| For those seeking rest and quiet, Casa Alessandra is perfect. The views are beautiful and the accommodation a delight. There is a well stocked, friendly shop in nearby Pognana although for proper self-catering, I recommend the excellent supermarkets in Como (30 min drive away). The town of Como itself is very nice with the old town and Duomo particularly worth a look. Molto grazie Alex e Angelo! |

| Lake Como was our first stop in our first visit to Italy. We had no idea what to expect and were awestruck by our luck at having snagged such a great place to begin our journey. Casa Alessandra was the perfect place to acclimate to the country and culture. The views were spectacular, the pace was relaxed, and the accommodations were just what our family was looking for. The location was central making it easy to explore the area, with its fairy tale villages. Careno itself was a joy to explore. Its walking only lanes wound through the ancient stone village. We enjoyed food shopping locally for many meals eaten in the apartment, as well as sampling the tasty local cuisine in the local restaurants. Alessandra was an easy person to deal with from the original booking process, to making sure that we were comfortable in her place. We realize how lucky we were to have found this gem in Italy. |

| My family stayed in the house for a week in June 2006. The house is a nice mixture of modern conveniences and an old-fashioned, beautiful feel. We enjoyed the village, hiking in the mountains and fishing in the lake. The owners helped us to settle in. Their good English made a difference, as they could answer all our questions about the area and the village and the house. It's a nice, comfortable place to stay, which I recommend for anybody seeking rest and relaxation. |

We had a wonderful time during our stay at Casa Alessandra. From its views of Lake Como from every window, to a fully stocked kitchen that allowed us to stay in and make our own pasta and risotto, the accommodations were perfect for our kind of traveling. The property was clean and appeared to have been recently renovated. The owners were very accommodating and thoughtful, and extremely flexible since we decided at the very last minute to come to Lake Como. For those considering a stay outside of Bellagio, Careno provides a nice alternative location that is away from the tourists and yet connected by water to the towns in both directions by having its own ferry dock. By car, Como is about 30 minutes away, and Bellagio is about 20.
If you are looking for a place to just relax and unwind, we would fully recommend a stay at Casa Alessandra!

Casa Alessandra is a magical place. Inside ancient walls is a beautiful modern home, airy and full of light with plenty of room and high ceilings. There are views of the lake from every room--even the bathroom in a unique way. The outdoor upstairs private balcony/terrace with table and chairs is a jewel. It's the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine and bit of cheese as the day winds day and the sun is setting, at night when the lights across the lake twinkle like fireflies, or in the early morning for a first coffee to start the day. Light streams into the home from the high windows and cool breezes bring fresh air into the bedrooms. Careno is a quiet town and on the more undiscovered side of the lake, which we liked. A shopkeeper we met in Belliago was surprised when we told her we were staying in Careno. She told us we were lucky to be staying in the quiet undiscovered village since there are no hotels there. It is a pedestrian only village, so if stairs and walking are a problem for you, this might not be your ideal place. But for us a little walking (though short high arched ancient tunnels and up handhewn rock steps) to get to this wonderful place was part of the magic. There are two beautiful churches in the village and a very friendly and good restaurant near the pier, where you can catch a boat to other parts of the lake. Peppo's Bar not too far away on the main road offers a great view of the lake and the staff and patrons are friendly, which makes it a nice place to enjoy a glass of wine with the locals. Casa Alessandra is a wonderful private getaway and a great value for the price. We will return. |
