| We loved our time at Traumerie and are making plans to return next summer. The cottage is a very special place -- a work of love; an old lady of the sea that has been restored and updated beautifully. The artist-owner (Claire) is a hoot and a half, and the caretaker (Dave) -- who masterfully re-built much of the cottage -- is very friendly and helpful (and has the cutest three-legged dog named Kareena). We filled the cottage to the brim (4 adults, 4 kids aged 12-16) but always had space. The screened front porch is a slice of heaven, looking down an expansive field to the private beach and waters of Penobscot Bay. The grounds are beautiful; the space is very private; and the Mussel Ridge channel provides a parade of boats, from three-masted schooners, luxury yachts with spinnakers in bloom, to the many lobster boats that use Owl's Head Harbor (an-honest-to-goodness, picturesque, old-style, working lobster port). The many offerings of Rockland, Rockport and Camden are easily reached by heading north on Rt 1, as are Tenant's Harbor and Port Clyde by going south. We felt the cottage was magical inside and out, and was perefctly situated to explore up and down the coast. Because the cottage is close to a working lobster fleet, and the bedrooms face east, most of us were up quite early -- with sun streaming in and the lobster boats motoring out. We did not plan on such early starts; they just happened in keeping with the rhythym of the place. Another unexpected experience was the nearby Owl's Head Lighthouse foghorn -- we all adjusted to the sound, which in a good fog is pretty well muffled. We left with wonderful memories, and with our bodies and souls filled with Maine. We can't wait to go back. |

Well...where to begin??? This cottage is one of the most special places we have ever stayed. It is comfortable, cozy, and relaxing. Everything we needed was there. It is just what an ocean cottage should be. I loved the simplicity of it along with the artsy flair. Sitting down by the water was so peaceful. Hunting for "treasures" was very special. The area is nice and quiet. We had the beach just down the road completely to ourselves. Claire (the owner) is a unique, and very warm lady. She made sure we had everything we needed and it was perfect for us. Fresh flowers, beautiful music playing as we arrived, a nice note with suggestions on where to eat, visit, etc. Once you stay at Traumerei you are guaranteed to want to come back. The only negative thing I can say is the time went by too quickly and we had to leave. Traumerei is going to stay in our hearts forever. Twinkles Clairee! |

My family (2 adults, 3 children and our beloved black lab) spent a delightful week in August at Traumerei. The location was wonderful with views of the water from most every window, a large lawn leading down to the water and a very peaceful and quiet (we never saw another soul) rocky beach with views of the harbor and islands.
The cottage, itself, could not have been more suitable for us. We had brought along a family friend and there was plenty of space to spread out for privacy, while still managing to feel very warm and cozy. The cottage boasts 3+ bedrooms, two full baths, eat in kitchen, large living room, cozy den with fireplace (which we actually used one evening!), a large screened in porch, a sizeable deck, and a wonderful outdoor patio with table and chairs next to the grill.
The cottage was very clean with all the amenities one needs to spend time away from home. (The washer and drier was a definite bonus!) All cooking utensils, coffee pot, towels (in abundance), linens and beach chairs were provided for our comfort.
I would also like to add that we were fortunate to meet the owner of the property as well as the caretaker who were both very accommodating in helping us with any questions we had during our stay, whether it concerned the house or recommendations for restaurants or sightseeing. They were always available, but never intrusive.
We enjoyed our stay so thoroughly that we are hoping to return to this little slice of heaven next summer!

| We loved our stay at this property! The view is absolutely spectacular, and the location is great. The cottage is just what a Maine getaway should be -- rustic but perfectly comfortable and well-equipped, decorated with quaint touches and the artist/owner's own charming and whimsical artwork. A special place. |
