Time to reconnect, gaze at the stars, talk about the future.
Went to Bowling Ball, but also it was hight tide, looks like it would have
been magnificent. Had a lovely drive to Pt. Arena, walked the grounds and
relaxed..and the end of each day, in the tub, soaking til we were limp..
amazing.

What a perfect weekend! Your cottage has an amazing view that is so
relaxing and ever changing. Last night we were treated to a clear sky full of
stars and the sliver of a moon reflecting across the water.
Thank you for all the extra touches. The art supplies, CDs and books were

We are so happy to know your cottage is here to come back to. My
husband and I go home today relaxed and refreshed.

We had a lovely time at the ocean cottage. It was exactly what we were
looking for; ocean views, hiking trails, & art galleries!
Tom- thanks so much for all of your hiking trail recommendations. We
would have never found them all without your help.
Our second to last day, August 20th, was the best. The sun broke through
in the afternoon and we visited Bowling Ball Beach. Besides the "bowling
balls", we were intrigued by the tracks of rocks that looked like prehistoric
roads into the surf. We wondered aloud if we were straddling the San
Andreas Fault?
While eating dinner that same night, we spotted a whale spout at
approximately 7:30. We spotted several more over a 15 minute period. Our
dinner went cold - but it was worth it. We hope to be back!

Our highlights were the whales, deer and beautiful blue water beaches.
Glass beach was neat, too. (and, of course, the jacuzzi)
It would be great to experience the atmosphere during storm season -

Last night from the spa we saw the starry night and it was amazing. The contrast between the darkness of the sky and the brightness of the billion of stars was incredible. Plus, there was just enough moon to shine its reflection on the ocean.
During the day, we saw hundreds of birds migrating in a group. Birds flew by for at least 20 minutes.

My hubby loves the ocean. We sat outside and soaked up the sun, appreciated each wave and their sounds, and watched three hawks soar and dance to what we thought was to our Santana music. We've been married 18 years and each time we get away to the coast it just makes our relationship that much more strong. During our brief chat we established that we had little artistic creativity. After three days at your cottage we have to report that it remains stunted, burrowed deep beyond daylight.
We are competent in other ares of life, thank goodness, please don't pity us too much.

What a remarkable way to re-calibrate the senses. The sound of booming
surf and wind in pines to rock you to sleep. What a refreshment for the eyes-
-witnessing such sudden and radical changes in the weather--rain turned to
fog turned to apricot sunset and then back to rain again. And we will not
soon forget the feeling of cold, hard rain pound faces from the safety &
warmth of a candlelight hot-tub.

Your cottage was exactly what we hoped for: a comfy place to get away from our busy lives & have serious R & R! Well stocked, ample supplies provided.
To note: having the incoming phone number posted near the phone (OWNER NOTE: it is now, thanks for the suggestion) & also, in our case due to an ill child back home & no cell service, it would be nice after you confirm reservations to give the cottage phone # to your guest to leave w/ family back home in case of emergency. If we'd known in advance of no cell service we'd have requested a number where we could have been contacted.
other than that-
it was lovely-totally relaxing...
---OWNERS' NOTE: the confirmation email both gives the cottage's phone number and states that cell phones will not work in the cottage, but, if you have Verizon, will work in town and we suggest having a calling card...we regret that the guests did not see that information.

Our summer house was in the middle of the forest overlooking mountains and valleys. At the foot of the mountain lay the city of Beyrout in all its glory, at the edge of the Mediterranean. At night the city would sparkle as if and Arab sheik has sprinkled tons of precious stone: diamonds, emeralds, rubies.
An army of yachts would litter the sea and the eye would see them as far as the horizon and my imagination would work overtime: I would think of the pirate ships that would travel aimlessly around the world without docking anywhere, carrying treasures and beautiful women who were escaping their families.
Your cottage setting gave me the opportunity to remember some of the most beautiful moments of my life. It gave me the chance to transport myself into a magical world, but yet gave me real pleasure at the moment, in the "NOW."
The Studio Discovery Tour intensified the pleasure of the vacation, especially when we fell in love with a painting in pastels, which we proceeded to purchase.
We had many breathtaking moments while we drove to Fort Bragg and Mendocino, but we were both very excited to come back to the comfort of the cottage.
We stopped for fresh vegetable and fruits, fish and cheeses. We cooked dinners, made soups, and ate mostly at the cottage.
We discovered how beautiful the sky was after everyone turns off the lights and goes to bed. Millions of stars. We actually saw shooting stars and made wishes.
We also enjoyed interacting with Tom, who is a charming host.
This was a relaxing, restful, exiting and peaceful vacation.
We hope the next guests will be inspired and will have fun.

We're not graphic artists, but readers and did as advised by the Independent Booksellers Association - Eat, Sleep, Read.
Great dinner at St. Orres - two lunches at Bones (yum). All other meals cooked and eaten "in."
Very much enjoyed "The Mendonomans" and the Gualala history. Saw the gravesite of the original Robinsons.
Spent about 80% of our conscious hours on the deck the first week-Like being in the pit of the Globe Theater in Shakespeare's time- birds on all the stages above and below us.

