We loved staying in the garden apartment because it was a great location for us to use as a homebase while we explored the sights. It was cozy and comfortable. We loved sitting on the patio and the sounds of the coquis at night. We felt like we had all the privacy we needed, while we also felt very secure because our hosts were helpful to our needs. We would love to come back and stay at the chalet as well. It was a great experience in Puerto Rico.

Our third stay with Mara and Lazaro and our second stay at the Garden Apartment was absolutely wonderful. It has become our home away from home when visiting PR.

Mara and Lazaro are gracious hosts and treated us like family. We are lucky to have found such a gem of a location!!! The garden apartment was perfect for us, we looked forward to mornings sitting outside drinking Puerto Rican coffee. The evenings were cool enough that we just slept with our windows open -- even in July!

Counting the days until our next visit!

Thanks!

We stayed at the Garden apartment for 7 nights and I must say that the property and it's hosts really exceeded our expectations. It's a welcome change from the usual touristic spots in San Juan, which not only tend to be crowded but also overpriced. Here you have a great value for your money as well as a serene, safe and beautiful location to call home for a while. The apartment is clean and well decorated and it has all the amenities you would need for an extended stay. Also, the location has controlled access and is relatively close to the #52 highway. Lazaro and Mara were also great. They went out of their way to accommodate us and to anticipate our needs without being intrusive or overbearing. It was a great experience and we would definitely stay here again if we had the chance. Thanks!!

I had the pleasure of staying at the Conuco Garden Apartment for a few days and it was a great experience. The property is located in a gated community in the middle of a beautifull forest. Mara and Lazaro are great hosts and they certainly cater to their guests.

Mara and Lázaro are kind, generous souls. It was a pleasure to stay in their garden apartment for a few days during my visit to Puerto Rico. The siren song of the coqui frogs filled the night air. It was great to be away from the crowd of San Juan, and yet the nearby stores had all of the conveniences one may want. Their home is in the central-east, and it was easy to get around to all of the day excursions of my whirlwind tour: the Yunque rainforest, the bioluminescent bay, the Camuy caves, Vieques island, Arecibo, Rincon, Guanica, Ponce, Humacao, etc. My stay was very comfortable. Paz y abrazos!

This was a memorable vacation and our stay at the chalet was truly marvelous! The home was perfect for our family - 2 adults, 2 teens, and 1 child). We stayed in El Conuco 8 nights toward the end of July, 2007. The home is centrally located on the island so that each morning we could travel in a different direction. I loved sleeping with the windows open. The coqui chirped most of the night constantly reminding me I had left home behind. Mara and Lazaro live just up the hill. They provided the watchcare our family needed for our first trip out of the states. They provided travel guidance, medical assistance, even a swimsuit when I accidentally left mine in a restroom. Mara and Lazaro are very gracious, accomodating folks... a blessing to our family, and an answer to my prayers. We will never forget our hosts and our vacation to lovely Puerto Rico.

I just returned from a week in the Canuco Garden Apartment and I loved it. The scenery was beautiful, the hosts very gracious and the ambiance relaxing. What more could one hope for? The apartment was very clean and everything from linens to silverware was provided.

Mara and Lázaro were wonderful hosts and were always available to answers questions or offer suggestions. It was a delightful stay that I hope to repeat in the future.

I remember when I was searching for our vacation place in Puerto Rico in August of 2006, when I came across the Conuco Chalet. I could not believe that amount of amenities, and hospitality that was offered to us when I contact Mara for price and reservation. I must say that we spent almost 3 weeks in the Chalet and I could not say enough about Mara & Lazaro. It felt that they where part of us. The abundance in hospitality, the caring, carisma and atmosphere we received was unforgettable. Mara & Lazaro made sure that you had everything and anything during your stay. We grew so close to them that it sure was heartful to leave. Thanks Mara & Lazaro May God Keep Blessing You with this beautisul Osea. Love Margie

Title: A steal for the price and fantastic location
We stayed in three places in Puerto Rico one much more expensive than
this one but this was the best good value for the price. For $60 a night
at the garden apartment, we got a HOME with a kitchen (with microwave
and fridge), living area(with Dish netwrok TV with many channels), bath
(with shower only) and a bedroom with a whole lot of decor. The place
was clean and pleasing to the eye and most importantly had amazing
views, perched up in the mountains.
It also felt like we were staying with friends or family as Mara and
Yazarro were very friendly and offered us every kind of help we needed. I
needed to use a computer with internet and no problem Mara led us ot
her place and let me even print out the stuff I needed. We mentioned we
were going to the caves and they gave us nice books to read about it.
Mara is an artist and it was fun to see all her works. Her deck was also
available for us to use whenever we needed.
Also Mara picks you up from the main road saving u the hassle of
searching for it for the first time. The property is in a secure community
with gates - so is very safe.
All in all, no 5 star hotel cud beat the experience we had, especially
considering that my friends in SHeraton, Caguas complained that water
suddenly stopped coming while the person was in the shower.
They also have a hillside chalet for bigger groups.

Last Christmas my fiancée Luz Mery, our daughter Laura and I enjoyed a week at the Garden Apartment, and about two weeks at the Conuco Chalet. Our stay was an unforgettable one, thanks to the peaceful and exuberant tropical beauty of this wonderful place. Mara and Lázaro are the most caring and courteous hosts, you will find that they will make their best to make you feel comfortable. There are no words to express our gratitude for everything they did to help us with our beloved Laura, her disability was not a problem to enjoy our first vacation together and an unforgettable Christmas. Certainly the best place to rest and breathe clean air in a hidden tropical paradise. Thanks!

