| This was my sixth trip to San Miguel, and I found the accommodations in lovely casita Azar at Quinta Recreo to be the best yet! The house is bright, sunny, and quiet, with a spacious living room and kitchen and lovely views from the patio right outside the kitchen door. The kitchen even has a little alcove with a desk and a window, and there are views of the lush gardens from every room. Perfect for writing! Plus, it's only a short walk to the center of town. I would highly recommend this casita for writers and hope to return again next year. |

I loved staying in my casita, Casita Jasmine, at the Quinta Recreo. It is a little bit of paradise in the midst of the urban area San Miquel de Allende. And this is one of its great advantages. It is located within very close walking distance of all activities of the town but it is situated on a quiet street along the upper edge of the town, yet not so high up as to be difficult or time-consuming to navigate the hill down to the main square.
It was paradise to me because of the gorgeous garden in which the casitas are arranged behind the privacy of the property's gated walls. I awoke in this garden every day to the pleasant songs of birds. And every evening, I lingered for a little while in my casita's own sweet garden, within the larger garden, to take in the soft fragrance of the many beautiful flowering plants that are to be found there. I also loved to take my breakfast or spend some time reading on my casita's terrace surrounded by this lovely garden.
Although there are other casitas within the compound, I never found this to be a disadvantage. In fact, when, on rare occasion, I did bump into someone, it was always a pleasure to spend some time getting to know them.
The casita itself is very charming. It had wood-burning fireplaces in the living room and bedroom, a big bathroom with a dressing room, and a very adequate, small kitchen with everything I needed. Besides this, the angles and multi-levels of the unsusual layout of the rooms together with a combination of beautiful antiques, stone, colors, and the wonderful funkiness of other aspects of the casita were very appealing to me.
My hosts, Ildiko and Federico, were extremely helpful and provided me with tons of helpful advice and assistance during my stay. I have stayed in another group of casitas in San Miguel, but while they were nice, I would definitely choose instead to stay at Quinta Recreo again without hesitation. |

| We just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at Quinta Recreo during our last few days in San Miguel. We loved it there; Casita Jazmin was comfortable, charming and very pleasant. Ildiko obviously has a flair and style for being the "hostess" of Quinta Recreo. We highly recommend it!!! |

I recently spent a delightful three weeks at Quinta Recreo. From the start,I knew my trip to SMA was going to be full of pleasant surprises based on my arrival at Quinta Recreo. Passing through the wooden doorway you are surpised by a beautiful central garden and are quickly greeted by the very hospitable host Ildiko. The eight quiet casitas that surround the garden each have their own patio and personality. You quickly feel at home in SMA knowing you made a very good lodging choice. Your hosts Ildiko and Federico are always nearby and willing to provide helpful advise on shopping, resturants and sightseeing. Located in the "El Chorro" area, Quinto Recreo could not be better situated. Just a few minutes walk to the park, an easy "flat" 10 - 15 minute walk to the Jardin, Art Institute, Belles Artes and all the resturants and shopping SMA offers. I look forward to my return to SMA and Quinto Recreo. |

San Miguel is home to many fine lodging places. But if you are a visitor who is budget-conscious, aesthetically-sensitive, and historically-minded, you cannot beat Quinta Recreo.
From the moment your hosts open the lovely wooden door, you know you are at a very special place, and you will be enchanted by the beauty of Quinta Recreo, with its extraordinary flowers, gardens, and trees.
If you want a bit of heaven, have a glass of wine on your casita patio, absorbing the scents, sounds, and sights of nature, especially the jacaranda trees with their purple blossoms (March). And the magnificent white egrets are everywhere!
Ildiko and Federico are marvelous hosts, eager to help but always respectful of the privacy of their guests, and Ildiko's artistic sensitivty is found everywhere--what an amazing touch she has.
This is a place well taken care of, and no wonder: it has been in Federico's family since 1945. Even more special, the beautiful casitas are graced by paintings, drawings, and other works of art by Federico's parents, Sonia and Enrique Cervantes. This place has an amazing history, perhaps best exemplified by the friendship of the Cervantes family with the famous Canadian painter York Wilson, who wrote fondly of their experiences there in the 1950s.
Quinta Recreo is located in a lovely section of San Miguel, El Chorro. Within two blocks you will find several outstanding restaurants and a magnificent park, beautiful with its fountains and trees and vegetation. The park is wonderful for morning walks or jogs.
Our respite from a harsh northern winter was more rejuvenating than we ever dreamed. The beauty of Quinta Recreo, along with the warmth and kindness of Ildiko and Federico, will make you return, just as we will. And as soon as possible!

Quinta Recreo is a very lovely place-old fashioned in a good way- simple and retaining character. Our suite had everything we needed and Idilke and Frederico were available and helpful. The location is relativelay quiet and very handy. It was a perfect place to come back to at the end of the day.

Carol & I stayed at Qunita Recreo, during the 3rd week of April, 2006, and we were not disappointed. It was enchanting and we thoroughly enjoyed our casita. And Federico and Ildiko were the most delightful and endearing hosts. I'm sorry it took me so long to get ot this. Of course we love San Miguel and will be returning in the future.

I remember arriving. The taxi pulled up into a charming cobbled street, close to the centre of San Miguel and a few seconds later, Ildiko and Federico pulled up behind and jumped out of their car to greet me. They were both so warm and charming that I liked them instantly. Federico opened up the wooden doors of Quinta Recreo and I stepped into the gardens for the first time. Gorgeous! A profusion of lush greenery and a blaze of pink bougainvillea. The following morning in Casita Jasmin, I sat at my breakfast table and watched the egrets fly overhead with their huge slow wings, like pre-historic birds. And I remember thinking, 'This is a magical place.' I did a lot of writing at that breakfast table - three chapters of a novel in three weeks. And for me, that made it the perfect stay. |

| We enjoyed two weeks at Quinta Recreo in July 2006. After visiting San Miguel several times over the last few years, we now have found the perfect place to stay. Quinta Recreo is always quiet and peaceful, away from the noise but near restaurants, shops and galleries. We had our car but never used it...everything's within an easy walk. The Cervantes are wonderful people who helped us find a doctor when we needed it, and came quickly the evening I locked myself out. We can't wait to return. |

I enjoyed my stay at Quinta Recreo this summer! It was convienent to the Jardin and other places around San Miguel. I loved the gardens and patio! Thanks to Federico, I was able to eat at some of the best restaurants in San Miguel. I shared some of my stories with Federico and Ildiko. I am planning on returning back to San Miguel and staying at Quinta Recreo! |

We had a great time in our little cottage at Qiinta Recreo. It was clean, comfortable and it's conveniently located for walking into town. Ildiko could not have been more gracious or helpful - meeting her was one of the best things about our stay there.
We'll be back.