Our first trip to the Northern Calif coast brought many pleasant surprises. We had no idea the weather would be so cool, and the ocean so calm. The various climate zones are fascinating as you go from upper 50's on the coast to 80+ in the wine country.
The Pacific Coast Highway is everything we hoped for. So different than the east coast!
We came here to relax for a few days, and the cottage was the perfect spot. Neat, clean, well furnished and equipped, and my wife says thank God for the gas stove!
For those who may read these notes on the internet, rest assured that his property is as described and a great value.
It's interesting to note that most of the guests actually live in metro areas of California. We took a much greater leap of faith-all the way from Northern Vermont!
We'll think about this lovely spot when we get back to Vermont and the August temps rise into the muggy 80's, and again in January when it's 30 degrees below zero.

So did Echo (their dog). I think his favorite spot was Cook's Beach (although Echo calls it "dog beach"). Echo loved sitting on the top step, gazing out at the ocean, his nose constantly picking up new, exciting smells. Thhis cottage is amazing! We loved the view and the sounds of the ocean was so relaxing and hypnotic. I used the chalk & oil pastels. I made our children a gift, using the oven bake sculpture clay. We loved the CD collection, especially the "Gypsy" CD.
Thank you for the tips to the secret beaches. Our favorite was Bowling Ball Beach. We drove thru Anchor Bay & Point Arena to explore the area.
The Hot Tub was perfect with a wonderful view.
We will make this a "regular" spot when we vacation in Mendo County again.
We are leaving a phone card for future guests. It has 100 minutes left. Cya next time.

The superlatives can't cover the constant moving scene from the deck. We are in awe/ Capped by our visit to "Dog" beach where as soon as we sat , an osprey appeared from nowhere and exploded into the surf in front of us carrying off this prey. Wow! We'll be back! Mike

When we read about Tom & Susan's cottage by the ocean from the comfort of our computer at home in Austin, Texas--we really could not imagine how breathtaking the visit would be. Each detail of the cabin and its amenities were carefully & lovingly provided: great bed and flannel sheets (dark green to mirror the lush of the pine trees), lavender soap to refresh our bodies, good coffee waiting to be brewed & a clean open environment at our fingertips.
Though we did venture north to Mendocino and then some wineries on Hwy 128 near Elk, we got just as excited to be "coming home" to our cabin that seemed to be as high up as an eagle's nest. The gas-fed stove heated the rooms effortlessly and the flames that tickled the wood were fun to watch after the sun faded into the water.
We plan to come back here to soak again in the hot tub and listen to the waves rise and fall against the shore. Thank you Tom & Susan for providing us with your intimate oasis by the sea.

As all of your previous guests, we have enjoyed our stay immensely. The
view from the cottage is beyound words and the cottage itself was perfect.
We enjoyed using some of the art supplies. The chararcter to the left means
"thank you" in Chinese. (referring to an attached notecard)
Your green folder was very helpful. We checked out many of the trails, secret
beaches, and other points of interest! Being able to take a relaxed stroll on
an expansive , pristine beach with no one else around was an amazing
experience. We enjoyed watching the birds from the room.... hopefully I will
see a whale next time ! We also love your photos.
As a parting gift, I have left you a copy of my most recent CD, "East
Facing" (2007) and a copy of a limited release CD from another project called
vidyA, as you expressed an interest earlier; I hope you enjoy them. (I do,
thank you very much) Donna has left you a little whale on the window sill as
well. ( it will be waiting your return )

Crazy,that's how life gets sometimes with work, kids, spouses, and responsibilities. This was a wonderful place for David & I to celdbrate our 20th wedding
anniversary.
It was a great way to completely unplug from our hectic schedules and just
smell the sea brezze, feel the sea breeze, and watch for whales. We didn't see
any, but it was fun!

From the moment we saw the place, we both loved it. You have an excellent
view of the ocean and surrounding trees form the deck. It was very peaceful and
serene. The place was designed very well with the bedroom facing the french
doors overseeing the ocean. This is the first time my wife and I have stayed in
Mendocino County and we will never forget this experience.
Thank you for suggesting the secret beaches and restaurants. We've gone to St.
Orres and enjoyed the food there.

the way you laid out and furnished the interior... The kitchen has a spacious,
open, practical and FUN feeling...We loved the live studio/work/loft feeling of
the room....From your art supplies and my magazines and brochures I created
a collage for our 25th wedding anniversary...It was a lot of fun to explore
your cabinets with the many supplies - I could have stayed two weeks or
longer and never run out of materials with which to create something...We

If we had to pick one word to describe our visit it would be "AMAZING." We arrived at 10PM weary from our travel. Our weariness quickly vanished as we sat in the hot tub under a beautiful canopy of stars. "When we arrived we smelled the salt air, we heard the ocean crashing below us and the water stretched to the horizon like a mighty slab of jade. We knew that we had found something special. It was beautiful and relaxing. Nothing is more inspirational that the beauty of nature. This loft was like having a front row seat. It was really nice to be in an "art friendly" place. We will be back.

"What a wonderfully incredible time!! Thank you sooo much-we loved everything; the views, the sound of the ocean, the raven, the sunsets, the champagne, the eggs, the photos(one of which will soon be in our house), the binoculars-we saw some great nature scenes, the hot tub, the little green book-couldn't have done without it & we added a menu, the dog friendliness, and the good energy--so peaceful and healing. Thanks for all the extra little touches.

"We had such a relaxing weekend, that going home is hard. We took our dog Otis to the beach where he ran crazy for an hour. Then a nice trail walk later that afternoon. Your studio is a little piece of heaven."
