday, June 20th was our Ella's 13th birthday! The dense overcast didn't dampen our spirits; spent time on the beach, played cards, nice dinner, movie, another great sleep. And we have to go already? Boo! Oh well...maybe another visit? Hope so. Thanks again!

Always a perfect pleasure getting to your house after 3 days in the road! It's almost like coming home for us, it's been our third stay.
Had lots of cold weather, lots of long walks on the beach, around Yachats, Seal Rock, and also some hiking at Cape Perpetua.
We also had 2 days of sun, sun and 65, unreal how fast the weather can change!
It was a wonderful 2 weeks stay as always.

What a treat to drive all the way from Portland to Waldport with rain. The drive on Hwy 34 was SPECTACULAR. The moss covered and dense green forests are just so beautiful and I got to see a 'covered bridge', which was so beautiful......
We pulled up to your house and our hearts leaped with excitement. When we came inside we felt so at home, and the moment we opened the front shades---Ah, this is PERFECT! What a View!.....................................
Favorite Things while here?
1. Sitting in the chair and staring at the ocean.
2. The fireplace.
3. Walks on the beach.
4. The green forest atmosphere next to the ocean.
5. Exploring lighthouses and tidal ponds.
6. Crabbing.
7. Eating crab and chowder every day.
8. Slowing down.
11-24...beautiful, but sad day. We don't want to leave!
As the fire crackles out, it reminds us our time has come to an end in this lovely place. By far our best vacation ever!

The weather was great our whole stay! The first few days were very warm and clear. What we looked forward to and accomplished was having no agenda other than to have fun. We`were able to completely relax and let the busy schedule and packed itineraries fall away as we walked on the beach and explored the small towns.

The only thing disappointing about our time here is that we couldn't stay longer....It's been wonderful. You have done so much to make your home into a tranquil and comfortable place. Hard to believe it's been 13 years since we've been here!
We had a great time experiencing everything with our daughters. We spent our two nights walking the beach gathering 'treasures' and jumping waves. It was pretty drizzly during the one day we were here so we explored Newport (Undersea Gardens, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and of course, ice cream and candy shops!)
We all had a blast and a very memorable mini-vacation. We hope to be able to come again soon and spend a lot more time here.

Gerri is currently looking at your "Best of the Best From Oregon" cookbook and wishing she has a copying machine. We've brought chowder home with us on our trips up and down the coast, have breakfasted here, late lunched on our trips, and brought something home for evening snacks (usually chowder, salad, and bread). Your kitchen is so well equipped and Gerri loves to cook so we may have cioppino for dinner tonight with seafood from the Waldport Fish Market. (John)
This house is more than exceptional--clean, nicely furnished and decorated, and the deck and the view are 'dynamite'.So far--one day in Florence & Sand Dunes and one day beach & Yachats. Only one day of sunshine, but as John said, "that's Okay". Coming from New Mexico we get plenty of sun and really appreciate the luxury of moisture in the air. The saying goes, "All good things must come to an end"...what a shame that is time to say 'goodbye' already. We have had a wonderful time cramming in as much activity as possible.
Your house is marvelous and we have enjoyed our 'home away from home' very much.
We saw whales within an hour of our arrival. We really enjoyed walks on the beach, drives along the coast, visiting the aquarium, and the seafood!

We`are back again and had a wonderful time doing and seeing different things. Thank you for making your 'homey' beach house available. We arrived on Thursday, July 12th to warm sunshine and walked along the beach barefooted in shorts and short-sleeved shirts. We`sat on the deck, had a wonderful meal, and watched an awesome sunset.
On Friday we went on a whale watching excursion out of Depoe Bay with Carrie Newell. She is a professor at OSU Marine Science Center, has written a book about gray whales, and worked with Jacque Cousteau's son on a whale trip. It was sunny, short-sleeve weather and we headed out to sea in an inflatable Zodiac. There was a slight breeze and the ocean was very calm-almost like being on a lake. We`saw an interesting stellar sea lion sunning himself on a buoy. One of the largest sea lions we have ever seen! And then we saw a 40 foot+ gray whale, close to our boat, who seemed just as curious about us as we were about him. His head came out of the water first and we could see his eye looking at us, then his back rolled across the top of the water and the fluke. Every 6 minutes he came to the surface for air. What an awesome creature!
On Saturday we played golf at Crestview Hills golf course....a fun challenge. ..Fixed dinner at the house and saw a 'dinner show'--a whale breaching beyond the surf! We had such a perfect view--and thought he was performing just for us!
We will always remember this trip with the magnificent whales! Thanks again...

We have had an absolutely delightful time here in Waldport at your lovely beach house! Thank you for making your place available and providing everything needed in the kitchen and beyond.
We saw whales! A first for us along with bald eagle, the delightful rabbits, hummingbirds, and deer (who came right through the front yard while I was sitting on the deck, which happened to be my very favorite spot each morning for a coffee....
Oh, how we wish there were more days in this week--it seems we have just 'scratched the surface' of enjoying your lovely Oregon Coast. We enjoyed exploring the beaches, lighthouses, and we even ventured down to the dunes for a dune buggy ride!
...we are celebrating our 10th anniversary here and our week here is better than we could have imagined! Thank you again, and perhaps we will be able to travel back again one day!

WOW! "Home, Sweet, Home'! is how we felt driving up the driveway. Has it really been so long, and how does that happen? Heaven is here on earth! And, maybe a little more right here.

An especially nice visit since we had our kids with us and the weather cooperated wonderfully! Hit all the usual haunts and good restaurants. The kids did lots of running on the beach since our son is training for another half triathlon and son-in-law is taking a physical test for the police force. It has been a rainy week here at the house. The rain stopped for about an hour each day. We drove to Wildlife Safari in Winston, up to the lookout at Cape Perpetua in the snow, and up to see the sights in Depoe Bay where we bought a lovely photo of the Yaquina Bay Bridge. We celebrated our birthday with dinner at The Adobe. The view was beautiful.....

Once again, thanks for a wonderful stay at your coast home. We surely had our share of weather which we totally enjoyed. Snow on the beach was a new one for us! Your kitchen is so well-equipped, perfect for people like us who enjoy cooking in as much as eating out. I loved your cookbooks and the notes re: the recipes. I tried a couple with salmon and halibut and we enjoyed both. I ordered a Best of the Best of Oregon cookbook this morning.
We loved the antique and collectible mall in Waldport. I found an old potato masher to add to my collection.
I'll be sending you a copy of my Lavender Cookbook to add to your home or beach home collection. We would have loved to have stayed another week. We really didn't want to leave.

What a surprise to discover that the cottage we stayed in when I was younger is one of the ones just south of the Sand Castle House! No wonder the beach was 'familiar'!
The weather was great this week. Even though it was breezy, it never seemed chilly...well, except at night! Sunshine every day, just a hint of fog in the early a.m. Sat in the morning sunlight Tuesday and got a touch of sunburn. Somehow, I managed not to get sunburned during all the hot days in the valley, but got it the 1st day on vacation!
We took your advice and ate at Dan O's. BIG portions and very tasty! Thanks!!

We were there for a Symposium, a study session where we studied Chaucer and poetry and history of the language with a professor friend of my sister's from Cape Cod. We also did art lessons and ate a lot of good food.