In May of 2006, my mother and I had a very pleasant stay at El Conuco. We had everything that made for a perfect vacation; a beautiful landscape and natural surroundings, a clean and comfortable living area and attentive hosts. We look forward to our next stay at El Conuco.

Our family was fortunate to stay a week in the chalet during March, 2006. It was everything the website describes and more. The central location is ideal for travel throughout Puerto Rico. While there we visited Fajardo's Phosphorescent Bay, Areciebo, and San Juan. While in a rural setting it is very convienent to major roads traveling both north/south and east/west over the island. The interior of the home is spacious and comfortable. The furnishings were more than adequate and the beds comfortable. It is clean and well stocked with linens and kitchen items. The location in the mountains was refreshing - we never turned on the air conditioning! There is nothing like falling asleep at night to the sound of the coquis. The best asset the house presents are the hosts - Mara and Lazzaro. You couldn't ask for a kinder or more helpful pair to help you during your stay in Puerto Rico. Our children will remember playing chess on the patio with Lazzaro long after many of their memories of PR fade. If we ever return, we look forward to visiting the Chalet again.

Staying at El Conuco was the best experience we’ve ever had. Mara and Lazaro even had a box of pastry due to our late arrival how delicious. The chalet is defiantly a place to stay to get away from the family. The view is incredible and the drive to the chalet was an adventurous drive. Hector and I really enjoyed the stay at the Conuco.

We were absolutely delighted with El Conuco. Situated in lush hills above the center of Caguas, it was readily accessible on day trips to the many places we visited throughout the island, from Old San Juan to Ponce to Arecibo. Still, it is removed enough from the "touristy" strip to allow us to sleep deeply to the wonderful singining of the coquis. The house is most spacious and had every amenity we could ask for, from washing machine to hair dryer. Mara and Lazaro were wonderfully cordial hosts, and most patient with our unexpectedly late arrival. They have also thoughtfully provided much literature on sights throughout the island, which include telephone numbers and hours of operation. We recommend the house to anyone seeking the local beauty of Puerto Rico and the comforts of home.

Our family "guested" at the chalet for 10 days over Chistmas 2003. We chose the chalet because we wanted to be near my wifes family in Caguas. Our stay exceeded our expectations. We were 15 minutes away and only 12 minutes to the 52 freeway the main access between Ponce and San Juan. The chalet was an excellent base for local vistits and for visiting Old San Juan. Using the "masion gastromonique" guide in "QUE PASA" we were within 20 minutes of 3 nice local restaurants for dinner.
The pictures on the site do not do the chalet justice. It was wonderful to have plenty of room, and enjoy the sun deck for breakfast in the morning and having the coquis sing you to sleep at night. We were even able to host a "Christmas Brunch" for 12 for the family and they were amazed at the beauty of the location. Our hosts Lazaro and Mara are wonderful. We look forward to returning.

Virgen and I, her sister and niece, spent 4 days at the Chalet during December 2003. We were visiting Puerto Rico to celebrate Virgen's brother's 60th Birthday. Mara and Lazarro, the owners of the chalet, are two of the nicest people we have ever met. They did everything and anything to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. They even stocked the refridgerator with some food and drinks so that we would have something to eat due to our later arrival. You won't find that at a hotel. The chalet had everything anyone would need. Staying there was like being at home, but with warmer weather instead of snow. The chalet was very clean and cozy. The Chalet had everything we needed. This place is definitely on the top of our list. We enjoyed our stay. You should enjoy your's to.

We had the pleasure of staying in the chalet over mothers day and would like everyone interested that the property is top shelf. And so are Mara and Lazaro. Including Lazaros sunburn Medicine for my son. My sons said they haven't slept that comfortably ever while on vacation. Please accept our thanks for making our stay one that will not be forgotten. You both are special people and it is a pleasure knowing you. I will definitely be back in the future only this time with my husband... He can hardly wait!!! I must add that the pictures do not do the chalet justice and anything one needed was supplied .CLEAN,CLEAN,CLEAN.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Chalet. The house itself had everything that we could possibly need. The location was a perfect "home base" for our day trips to Old San Juan, El Yunque, Luquillo, Humacao, and the south shore. Mara and Lázaro were perfect hosts and did everything (and then some!!) to make our trip the best that it could be. We would definitely put this cottage on the top of our list when we return to PR.

My family and I enjoyed our 3 week stay in the chalet in December. It was in great condition. Actually, it is more beautiful and cozy when seeing it in person. I loved the mountain view. The fresh air that flowed thru the chalet gave such a relaxing taste to it.Bedrooms are just the right size and comfortable. We had clean sheets, blow dryer,an iron, pots, plates,etc.. you name it the chalet had it. I am thankful for the 2 beautiful host Mara & Lazaro. Mara made me feel comfortable even before I made the reservations. And if you bring along your children, they would definitely love Lazaro. The Chalet will definitely be my vacation home when I do visit PR again. And don't forget to see Mara's Art work it is beautiful. Mara & Lazaro Thank You again!

My stay at the chalet in a week in Aug. 2002 was really one of the most superb vacation getaway spots I’ve ever had the pleasure to endure. The hosts, Mara and Lasaro, were cooperative and obliging to my families and my needs. Its modern and tidy rooms made our stay a most relaxing and gratifying one. I would most definitely recommend this villa to anyone who is looking for an affordable place and accessible to the metropolitan/tourist area as well as the countryside.
